Joey Miles © vs. Caleb Spires
6,000 Word Limit

Joey Miles' hot year is continuing strong after his first successful defense of the World Television Championship against Razor Xtreme; a defense that didn't come easy. With his match against Sean Young set and signed for at XWA On a Pole - a match we found out will be Last Man Standing - Joey can now focus on his second defense. Enter Caleb Spires. Caleb is quickly proving his reputation very correct in the XWA, as he starts off on a two-match winning streak. Two matches may not sound like much, but when one of them is against the current Supreme Champion of XWA, that makes it just a little more impressive. 'The Elite One' has quickly earned a title opportunity and he gets it tonight, going up against a man he's never faced before, but who has called his matches in the past.

Deadline for matches is May 25th, 2020 at 11:59 Pacific Standard Time.
Match threads will be closed at that time, unless an extension has been granted, and results will be posted on May 28th, 2020.

The metal strikes three times, and the main event of the evening is underway. Two former coworkers who have never competed against one another, finding themselves in quite a role reversal from the last time they were in each other’s presence; that being Joey Miles, who was once commentating for Spires as he competed for championships, now holding a championship Caleb would love nothing more than to obtain. The two wrestlers circle one another, light on their feet and smirking. The circles get smaller and smaller until they reach a double collar-and-wrist tie-up. Almost immediately after initiating contact, Spires catches Miles by surprise with an Irish whip. Though instead of sending him flying to the ropes, Caleb keeps Joey’s wrist in his grasps and jerks up on a hammerlock, attempting to wear him down early. ‘The Elite One’ keeps forward pressure on Joey, who grunts in discomfort, as he forces Joey down to a knee. After keeping him locked in for about ten seconds, Caleb lets him go and steps back to create separation. Joey, weary that he’s just being led back up so easily, slowly stands as he rotates to face his adversary. He attempts to tie-up again, but this time finds himself effortlessly hip tossed by Spires who once again backs up to allow his opponent a clean stand-up.

Mark Sanction: “Spires is getting an early upper hand on Miles, kind of like he is toying with him a bit.”

Tempest: “Well, he better not get too confident. He remembers Joey as a commentator; but Joey has learned much about the in-ring portion of the business since the last time they were coworkers.”

Miles looks mildly peeved, whereas Caleb is clearly confident, if not somewhat disrespecting his opponent. The champion comes in hot at his challenger, but finds himself chest-planting courtesy of a drop toe hold. Before Joey can even think, Spires attempts to trap Miles’ arm and lock in his finishing crossface early as the crowd pops for him. ‘180’ does not allow Spires to lock in his submission, as he scoots away with all his might to break contact early, and selects the nearest corner to pull himself back up to his feet. ‘The Elite One’ rushes his adversary, but gets a chest full of turnbuckle after Joey ducks. Spires turns around and is delivered a thunderous knife-edge chop that has him stumble back into the corner. Miles takes advantage by delivering a second chop to the chest, even louder than the first. Caleb winces in pain as he leans back again, just for Joey to strike him with a third chop, the hardest of all. Miles backs up, with a slight grin forming, as he awaits Spires to stumble out of the corner. With his chest getting redder by the second, Caleb pushes himself out of the corner, and right into an arm drag that completely catches him off guard. Joey is building his confidence as he pops right back up to his feet, a second or two quicker than a disoriented Caleb. The second ‘The Elite One’ does reach his feet, he is yet again swept off them, a dropkick the culprit this time.

Tempest: “As I was saying… Joey knows the technical side of wrestling and knows how to capitalize quickly. Perhaps a bit more respect for the TV Champion should have been in order.”

Mark Sanction: “You’re right; Joey as a competitor is nothing to sneeze at. But can you blame Spires, who has had to listen to this guy talk for as long as he has, to want to come out and embarrass him?”

Spires needs to take a second to gather himself, as Joey stands comfortably above him, his slight-grin turned into a full-on devilish smile. Momentum is starting to sway in his favor, which means so is his confidence. ”This is it? This is the fight I get out of the GREAT Caleb Spires? Pathetic!” a bent-over Joey screams at his opponent who is getting back to his feet. Before he is all the way upright, Miles grabs Caleb by the wrist and Irish whips him to the nearest ropes. ‘The Elite One’ rebounds and hopes to regain steam by beheading Joey with a clothesline. The TV Champion ducks the clothesline attempt, and when Spires turns back to face Joey, he is met with a stiff slap to the face. The crowd gasps as Caleb’s head snaps to the side. Joey’s face shows a roller coaster of emotion in about three seconds; First confidence, followed by momentary anger, topped off with a mixture of shock and regret. Spires turns his head back to Joey, who slowly takes a step back. Caleb steps toward him as well, and Miles decides he may have flown too close to the sun for a second, as he drops down to the mat and rolls out of the ring to avoid Spires’ red-hot wrath. He can’t evade his challenger for long, as Caleb gets out of the ring as well to hunt down his prey. Miles creates separation, power-walking away and inaudibly mouthing something at Spires, likely a form of peace treaty. ‘The Elite One’ does not comply as he starts to chase after Miles, who takes off running around the ring for about 5 seconds before sliding back in. Caleb slides back in after him, but as he comes back to his feet, gets a boot right to his gut. This causes Caleb to double over, right in a perfect position for Miles to drill him with a DDT. After spiking Spires right on his cranium, Miles keeps Caleb’s head locked tight, and torques his neck in a guillotine choke.

Tempest: “It appears that Miles had a strategy coming into this one that he is executing to perfection. He’s striking quick and forcing Spires into making mistakes.”

Mark Sanction: “Granted, the match is still young. Both of these guys have technical styles and should be exchanging momentum for the entirety of the contest.”

The fans start to raise their volume, encouraging Caleb to find the strength to break out of the choke-hold. It is certainly a challenge for ‘The Elite One’ who has knocked silly a mere second before the choke was locked in. Joey grits his teeth and leans back to tighten his grip around Caleb’s neck. Spires’ energy is draining by the second, so he digs deep to break the hold quickly. Spires shifts his position to his hands and knees and bear-hugs Joey who is still cranking on his neck. The challenger uses every bit of leg and back strength he has in him to rise up to a vertical position. Caleb still has the body-lock on Joey who is still attempting to choke him out. ‘The Elite One’ finally breaks the hold and simultaneously attempts the first pin of the match as he counters the guillotine into a northern lights suplex known as Caution.

2.

‘180’ doesn’t concede so easily, arching his back as he twists his body to break the hold. Both men slowly rise to their feet, taking a few seconds to fully recover before lunging right back into another collar-and-wrist tie. Miles, with a slight upper-body strength advantage, reminds Caleb of this by delivering a jaw-breaking European uppercut to his challenger. Spires’ head snaps back as he clutches his jaw. Joey grins and nods, sizing Caleb up for a clothesline. This time it is Spires who ducks under the strike, and wastes no locking up a belly-to-back suplex. The TV Champion tries to keep his weight on the ground, and throws a couple elbows back to the side of Caleb’s head to loosen the grip. All that does is delay his launch time by about three seconds before Spires officially takes him over. The fans applaud the fluidity of ‘The Elite One’s’ wrestling as he immediately scrambles onto Joey to attempt the fall.

1…

Again, Joey kicks out with time to spare to remind Spires that he has to work for this win. Caleb rolls over and gets into a crouched stance, ready to get right back on the attack. Miles gets back up to a standing position, and Spires leaps onto his back in no time, scissoring his legs around Joey’s waist, and locking in a rear-naked choke as a little bit of payback for the TV champion.

Mark Sanction: “I’m going to guess Caleb didn’t love being put in that guillotine, giving Joey a taste of his own medicine with a choke of his own.”

Tempest: “You mean to tell me that Caleb didn’t like being choked halfway unconscious? I never would have guessed.”

Immediately, Miles thrashes his body around to buck cowboy Caleb off of him, but ‘The Elite One’ holds on strong and gets a lock around Miles’ throat. Joey claws at Caleb’s forearms to separate his grip, but Spires adjusts to every movement to keep his choke locked in. ‘180’ is getting weaker by the second, lowering down to a single knee and sputtering for the little bit of air he can suck through his windpipe. In the center of the ring with Caleb’s lock tightening, Joey is losing energy and consciousness quickly. As a last-ditch effort Joey falls straight backward as hard as he can, with Caleb still leeched you his back. This means that Caleb is driven straight to his back, with the wind knocked out of him, and Joey lying on top of him for the cover.

1…
2..

Spires kicks out, but has to relinquish his choke in order to do so. As soon as he releases his grip, Joey scrambles away, rolling to the nearest corner in order to get back to his feet. Of course, Caleb has already recovered by the time Joey is back up to his feet. This gives Spires an opportunity to get a running start and clock Miles in the chips with a corner-aided knee strike. The crowd applauds at the satisfying sound of Joey’s jaw breaking into about 12 pieces, while the look in Joey’s eyes hint that he didn’t enjoy it so much. An amped-up Spires hops backward and creates about 10 feet of space between himself and a slumped Joey. He does this so he can garner enough momentum for a second knee right to the face of the champion. Joey’s knees are buckling, but luckily he has the turnbuckles to keep him supported as Caleb backs up yet again. The determined challenger runs to Joey again, attempting to deliver a third knee. Possibly on instinct alone, Miles drops underneath Caleb’s body with not a second to spare. ‘The Elite One’ has no time to stop his momentum, as he goes tumbling over the top rope, awkwardly hitting the ring apron before collapsing to the outside area.

Mark Sanction: “And Caleb takes flight! The take-off wasn’t too bad, but I’m going to guess he didn’t graduate pilot school, because that landing could have been a bit nicer.”

Tempest: “Spires needs to slow down and get out of his head. Be it the attack by Razor earlier or his history with Joey, Caleb is wrestling recklessly right now and it is going to cost him greatly if he doesn’t make proper adjustments.”

As referee Tommy Tickles begins his count-out Caleb rolls around outside the ring, eyes shut and clenching his teeth as he grabs at his back that just took a couple brutal bumps on his free-fall. Joey bends over in the ring, trying to shake the cobwebs out of his head before turning his attention back over to Spires. Miles gazes over the ropes and sees Caleb is in clear pain, which puts a smirk on his face. ‘4!’ screams Tickles, right before Joey rolls out of the ring to start the count over. ‘180’ circles around his prey, laying a stomp into various parts of Caleb’s back every time he tries standing up. Miles snaps his head up and looks out into the jeering crowd with a massive grin on his face. ”Oh my God! Can you fuckin’ believe it?” hollers Joey, as he turns his attention deadlocked onto his adversary. ”Joey is beating the absolute shit out of Spires!” Miles laughs heartily, trolling Spires with a nice throwback of calling his matches. The TV champion drops down to put Caleb in a front headlock that makes it easier to yank the challenger upright. Joey wraps up a body-lock and drives Spires backward into the ring apron, adding further pain to his back. ‘The Elite One’ yelps in pain as he arches his back and leans against the apron to keep upright. Joey gives him a couple forearm strikes to the back to further weaken Caleb before grasping him around the waist. Miles prepares to German suplex Spires, but not before embarrassing him first by squeezing his teats like he’s a County Fair prize-winning cow. Caleb attempts to fight off what’s coming, but falls victim of a Boobplex right into the crowd barrier for a much stronger effect, garnering a sympathetic “ooooooooh… from a majority of the audience.

Tempest: “Joey is finding his way back into the driver’s seat here, countering just about everything Caleb has thrown at him so far.”

Mark Sanction: “A German suplex is bad enough. Add in a steel barrier and some molestation, and I’d say Caleb probably isn’t having the time of his life.”

”5!” is the current count, as Caleb slumps up against the crowd barrier with no real movement of his own. ”6!” Miles leaps up triumphantly, throwing his arms out to his side and smiling wide. He looks back at the ring and back at Spires. ”7!” Joey has a decision to make; get back in the ring and hope to win by count out, or assist Mr. Spires back into the ring by getting a firm grasp on his head and thrashing him about. ”8!” The latter it is. Joey quickly dives in at his adversary and puts his plan into motion, not-so-gingerly tossing Caleb back into the ring. ”9!” The defending champ slides in the ring himself, breaking the count and continuing the match. Spires appears to be incapacitated for the time being, so Joey turns his attention to the nearest corner. He starts to scale the top rope with his back to his floored opponent. Miles balances himself on the top rope and glances over his shoulder to make sure Caleb is still completely down. He is, so ‘180’ does a beautiful backflip off the top rope, crashing down on the midsection and ribs of Caleb courtesy of a moonsault. The crowd makes some noise, giving the villain credit where due, as Joey takes a very deep breath to get his wind back before scurrying on top of Spires, lifting his leg for the cover.

1…
2..

‘The Elite One’ forcefully kicks out, sending Joey a clear message that he’ll have to try harder if he wants to put him away. Miles’ expression is that of annoyance, but he keeps his composure as he crouches behind Caleb, giving his challenger the opportunity to stand on his own. With his opponent worn down from the German suplex, Miles has to take matters in his own hands and hoist Spires back up. While in the process of helping his challenger back up to his feet, Joey drapes Spires’ arm over his neck in a suplex position. Before lifting Caleb into the air, Miles decides to embarrass him once again, drawing his arm back and smacking Caleb in the booty as hard as he can three times, heartily laughing as he does so.

Mark Sanction: “Say what you will about Joey’s personality, but at least the man finds a way to have fun while he’s in competition.”

Tempest: “He can afford to dick around right now, but he shouldn’t count on that being the trend for the rest of the match. We’ve already seen Caleb suffer the consequences of over-confidence, and Joey certainly isn’t immune to it.”

The loud clapping sound of palm on ass for the third time echoes through the arena, and Joey decides that three smacks were enough, and hooks Caleb’s leg with his free arm. Miles lifts his adversary up in a perfectplex. ‘180’ shows off his strength a bit by suspending Caleb in the air for a few seconds before falling back, nailing the move perfectly and already in a fall position.

1…
2…

‘The Elite One’ crosses his legs and kicks upward as strongly as he can to break-up the pin attempt. Joey rises to his knees quickly, visibly frustrated that Spires continues to fight through everything. ”Fuck!” says Miles, not too loudly, but enough for the viewers to pick up on. He gets back up and circles Caleb like a hawk. Caleb recognizes this and rolls to the side so that he can grab the bottom rope and use that as leverage. Before he can even latch onto the second rope, Joey is hot on the attack, laying a stomp into the challenger’s back. Spires manages to keep his grip on the rope, but Miles isn’t satisfied with one boot as he grabs the top rope with both hands and repeatedly stomps Caleb in the back. ”1! 2! 3!” bellows Tickles, but Joey doesn’t budge. ”4!” Tickles says sternly, and Miles backs off while throwing his arms in the air in total innocence. Tommy continues to lecture ‘180’ who looks right past him and at his opponent. Caleb’s back aches like hell, but he’s determined to get back into action and continues to use the ropes to eventually make it back to his feet. Of course, he is leaning back against the top rope, as he would topple over otherwise. The TV Champion advances quickly toward Spires but is caught off-guard, as well as as in the mouth, by a big boot. Miles whips straight back and falls down straight on his rear as he clutches his face.

Tempest: “A much needed counter for Caleb here. Joey has wrestled an intelligent match to this point and has been wearing him down the last few minutes, any offense for Spires is much needed.”

Mark Sanction: “Then he better get back on the attack. With the way Joey has been wearing him down, Caleb needs to strike while the iron is still hot and keep him grounded.”

As the audience applauds their favored wrestler finally getting something going his way, Spires tries to stay on his feet without assistance from the ropes. It is a struggle, and he leans back into the top rope to stabilize his balance and tries to straighten his back out. Joey removes his hand from his face and sees some blood smeared in the center on his palm from a cut lip. This fills him with instant rage, as he slams his fist against the mat and yells ”You son of a bitch!” Miles scrambles back up to his feet, and Spires reaches into his bag of tricks by leaping into the air and damn-near beheading Joey with a perfectly-timed leg lariat. The crowd pops louder for Spires getting into his groove, though he is unable to immediately make the cover. His back is still giving him some issues, but he tries not to add any pressure on it as he scoots over to Joey to attempt a cover.

1…
2..

Miles won’t give up his title so easily. He kicks out, sending Caleb toppling off of him as Joey grabs back at his face again. ‘180’ is a bit rattled after a second shot to the face and isn’t as quick to get up again. Luckily, Spires isn’t bouncing back up either. They both take their time in getting back up, Caleb one slight step ahead. As he nears Joey to initiate a grapple, Joey gives him a lovely surprise in form of a spinning back fist to the temple that has the Spires drop to a knee, too noodle-legged to stand. The defending champion once again wipes some blood from his lip, scowls, and shakes his head in anger. He channels this by pie-facing Spires with his bloody hand, wiping it all over his cheek.

Mark Sanction: “Jesus, Joey! That’s pretty damn gross, man. And more than likely illegal.”

Tempest: “Calm down, Mark. For the sake of the argument, we’ll assume Joey doesn’t have hepatitis. Chlamydia, probably, but not hepatitis.”

‘The Elite One’ doesn’t take kindly to this, immediately finding the adrenaline to pounce up to his feet at Joey. This is just what Miles was wanting, as he quickly picks Spires up in a scoop slam but sits out on the landing to deliver a Michinoku Driver II to Spires to once again sway the match back in his favor. Caleb slumps off to the side as Miles grabs his shoulder, shoves it down, and hooks his leg.

1…
2…

Continue to dig deep, Spires kicks out with hardly any time to spare. Miles rolls off to him and shows a look not of anger, but more of nagging frustration that nothing has put his challenger down for the count. ‘180’ grabs the ropes to aid his journey back to an upright position. His excursion comes to an end, and he circles around Spires who is only on all fours at this point. Miles continues to disrespect ‘The Elite One’ as Joey spits some of his blood at Caleb’s back. Like an octopus ready to strangle its victim, it is clear the TV champion has evil intentions. Joey is tired of waiting for Spires to get back up, so he picks Spires up by the wrist and head, and Irish whips him across the ring. As Caleb rebounds, Joey flies at him in a headscissor, attempting to lock Caleb’s arm into his finishing Strappado. The challenger has been apparently doing his research on Miles and the moment Miles reaches for his arm, Spires starts to drag his feet to the ropes the best that he can, while simultaneously trying to fight off an angry man trying to yank his arm out of its socket. Caleb uses all the strength he can muster to keep inching to the ropes while keeping his arm out of sinister Joey’s clutches. Eventually, Spires does make it to the ropes and gets himself a break in the form of a 5-count rather than in his shoulder. ”1! 2! 3!” This time, Joey does the good samaritan thing by saving Tickles the trouble of saying 4 and relinquishes the hold, hopping off of Caleb’s back. ‘The Elite One’ gives himself a couple seconds to recover while Joey bounces around behind him, waiting to pounce again. Spires turns around and sees a superkick coming his way. He gets out of dodge in the nick of time, ducking under Joey’s leg. Miles puts his leg back on the mat and turns to face Caleb in one swift motion, but finds himself the victim of a step-up enzuigiri known as Encore. Another blow to Joey’s head has him stumble around for a couple seconds before ultimately face-planting.

Tempest: “Caleb finds a way to rattle Joey’s brains yet again, with a beautiful and perfectly-timed kick to the skull. But yet again, Caleb may be too disoriented to capitalize.”

Mark Sanction: “Much as we expected, this has been a match of runs without any overwhelming favorite. It could be anybody’s for the taking down the home stretch.”

Both competitors lie on the mat, Joey praying he doesn’t have a concussion and Spires with the back pain of a 64 year old war veteran. Spires once again tries to rub a kink out of his back, and he crawls over toward the nearest corner. Miles blinks a few times to confirm consciousness, but he still looks pretty woozy as he clutches onto the middle rope. At this point it is no race to their feet, and both men take their sweet time to get back up. They do at roughly the same time, and Spires exits his corner to limp/rush ‘180’ who is leaning against the ropes for support. The TV champion cunningly lowers his head as ‘The Elite One’ comes near, and back-body drops him over the top rope as he stumbles forward. The camera pans in on Joey, still stumbling and fuzzy in the head, smiling in great pleasure that he sent Spires tumbling over. Except for the part where Caleb grabbed the top rope and landed on the apron instead of the outside. Miles nods in admiration as he turns to see a crippled Caleb. Spires, definitely still in pain, takes a deep breath as he firmly grasps the top rope and attempts to redeem his last-match failure. Right as the champion turns around, Caleb puts his plan into motion. He vaults himself to the top rope, almost collapses but keeps his balance, and slings forward, striking a springboard crossbody that floors Joey. The fans are getting as loud as they’ve been all match. They can feel rising tension that is getting ready to boil over.

Mark Sanction: “Spires takes what he visibly considered a risk, and it paid off. His adrenaline is pumping and I’m interested to see where it takes him.”

With the cheers of 1,470 strong(30 damn haters), Spires seems to get a jolt of energy. He straightens his back out, rising to his feet while still wincing in pain. Caleb looks down at Miles, who is not facing Spires as he starts coming back up. ‘The Elite One’ cocks his right leg and bounces it as he snarls at the defending champion, hoping to turn that into ‘former’ champion. Miles gets to his feet and slowly rotates to face Spires, still fumbling a bit. Caleb lunges forward and it’s Lights Out for Joey in the form of a superkick right to the face.

Mark Sanction: “Superkick! Superkick from Spires! This may be it, we may have a new champion!”

Tempest: “Just imagine all the brain cells that Joey had 20 minutes ago. And now, visualize a quarter of them outright vanishing. Congratulations, you’re watching the same match as me.”

Miles drops to his knees before his entire body falls to the mat like a ton of bricks. A gimpy Spires drops to his knees along with the delivered kick but has the strength to inch over to Joey, hook the leg, and hopefully add a new toy to his collection.

1…
2…

Mark Sanction: “No! Joey kicks out! I don’t know how he did it, but Miles is going to live to see more action.”

The challenger is exasperated, having thought he had the match in the bag. He sighs as he rolls off of Joey and crawls to a six-foot distance. Spires gets back up and looks down at Miles who is not moving at all after his kick out. Joey is flat on his back, eyes glued shut, and mouth open with a trickle of drool on the side. Caleb stumbles toward Joey and reaches down to pull him up, only to find himself hooked in an inside cradle and put into his back in a small package.

1…
2…

Tempest: “Spires kicks out with just a gasp to spare! Miles came so close to pulling one over and walking out with his title.”

For a slight second, the crowd is as silent as it has been all match, followed by claps for Caleb kicking out. Spires rolls back onto his knees, wide-eyed after almost having his title championship dreams ripped away. Miles barely has motor skills but is slowly trying to fight through the discomfort and retain his title. He begins to stir, crawling over to Caleb as the two come to a brief compromise to use the other as a leaning post. Both make it to their feet, and this time it is Joey who strikes quickly with a roundhouse kick that takes Spires right from his feet and to the mat. Miles falls as well but catches himself on all fours. He rattles his head a little bit to try and clear the haze. As he slowly rises back up, sweaty, panting, cut lip, he looks over at Spires and stares for a brief couple seconds before chuckling. He shakes his head and works his way toward his fallen opponent. ‘180’ rises his foot in the air and lays a stomp to Caleb’s back to remind him of what he’s put him through tonight. ”This is it, folks! Joey is about to put away Spires for good!” he recites, smirking in ‘The Elite One’s’ direction the whole time. After laying another stiff boot to the back, Miles drops down and grabs Caleb so that he can hoist him back up. Joey gets him up, and puts his opponent in position to lift him in a reverse fireman carry. ‘180’ intends to lay a knee to the back of Caleb’s skull, and luckily the challenger is lucid enough to realize this. Before Joey can drop him, Spires tries wiggling with all his might to which Joey holds strong and doesn’t drop him. This means Caleb has to resort to elbows to the side of the head, giving him the wiggle room to slide down Miles’ back and land on the mat. ‘180’ pulls one to face Spires and is met with a hard slap to the face, shades of early on in the match.

Mark Sanction: “Ohhhh boy. Joey doesn’t look too happy, but I think it’s safe to say he brought that upon himself.”

Tempest: “You reap what you sow.”

Joey’s eyes aren’t as wide open as they can get and he is starting to see red. He rushes Spires in an attempt to spear/tackle him, but Caleb side-steps the attempt and helps Miles use his momentum to send him noggin first into the ring post. Immediately, Joey drops to his knees and slumps motionless across the middle ropes.

Tempest: “Aaaaand there it is. Joey got overzealous for one second and could have cost himself the match in doing so. He looks out cold.”

’The Elite One’ leans against the ropes while sucking in air. The match has taken quite the toll on him, and it needs to come to an end soon. Miles slips off from the middle rope and very, very slowly rolls out of the corner, giving Caleb the chance to occupy said corner. Perhaps in over his head, Caleb grasps the top rope with both hands and pushes himself up to a seated position on the top turnbuckle. He is sore, exhausted, dehydrated, but determined. Spires takes a gander at ringside where Joey’s belt sits. Championship gold; a sight familiar to Spires but also one he hasn’t experienced in roughly 5 years. He gets lost in a momentary trance looking at the belt but snaps back into it and redirects his attention to ‘180.’ Joey is struggling, trying with all his might to improve from his hands and knees, but he keeps slipping back down. Once it finally looks like he is finally getting the hang of it, Caleb decides to cut him off. ‘The Elite One’ springs from the second rope, sticks his knee out, plants it in the back of Joey’s bent-over head, and drives his poor, tortured face into the canvas, courtesy of a Facial.

Mark Sanction: “Caleb just struck Joey with the Facial! This is the same move that put away our Supreme Champion, Jace Albright last week.”

Tempest: “I think we’re about to see a repeat. The added velocity from the springboard, topped off with all the head trauma Joey has endured tonight, leads me to believe Joey’s night, and championship reign, are coming to a close.”

The audience roars for ‘The Elite One’ who sits on the mat to recuperate. Joey lies on the mat completely motionless after having his face driven into the mat at full force. Caleb scoots over, knowing full well that Miles isn’t kicking out, but his heart still pumping out of his chest. Spires grabs one of Joey’s legs, hoists it in the air, and prays that in three seconds he’ll remember what it’s like to be a champion.

3!

Mark Sanction: “He did it! Caleb Spires has taken the TV championship from Joey Miles.”

The metal bell strikes three times to signal match completion, as Hana takes over from here.

Hana Ramirez: “Here is your winner and NEW XWA TV Champion…. Caaaaleb Spiiiiires!”

”Fake It” by Seether comes over the speakers and the moment is officially real for Caleb who has a large, genuine smile on his face as he hears an entirely new fan base applauding his first championship win in their company, welcoming him with open arms the same way he remembers when he was just starting out.

Tempest: “Three matches, three wins, and a championship already. You can see how much this means to Caleb who is still getting back into the swing of things after a five year hiatus. Well, soak it in Caleb. You’ve earned it.”

The new XWA TV champion manages to pull himself up to his feet as he is handed his new strap. He takes a long look at it, speechless, but in complete euphoria. Joey Miles has since vanished after rolling out of the ring. ‘The Elite One’ hops up to the second rope and lifts his gold high in the air, soaking in the roaring audience, who is for some reason changing their tone, as if they are trying to warn Caleb. But he doesn’t get the message in time. What he gets instead, is a hard steel chair shot straight to his back. The camera pans to reveal, of course, Razor Xtreme.

Mark Sanction: “Oh, come on! You’ve got to be kidding me! I know we should have expected this, but it’s still just so low.”

Tempest: “I guess it wasn’t enough to drill Caleb with a low blow earlier. Turns out Razor has some more issues he would like to clear the air on.”

Spires collapses from the second rope following the chair shot. The audience is now in full-blown jeer mode, directing their cries of hatred toward Razor Xtreme, a hobby of many wrestling fans for over a decade now. Razor is very used to this reaction, and he chooses not to fuel it. Caleb is the real enemy here. Spires lies on the mat, a broken heap, as Razor lifts his chair above his head and brings it down on Caleb’s back again. And again. And a fourth time. And a fifth. And a sixth. It gets to the point where Caleb’s back does not even have spasms anymore. He’s entirely lifeless.

Mark Sanction: “I’m not sure what point Razor is trying to make here. It takes a real coward to jump someone from behind right after they were in a grueling fight.”

Razor tosses the chair to the side and stands tall over Caleb. Not gloating, not even a look of anger, just a stare that drills a hole through the new XWA TV champion. He bends over to pick up all the deadweight that Spires currently has to offer him, and props him up in the corner, draping Spires’ arms over the top rope so he can remain standing. Razor picks up the new addition to Caleb’s collection and takes a nice, long look at it before charging ‘The Elite One’ and cracking him over the head, opening a fresh wound right between his eyes. Even the ropes can’t save Caleb from crashing right back down without any attempt at catching himself.

Tempest: “What a way to celebrate a new championship. Win and immediately endure more pain than you just went through for a half hour.”

”Razor sucks! Razor sucks!” Breaks out amongst the crowd. Tell us something we don’t know. As Caleb lie there, seemingly unconscious, Razor returns his title by dropping it on his chest. He then leans over the top rope to request a microphone, which a ringside assistance quickly scurries to get to him. Razor turns back to look at Caleb, holding the microphone right up to his mouth, but not yet saying anything. The crowd continues giving Razor a piece of their minds, but he waits for them to die down. Eventually they do, and ‘The Queen of Kings’ finally opens his mouth.

Razor Xtreme: “By all means, Caleb, make yourself at home. Get comfortable down there, because I’ve got a few things I’d like to say.”

He pauses for a moment, looks at the mat, and then back up at the camera.

Razor Xtreme: “Caleb Spires. You are everything that is wrong with the wrestling industry. A true cancer to this business. From the moment I started working with you, you always rubbed me the wrong way. For those of you who don’t know, I have known and competed with Mr. Spires for over a decade. But there was always a difference. He was always given the world championships.”

Another pause, as Razor brings the microphone away from his face and shakes his head in disappointment.

Razor Xtreme: “I proved myself. Week in and week out, I proved that I was ready for the moment. But management for some reason didn’t see eye to eye with me on that one. And why would they? They had their golden boy, Caleb Spires. He didn’t need to have more talent than me, all he needed was the ‘it’ factor that made my former bosses think it was okay to mercilessly shove down our throats on and off for 7 years. It wasn’t even until that son of a bitch “retired” that I finally got my shot, and I ran with it!”

’The Queen of Kings’ starts working himself up, and he has to take a deep breath to cool his nerves and get through the rest of this.

Razor Xtreme: “But for some reason, everybody else doesn’t get it. They look at Caleb Spires and they see some kind of icon. An unstoppable force. I don’t see that. I see a little weasel who had no business coming back to the ring.”

He scoffs at Caleb, who has still not moved an inch after tasting his new belt.

Razor Xtreme: “I don’t know who you think you are, giving yourself the control to call your own shots and issue an open invitation to face you at a Supershow, but if management is going to allow it, then I will take you up on that. If you want a match at XWA On A Pole so bad, I’ll give you that match. And it’s going to be in a Street Fight.”

The audience, while not supportive of Razor, hollers in approval for a blockbuster supershow match. Razor bends down on one knee and gets merely a few inches from Caleb’s head, drilling a hole in the back of his head he raises the microphone near his ear.

Razor Xtreme: “I am not accepting this match for myself. I am doing it for the wrestling business as a whole. You have no business being here. ‘The Elite One’ needs to be put out of his misery once and for all, and it is going to be my pleasure to be the one to do so. Sleep well, maybe do something about that cut on your face there, and I’ll see you at XWA On A Pole. Until then.”

Razor drops his microphone and blows Caleb a kiss as he slides out of the ring and walks back up the ramp. No music plays. The crowd is quiet. And the show ends with a close-up view of a the battered TV Champion.

Re: XWA Massacre #54 MAIN EVENT: Joey Miles © vs. Caleb Spires | World Television Championship!

Postby GiggityGopher » Thu May 28, 2020 12:28 pm

”Fake It” by Seether hits and the audience cheers, ready for the main event of the evening. Once the eighteen second mark of his music hits, Caleb emerges from the back and walks out onto the ramp. He grins his cocky, yet charming grin as he looks out at the cheering fans before his first ever title opportunity here in XWA. Spires begins his walk down the ramp.

Mark Sanction: ”It’s time for Caleb, who’s coming in off the heels of a victory over Jace Albright, to get his first title opportunity in XWA. And man, this is gonna be a good one.”

Tempest: ”There’s a reason this guy was considered among the best – if not THE best – from the other XWA.”

Mark Sanction: ”Without a doubt, Tempest. This is a big opportunity for him after half a decade out of the ring and, given his performances in his first two matches here, he’ll look to make the most of it.”

Upon reaching the ring, Caleb slides in and walks to the furthest corner from where he entered. ‘The Elite One’ pulls himself onto the middle rope, kisses the tops of his middle and index fingers and points out to the audience.

Mark Sanction: ”The fans have certainly taken to Caleb quickly, even those who didn’t watch the Association during its years in business. There’s a very likeable quality about him, along with his immense talent in the ring.”

Tempest: ”Yeah, and we can only say the same about one of those things, in regards to his opponent tonight.”

Caleb drops down from the middle rope and disrobes his entrance hoodie and pants. His music fades out and nothing is heard but the jumbled conversing of the fans until The Weeknd’s “Glass Table Girls” hits. Boos fill up the arena as Joey Miles makes his way out, walking backwards with his arms held out on both sides.

Mark Sanction: ”Speak of the devil; and I do mean the devil.”

The XWA World Television Championship is wrapped around his waist, although Alicia Miles isn’t seen by his side. Unlike during his match with Razor Xtreme at Massacre fifty-three, this time her absence wasn’t intentional. Once the song’s lyrics kick in, Joey spins around and begins his march to the ring, as his arms gently slide down.

Mark Sanction: ”You’ll notice that Joey’s sister Alicia isn’t accompanying him tonight. She had an exceptional match earlier in the night with Jace, but a later encounter with Sean Young is what kept her away now.”

Tempest: ”You say encounter, I say attempted homicide. Make no mistake about it, Mark, I dislike Alicia about as much as I dislike Joey, and I’m a fan of Sean, but he went too far tonight. But, on the other side, I mean … She just kept antagonizing him. That’s no excuse, but why? It was almost as if she wanted him to put her in a hospital.”

Mark Sanction: ”Regardless of whether she wanted it or not, that did happen. Alicia was immediately taken to a nearby medical facility following that encounter with Sean. We’ll keep you all updated if we get any news. As for Joey, you have to wonder if what happened to his sister will affect his concentration in this match.”

Tempest: ”Honestly, looking at him right now, he seems almost unbothered. I don’t know how he can be, though.”

Miles walks up the steel steps and enters the ring. He spins around into the corner opposite of Caleb and rests there for a moment, leaned against the turnbuckles. Miles unhooks his championship and then grabs it with one hand and raises it into the air for the booing crowd. Hana Ramierez steps into the center of the ring as Miles’ music fades out. Joey passes along his title to referee Tommy Tickles.

Hana Ramierez: ”The following match is our main event of the evening and it is for the XWA World Television Championship!”

Fans cheer as Tommy holds up the title for everyone to see.

Hana Ramierez: ”Introducing first, the challenger; from Mishawaka, Indiana and weighing in tonight at two hundred and five pounds, he is ‘The Elite One’, Caleb Spires!”

Caleb repeats his finger kiss and point pose from earlier in response to the cheering fans, while keeping that signature Spires grin on his face.

Hana Ramierez: ”And his opponent, the defending champion; from Miami, Florida and weighing in tonight at two hundred and seven pounds, he is the XWA World Television Champion, ‘One-Eighty’ Joey Miles!”

The cheers quickly dissolve into boos as the champion is announced. Hana exits the ring, along with the championship that was passed along to her by Tommy. Tickles makes sure both competitors are ready to begin and calls for the bell.

DING! DING! DING!

Champion and challenger circle one another. In a battle between two men who know their way around a hold or two very well, it’s unsurprising that this match begins with a collar-and-elbow tie-up. Caleb is quick to execute a standing switch and slide around behind Miles, where he applies a waist lock. Miles pries Caleb’s hands apart and does a switch of his own to apply a similar waist lock. Much-like Joey had done to him, Caleb pries his opponent’s hands apart, but he then falls up by reaching back and grabbing Joey’s head to pull him into a Headlock Takedown, where he keeps Joey grounded momentarily. But ‘180’ swiftly rolls backwards, landing on a foot and a knee, while pulling his head free from Caleb in the process and causing him to turn onto his stomach.

Promptly, Joey latches onto Caleb’s arm and tugs at it with a Fujiwara Armbar, but now Caleb is the one rolling himself to freedom; he rolls forward, slides his arm free and lands on his feet, kneeled down, by the ropes. Quickly, Caleb and Joey shoot back to standing bases and Joey rushes towards Caleb, but Spires slides around him and applies a Waist Lock once more. This time, he attempts to German Suplex the champion, but Joey blocks it mid-lift by wrapping one of his legs around Caleb’s leg. He then shoots an elbow back into Spires’ head while he was still being held up, loosening Spires’ grip. This allows Joey to roll forward and under Caleb, taking him with him in a wheelbarrow-style victory roll, to get the first pin attempt of the match, but Caleb kicks out almost instantly. The two shoot back up to their feet quickly and a momentary stare-off commences, as fans applaud the early efforts of both guys.

Mark Sanction: ”Both of these men are known to be very proficient in mat-based wrestling and that’s showing right away in this match.”

Tempest: ”Miles prides himself on his technical ability in the ring, and for good reason, but if anyone on the XWA roster right now can give him a run for his money in that department, it may be Caleb, although Razor certainly tested him two weeks ago.”

It’s not long before the two lock up again in the center of the ring. This time, Caleb uses his height advantage to gain leverage and push his shorter, albeit similar weight, opponent into the corner. However, just as Joey was about to touch the ropes, he spins Caleb around and tosses him into the corner instead. Almost instantaneously afterwards, Joey shotguns a knife edge chop into the chest of his opponent and it echoes loudly throughout the arena. Spires instinctively tries to cover up his immediately-reddened chest after that chop, but Joey pulls his arms out of the way and fires again with another, even harder chop. The champion looks to do the same a third time and he pulls his hand back even further before this attempt. However, Caleb uses that extra space to his advantage. He grabs the top rope with both hands and hoists himself up just in time to swing his knee right in front of where Joey’s chop was aimed! While Spires grimaces at the jolt of pain in his knee, Miles was the worse off in that exchange, as he lets out an audible gasp of pain. He turns around and walks away while shaking his hand to try to recuperate. Caleb watches from the corner, until he sees Miles make it over halfway across the ring. He then sprints forward and runs up behind the champion. Spires applies a waist lock and pulls Joey backwards into an O’Conner Roll! Instead of the traditional O’Connor Roll pin, however, he bridges himself backwards, pressing his hands against the canvas, to add further leverage for the pin attempt.

Mark Sanction: ”Roll-up!”

Tommy slides down into position to make the count.

THREE—The surprising pin almost catches Joey off guard enough to get the win, but Miles uses his feet to break free and then quickly wraps his arms around Caleb in a waist lock from underneath the challenger. He hurriedly rolls to the side to put himself on top of Caleb while he continues to hold the waist lock. In a smooth transition, he lands out of the roll with his legs split somewhat, just enough for him to plant the soles of his boots on the canvas, while still holding onto the challenger. Showcasing an impressive amount of power and athleticism, Miles begins to arch himself back up while carrying Caleb with him, with his partially split legs being forced to hold the weight up. The crowd applauds this effort, despite their disdain for Joey. Once he’s standing and has power lifted Caleb to the point of his body not touching the canvas, Joey corrects his legs so they aren’t split apart anymore, and, without letting Caleb’s feet touch the canvas even momentarily, Joey pulls him backwards into a German Suplex, as he holds on for a bridged pin attempt!

Caleb kicks out, but Miles keeps his arms around him! The champion rolls back over to his feet and pulls Spires back to a standing base with him, only to bring him back with a second German Suplex, landing in yet another bridged pin attempt!

T—Caleb kicks out a small bit later this time, but Joey refuses to let go! He transitions back to his feet once more, while keeping the waist lock applied. Once they’re both standing, Joey swiftly changes things up by applying a Half Nelson with one arm and a Chickenwing with the other arm. The proficient suplexer pulls Caleb back again, this time launching him with a Half & Half Suplex that spikes the challenger right on his head! The force of the suplex and the landing cause Caleb’s lower half to flip over his above half and he lands on his stomach, with his feet mere inches from the ropes.

Mark Sanction: ”Joey with what’s becoming a staple of his matches, a beautiful executed sequence of Suplexes.”

Tempest: ”The power he showed in deadlifting Caleb just then, while somewhat split-legged, was possibly the most impressive aspect of that. Joey is well built for a man of his height, but that takes more than just strength.”

Mark Sanction: ”Most importantly, that had to take a lot out of Caleb in what is still the early goings of this match. He’s a man with very high endurance, but that’s never something you want early on.”

Joey doesn’t plan to give Caleb any time to rest. He grabs Spires by the wrist and, while yanking him up by his arm, he begins to rain down slow, yet heavy stomps on the face and neck of the challenger. The pace picks up, however, when Miles reaches down and grabs Caleb’s other wrist. Pulling up on both arms at the same time, Joey lays into ‘The Elite One’ with faster, more ferocious stomps, as fans let out a mixed reaction; the violence against Caleb getting jeers, but the pace picking up getting cheers. Eventually, the Miami-native stops his stomping onslaught and lets go of one of Caleb’s wrist. By the other wrist, he pulls the challenger to his feet and then brings him in, only to drill him in the side of the head with a nasty Short-Arm Roundhouse Kick! Caleb drops and Joey covers him.

……

TWO—Kick out just after two!

Mark Sanction: ”Caleb kicks out, but Joey has taken firm control of this match.”

Tempest: ”And that Roundhouse Kick wasn’t a light tap. I heard that from over here, loud and clear.”

’180’, looking to keep the momentum going, pulls his challenger back up to his feet and then yanks him near the center of the ring. Joey flips Caleb off of his feet with a Snapmare that plants him, seated, directly in the center. Miles then takes off to the ropes. He rebounds off of them to gain momentum and returns to Caleb, looking to smash his face in with a knee strike, but Spires catches the champion off his guard by grabbing his oncoming knee! He uses the momentum of Joey’s run and rolls himself backwards, tripping Joey in the process as he maintains control of his leg, and he transitions into a Single-Leg Boston Crab! Fans cheer for the reversal from the much-preferred wrestler. Instantly, Caleb pulls himself and Joey a few steps forward, to get him further away from the ropes and then he leans into the hold to add pressure.

Mark Sanction: ”Oh, he caught him! Caleb caught the oncoming knee strike and transitioned excellently into a Single-Leg Boston Crab!”

Miles is pretty quick to try to break free, as he uses his untouched leg to try to rotate his body, but Caleb notices this and reaches out to grab that leg. While continuing to hold onto the other leg, Spires transitions the Single-Leg variation into a full-fledged Boston Crab and he leans even further into the hold than he was before, twisting Joey’s body even worse!

Tempest: ”And now Caleb has both legs!”

Mark Sanction; ”And he’s leaning into it really well! Joey’s in trouble!”

Joey knows there’s too much pressure pushing him down now that Caleb has both legs and can sit further down, which will prevent him from being able to rotate his body or try to flip himself under his opposition. Right now, his best chance at getting out of this hold is to pull himself, and Caleb, to the ropes. Knowing this, he begins to try. While Caleb has the height advantage, the two are near the same weight. Being four inches shorter, but three pounds heavier, Joey has more muscle and strength to work with, so pulling the weight of his opponent to the ropes isn’t quite as difficult as it could be. That said, when you’re being twisted very unnaturally backwards, in excruciation pain, it’s difficult all the same. Despite this, however, Joey pulls. He digs one forearm into the canvas while extending the other arm out and the process repeats, all while Caleb is forced to occasionally step backwards to avoid being taken off his balance. While the fans would absolutely love to see Joey submit tonight, it seems that won’t be the case as he gets close to the bottom rope. Miles appears to be within arm’s reach, so he extends his hand out, looking to grab the bottom rope.

Mark Sanction: ”Miles has almost made it to the ropes. Can he reach out and get the bottom rope?”

Just as it looks like Joey will do that, Joey finds the ropes pulling away. Or, rather, he’s being pulled away from them, as Caleb starts to march back into the center of the ring. Ever-the-opportunist, however, Joey uses this moment to his advantage, as he’s no longer being squatted down on so Caleb can walk. He starts to roll himself inward, in between Caleb’s legs. He even grabs onto one of Caleb’s legs to slow him down. Meanwhile, Joey starts shaking his legs as much as he can in an attempt to give Caleb too much to focus on so he can get a moment to get free. In the end, it works, as Caleb loosens his grip on one of Joey’s legs, while trying to focus on so much, just enough that Miles is able to slide the leg free. As soon as it’s free, he begins using it to kick upward at his opponent’s jaw and, after a few wild kicks, Caleb finally releases his opponent. Miles hurriedly gets back to his feet, but, before he can pounce, he instantly winces in pain and presses his hand against his lower back. This momentary distraction caused by the pain of that Boston Crab is enough for Spires to pounce. He promptly wraps his arms around Miles’ mid-section while leaning forward. Caleb takes Joey off of his feet and plants him on his back with a Northern Lights Suplex (known amongst his fans as Caution) that ends in a picture-perfect bridged pin attempt. Tommy quickly slides into place to count it.

Joey kicks out at two and a half!

Mark Sanction: ”Two and a half! Miles managed to escape the Boston Crab, but it did its damage and Caleb was able to capitalize with an expertly bridged Northern Lights Suplex that he likes to call Caution.”

Tempest: ”The kick out is what matters the most here, though. The champion’s still in it. And let’s not forget, Caleb took several drops on his head in this match. He’s gotta be feeling that, still.”

Hurriedly, Miles slides under the bottom rope in an attempt to get some reprieve on the apron. He pulls himself back up with the ropes, but Caleb is right on him. The challenger drills his adversary with a forearm strike over the top rope and then pulls his head in to set up for a Suplex back into the ring. As Caleb lifts, however, Joey wildly shakes his legs to mess with Spires’ balance and fight it. This works and Joey is able to step back down onto the apron. Now, it’s his turn to attempt a Suplex – this one aimed at the outside, far more dangerous – but Caleb latches onto the middle rope when he gets lifted, to keep him from going any further. As his feet touch the canvas again, Caleb quickly pries himself out of Joey’s grasp, grabs his head with both hands and then drops down, guillotining the champion on the top rope.

His head snaps back from the impact, but he doesn’t fall from the apron. Spires gets back up and goes to grab his adversary again, but Joey strikes back with a closed fist punch that rocks the challenger. ‘The Elite One’ turns from the punch and keels over a little bit, as he tries to shake it off. This, unfortunately for Caleb, puts him in prime position for one of Joey’s signature moves. The champion launches himself over the top rope to attempt a Slingshot DDT, but Caleb proves too quick. As Joey’s arm is extended out, reaching for Caleb’s head, the challenger quickly side steps and wraps his arm around Joey’s incoming arm, before helping gravity take Miles down to the canvas as he tries to apply his finishing submission hold, the Crossface known as Inspired! Fans pop for the reversal, but, before he could wrap his arms around Joey’s head, Miles slides himself under the ropes, while yanking his arm free, and he drops to the outside of the ring, garnering boos from the fans.

Mark Sanction: ”Oh, Caleb almost had him there! But Joey snuck under that bottom rope quickly to avoid Inspired!’

Tempest: ”The positioning would’ve resulted in a rope break regardless, but Caleb would have a full five count to work with and that would have been five seconds more of that Crossface of Caleb’s than Joey needs right now.”

Miles takes this time to recuperate on the outside, as Tommy calls for him to get back in the ring and then begins a ten count. Caleb, in the meantime, watches Joey’s every move, waiting for him to step right where he wants him to step. Focused on getting some energy back, as well as giving his lower back some time to rest, Miles is seemingly unaware as he steps directly into the spot Caleb was waiting for. Inside the ring, Spires runs to the ropes opposing where Joey is and he rebounds off of them to gain speed. He then darts full speed ahead in Joey’s direction and he takes flight, looking to fly through the middle and top ropes with a Suicide Dive! However, only up to Caleb’s chest makes it through the ropes before Miles, having been playing possum, drills him with a fierce European Uppercut!

Caleb pulls himself back into the ring and then stumbles away as he rubs his collarbone, which took the brunt of that. The champion slides into the ring and gets back to his feet while Caleb starts to turn back towards him. Joey runs towards Caleb, but he’s intercepted with a low Thrust Kick to the mid-section that doubles him over. As Joey stumbles about for a second, Caleb dashes towards the ropes. He leaps into the air and, without so much as even touching the top rope for balance, he gracefully springboards off of the middle rope into a Moonsault! The landing, however, is anything but graceful. Joey side-steps as Caleb leaves the rope, but he doesn’t just settle for Spires missing. Instead, he swings his foot up in a Roundhouse Kick that catches the mid-air, upside-down challenger right in the face with the vamp of his boot! Following the kick, extra damage comes from Caleb’s rough landing on the canvas, though he luckily manages not to land directly on his head or neck.

Mark Sanction: ”Woah! Big-time Roundhouse Kick catching Caleb out of the skies!”

Tempest: ”Caught him right in the face with that, too! Ouch!”

Miles hurriedly drops down on top of Caleb for a pin attempt.

THR—Caleb manages to get his shoulder up after a fairly close two count!

Mark Sanction: ”Caleb kicks out, though!”

Miles gets back to his feet and the frustration is starting to set in. That mixed with the champion’s knowledge that he’s spent most of this match targeting Caleb’s head leads him to begin stomping on that head. Joey destructively brings his foot down on the side of Caleb’s face, over and over, as he lets his frustrations out while continuing to attack the same body part that his new, dangerous finisher, IBD – Irreversible Brain Damage, targets. Once he’s finished mashing the challenger’s head into the canvas with stomps, he takes a moment to stretch out his torso. It’s clear, even after all this time has elapsed, Miles is still trying to alleviate some of the pain in his lower back from his earlier, lengthy stay in the Boston Crab. Joey grabs Caleb by the hair and, while he ignores Tommy admonishing him for the hair grabbing, he yanks ‘The Elite One’ back to his feet. ”It’s over!” Miles shouts out for the whole arena to hear, signaling the end. He pulls Spires onto his shoulders ala Argentine Backbreaker, setting up for the previously mentioned new finisher of his. However, once he gets Caleb up fully, he winces from the back pain. Regardless, he keeps Caleb on his shoulders.

Mark Sanction: ”Oh, he’s looking for that new move of his!”

Tempest: ”Caleb may be knocked unconscious if he can land it. This might be the end.”

Caleb, in full realization of what danger he’s in, begins trying desperately to free himself of his opponent’s grasp. He does so by swinging his elbow continually into the side of the champion’s face. Each hit causes Joey to grow more and more dazed, while his upper body starts to lean forward. Eventually, he leans forward enough for Caleb to slide off, but the elbows don’t stop then. At this point, Spires continues to rain the point of his elbow down on the back of Joey’s head, pushing him further and further into a bent over position. Finally, Caleb takes a few steps back to size up his opposition. He then flashes in and flips over Miles, as he grabs Joey’s head in the process, and he drives the champion down into the canvas with a Somersault Neckbreaker! Caleb swiftly goes for the pin.

TWO!—Joey rolls his shoulder up at two! At this point, however, Caleb is beginning to feel the momentum pumping in him. He pulls Joey back to his feet and sends him careening into the corner with an Irish Whip. Joey pivots so that he ends up going back-first into the corner rather than front first, but all this does is leave him open to an oncoming knee strike from the running Caleb that rocks him in the jaw! Spires pulls Joey out of the corner in what looks like it’ll be another Irish Whip attempt, but, instead of whipping him across the ring, Caleb just slides behind his opponent and applies a waist lock. While Joey has landed several of these before in the match, it’s Caleb’s turn, as he pulls Miles into a German Suplex, but, unlike Joey’s that had ended in bridged pins, this one ends in the back of Joey’s head and neck cracking against the middle turnbuckle! Fans cheer for the jagged German Suplex and Caleb pulls Joey out of the corner by his foot before he attempts another pin.

THR—But, while Caleb had pulled Joey out of the corner, he didn’t pull him far enough away for Miles to be unable to grab the bottom rope and he does just that.

Mark Sanction: ”Jeez, Joey’s head snapped from that German Suplex! But he still had the wherewithal to grab the bottom rope. Caleb didn’t pull him far enough out of the corner to keep that rope from within his reach.[/b]

Tempest: ”Caleb has been on fire since his return to wrestling, but being five years removed from the business may result in some mistakes like that. Or, you know, it could be the amount of times he was hit in or dropped on his head, tonight.”

Mark Sanction: ”At least he wasn’t Suplexed into the turnbuckle on his head, Tempest. That one looked rough.”

Disappointed, partially in himself for not pulling Joey away from the ropes far enough, Caleb tries his best to shake it off and continue with the offense. He begins to pull Miles back to his feet, but Joey comes to life again with a very sudden, very hard-hitting headbutt that connects with the challenger’s jaw! Caleb stumbles backwards a few steps, but Joey stays on him. He wraps his arms around Spires and tosses him over-head with a Belly-to-Belly Suplex! Now being the one feeling the momentum, Joey yells out bellicosely for his adversary to get up. Once Spires is standing again, Joey kicks him in the midsection, doubling him over. He entwines his own arms with those of his opponent to apply a double underhook, clearly setting up for a Butterfly Suplex.

Caleb won’t allow it, however. He fights it by dropping down onto a knee. Joey won’t allow him to fight it, however. He yanks Caleb back up by his arms. He then begins to attempt to lift his opponent, but Caleb puts on the breaks again and drops down to a knee. Frustrated at this point, Joey releases his double underhook, but only so he can take the moment to hit his kneeling opponent in the face with a very fierce knee strike! With Caleb dazed, Joey speedily reapplies the double underhook and, this time, he gives Caleb no chance to drop to a knee again. Miles sends Caleb over-head with the most snap-like Butterfly Suplex he can muster, despite the pain in his lower back. He then promptly pins the challenger.

……

Caleb manages to get his shoulder up at two and a half! Joey pounds the canvas in frustration.

Mark Sanction: ”This match has been back-and-forth all throughout, but no one is staying down!”

Tempest: ”If anything, these two are just getting more enthusiastic in their assault. Well, maybe aggressive is the word for Joey.”

Caleb has been putting up a great fight against Joey and the defending champion, while impressed, has had enough of it. It’s time to up the stakes, in his mind. Joey pulls Caleb back to his feet and drags him to the nearest corner. He puts Caleb’s arm over his shoulder to help get in a good position and then he raises his challenger onto a seated position on the top rope, facing away from the ring. Miles climbs up the ropes from behind Spires, getting all the way to the top rope. At this point, he yanks ‘The Elite One’ to his feet, also on the top rope, and he applies a waist lock. It’s clear Joey intends to attempt his favorite Suplex from all the way up here! Caleb won’t take it without a fight, however. Abruptly, Spires swings his head backwards into Joey’s, cracking him in the nose.

Miles nearly falls, but he manages to maintain his balance, while letting go of Caleb. The challenger uses this distraction to his advantage and he slides down the corner, through the small opening available. He takes a step behind Joey and then pushes him from the back of his calves. Joey’s feet slide off of the top rope and he falls. The champion hits bottom-first on the top rope, while falling backwards, but his feet end up entangled in the middle rope with his legs outside of the ring, so instead of falling off the turnbuckle, he falls into a tree-of-woe position. Caleb takes immediate advantage of this. Spires lays into Joey’s exposed torso with shoot-style kicks, aimed right in the center of his chest. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven! Each of these seven kicks send a loud smacking sound through the arena.

Caleb then dashes across the ring to the opposing corner to gain distance. He sets his sights directly on Miles and bursts full speed ahead. The challenger lands a Baseball Slide-like Dropkick to the upside-down head of his adversary. Caleb isn’t done yet, however, as Joey is still hung in the tree-of-woe. He reaches down and grabs Joey by the shoulders. Spires pulls the champion up into a seated position on the top rope, similar to the position Joey had put him in just moments ago. Caleb then, as Joey did earlier, climbs onto the top rope. Instead of applying a Waist Lock like Joey did, however, Caleb applies an inverted facelock. He grabs a hold of Joey’s tights with his free hand and the two take flight. Miles is flipped and forced to get a good look at The View From Halfway Down!

Mark Sanction: ”A huge Inverted Superplex from Caleb Spires! We saw him pull that one off against Jace and that may be all he needs tonight!”

Caleb, while breathing heavily from the impact he also had to take from the move, rolls Joey onto his back and hooks his leg.

THREE—Joey gets a shoulder up in what would require a booth review in other sports!

Mark Sanction: ”No, Joey kicks out!”

Tempest: ”Ooh, man, I thought that was it.”

For the first time in the match, nobody gets up quickly following a kick out. Caleb rolls off of Joey, but he decides to take a minute to catch his breath, as well as let the headache he’s feeling from so many head-based attacks cool down a little. Maybe ramming his head backwards into Joey’s wasn’t the most ideal way to get out of that top rope German Suplex, but it certainly was a preferred option over taking the Suplex itself. After a brief period of rest, the two begin to get back to their feet at relatively the same time. Once they’re both standing, it’s Joey who strikes first. Miles nails his adversary with a European Uppercut to a response of boos from the fans. Those same fans then cheer as Caleb returns the favor with a European Uppercut of his own. This then becomes the battle. European Uppercut returned for European Uppercut as the fans jeer each one from Joey and applaud each one from Caleb.

Mark Sanction: ”An exchange of uppercuts! Who will get the upper hand?!”

The hits get harder and the hits get faster as the two exchange shots, to the point where the fans’ cheering and booing begins to mesh together. But in the end, it ends up being Caleb that feels the adrenaline pumping just a bit more and, after a few uninterrupted uppercuts, he starts to rapid fire his arm into Joey’s jaw, to big cheers!

Mark Sanction: ”It’s Caleb, taking the advantage! And he’s firing off those uppercuts with speed!”

After he’s sufficiently laid waste to Miles’ jawline, Caleb keeps it going with an Irish Whip. Joey is sent towards the ropes and rebounds off of them while Spires dashed towards him. He leaps, looking to meet Joey in the center of the ring with a Leg Lariat, but Miles has the wherewithal to push Caleb over him, forcing him to land behind the champion. Going as fast as he can, given the circumstances, Joey spins around and drills the challenger with another European Uppercut, this one aimed at the back of his head! Hurriedly, he applies a Waist Lock. German Suplex attempt number – oh, who’s even counting at this point? Regardless, this one turns out about as well as the top rope attempt did. Caleb showcases his athleticism as he back flips from the release German Suplex and lands on his feet! He does take a second to gain his balance after the landing, which allows Joey enough time to shoot back to his feet, but it’s all for naught as he’s caught with a gorgeous Dropkick from Caleb! The Dropkick doesn’t take Joey down, however. Rather, it pushes him backwards into the ropes. Joey’s back hits the ropes and he groggily steps forward only to take another kick; this one of the Superkick variety; Lights Out!

Mark Sanction: ”Lights Out!”

And it would’ve been lights out for Joey had the ropes not broken his fall again. Joey stumbles away from the ropes, but he suddenly pivots to his side and shoots a Superkick of his own, straight into Caleb’s jaw! The sudden shot-back-to-life Superkick drops Caleb, but Joey collapsing not even a second afterwards, clearly having only gotten that response Superkick in due to adrenaline. The audience, however, cheers heavily at the back-and-forth showcase with both men down in the end.

Tempest: ”And Joey responds with a Superkick of his own! Christ!”

Mark Sanction: ”Both men are down!”

Tommy checks on both men momentarily and, after he comes to the conclusion that neither is getting up right now, he begins a ten count that could potentially end in a double count-out draw, though that would hardly send the fans home satisfied. Fortunately for this hot crowd in Chicago, there won’t be a double count-out right now. It takes until the count of six for either man to even begin stirring, but they both manage to reach their feet by eight, nearly nine. Once standing, both men take a moment to regain their composure, but it’s Joey who strikes first. He looks to drill the challenger in the side of the head with another Roundhouse Kick, but Caleb ducks it. He quickly applies a Waist Lock and, you guessed it, it’s time for another German Suplex. This one lands in a bridged pinning attempt and Tommy quickly gets into position to count.

Miles kicks out at a count of two and a half and both he and Caleb desperately try to get back to their feet first. In the end, Spires was just a tiny bit quick and he shoots a kick at Joey’s mid-section, but the champion catches his foot. This doesn’t save him, however, as Spires then swings his other foot to land his signature Step-Up Enzuigiri; Encore!

Mark Sanction: ”Big-time Enziguiri from Caleb!”

Miles face-first to the canvas, but Caleb doesn’t go for the pin. Instead, he rushes across the ring and waits. The challenger’s legs shaking with anticipation and the fans begin to get loud again, as they know what he’s preparing for. Joey starts to get up, but as he reaches all fours, he becomes the targeted victim of Facial; Caleb’s finishing Curb Stomp, done with the knee rather than the foot! But, while using the knee for such a move is more painful for the opponent when it lands, it’s also more painful for the user when it misses and that’s exactly what happens when Joey rolls out of the way. Caleb’s knee slams into the canvas and the challenger lets out a brief, pain-filled yell.

Mark Sanction: ”Facial—but no, Joey moves!”

Caleb gets back up, but he immediately stumbles back down to a knee, due to the jolt of pain. Shaking, he forces himself to fight through the pain and rise back to a standing base. And then, Miles shoots the sole of his boot into his opponent’s throat, landing the Sudden Death variation of the Superkick!

Mark Sanction: ”Sudden Death!”

Caleb isn’t afforded the luxury of going down right now. Right before he could fall, Joey hastily does a standing switch behind him and then he raises the challenger onto his shoulders. This time, ignoring the pain in his lower back, Joey doesn’t give Caleb a chance to fight his way out of this. He pushes Caleb’s upper body off of his shoulders and swings, with as much ferocity as possible, his knee into the back of Spires’ head!

Mark Sanction: ”IBD; Irreversible Brain Damage, as Joey calls it!”

Joey drops down on top of the challenger and hooks the leg.

DING! DING! DING!

”Glass Table Girls” plays as the audience boos the result of the match.

Hana Ramierez: ”Here is your winner, and STILL the XWA World Television Champion, Joey Miles!”

Joey pulls himself back to his feet and takes a moment to catch his breath.

Mark Sanction: ”Another very impressive win for Joey, but you have to give credit to Caleb. He came into this company after not competing for five years and he’s been phenomenal. Despite the loss, his performance tonight as no different.”

Tempest: ”Caleb is a star, no doubt about it. But that just speaks to how much dedication we’re seeing from Joey right now. For all his faults, the guy is serious about that championship and we’ve been witnessing some of his all-time best performances when it’s on the line.”

Mark Sanction: ”Absolutely, Tempest. And being able to come out here and focus like he did tonight, despite the … unfortunate … situation earlier in the night, involving his sister, it’s admirable. About one of the only very few admirable things about Joey, but admirable nonetheless.”

Tommy passes along the championship to Joey, who’s too exhausted to snatch it away from him with the usual aggression he tends to snatch titles from referees with. Instead, Joey just takes the title from the official and gives a kiss to its center plate. He holds it up for the booing audience to see and then looks down at Caleb. While the now-former challenger is still dazed from the IBD and he likely didn’t notice, Joey acknowledges him with a simple nod. Being the Television Champion has awoken a hunger for competition that Joey didn’t know he had and Caleb certainly gave him his fill.

Mark Sanction: ”Next up for Joey, the rematch with Sean Young. While it won’t be for that championship, given that it isn’t happening on Massacre, that will still be a very important, and very dangerous if Sean’s actions earlier tonight are any indication, match for Miles. As for Caleb, his past in the other XWA was very bright and his future here looks to be just as bright, despite this bump in the road.”

Tempest: ”Definitely someone to keep an eye.”

Joey continues his celebration in the ring as the signature for the show appears in the bottom left corner.

Mark Sanction: ”Ladies and gentlemen, I’m Mark Sanction, here with Tempest, and I’ll be seeing you next month in Manhattan.”
