Albion Gale (c) vs. Jace Albright vs. Dave O'Connor

Albion Gale entered 2019 with the XWA Lord of the Ring on her finger and one simple goal: don't let them think last year was a fluke. Needless to say, the Duality of Woman didn't come close to a sophomore slump; she won the World Television Championship at XWA's China Anniversary, defended it through the spring, and just four days after dropping that title, she walked into The XWA 500, made Danny Diamond submit, and became the 11th Supreme XWA Champion in her home state of Indiana. But now, in her third defense, she faces the two people who've chased her the hardest in a match that will decide the course of XWA's future as we head into a new decade.

In one corner, we have Jace Albright, who started the year as the official One to Watch and proceeded to prove he deserved that title by racking up victory after victory over big names like Joey Miles and A.J. Morales, but found himself frustrated as others cut the line to Supremacy every time he reached the top of the XWA Top Ten until finally getting his shot here as the rightful #1 contender. In the other, we have Dave O'Connor, the man who took the Television title from Albion, and who she defeated in her first Supremacy defense, only for him to crash the second and end XWA On A Boat by sending both her and himself plummeting into the depths of the Caribbean Sea. Even though Dave was supposed to be out of the title picture, Gale was so furious at his actions that she demanded a chance to get even here at Legends XX and win the all-important rubber match at any cost.

And so, XWA owner Bella Quinn booked a compromise: Gale, Albright, and O'Connor, the three biggest homegrown stars to emerge since Team XWA buried the Survivors and Quinn took sole ownership of the company in December 2017, will battle inside the iconic Etihad Stadium until two are eliminated and one reigns Supreme, not just over their generation, or even the BattleZone, but the entire pro wrestling world. Will the Duality of Woman prove too strong for both her challengers to handle? Will the Starlight finally shine as bright as the fans believe he can? Or will the Maniac end up running the asylum? Twenty Years of Immortality have led up to this very moment. Whether you're watching on the Xperience or the Battleground Network, this is a main event you NEED to see!

With Jace, Albion, and Dave each standing in their respective corners, we're seconds away from the bell ringing to signal the start of the evening's barn burner main event; the Manchester, England crowd is raucous for this never-before-seen Triple Threat Elimination match between three of XWA's biggest home-grown stars. Albion and Jace can both be seen getting some last-second advice from their cornermen; Seiji, and Ethan, respectively. Dave O'Connor, on the other hand, is focused on one thing, and one thing only, and it's not Alissa O'Connor. It's his rival, Albion Gale, at whom the Bostonian stares a fiery, burning hole. If looks could kill...

Matt Steel:
“Look at that man. Dave O'Connor's got a stare that could freeze a man solid during a heatwave.”

Mark Sanction:
“You're not kidding. It's the main event of XWA Legends, folks, and here... we... go!”

In the center of the ring, Jack Tickles raises his hand; the bell rings, and the main event has begun! Like a rabid dog being let off of his chain, Dave O'Connor explodes out of his corner with a burst of speed, teeth gnashing at the opportunity to get his hands on his hated rival, but he's not the only one- Jace Albright thunders across the ring from the adjacent corner; just before Dave can get his violent hands on the Supreme Champion, the "Dark Horse of XWA" cuts him off in sudden fashion with a HUGE running Front Dropkick! The John Woo kick sends Dave careening into the ropes, where he collapses to the canvas in stunned silence. Albion, is as stunned, and quite possibly as wide-eyed having witnessed that kick only inches from her face. Albion quickly steps out onto the apron as a startled Dave O'Connor finds himself sitting up on the canvas, looking for the license plate number of the truck that just ran him over. Instead, he finds Jace Albright rebounding off of the ropes toward him. Jace might not have any New York plates on, but he's certainly got a number- and it might just be Dave's number- as he hurries back across the ring in a blur and swings the toe of his boot directly into the face of "The Maniac" with a devastating Penalty Kick! Dave's head snaps back, colliding with the bottom rope as Alissa O'Connor rushes to the aid of her client and husband, who promptly rolls out of the ring to reboot; the Manchester crowd, who have witnessed quite a number of penalty kicks in this very arena, respond in kind with a loud chorus of "Yaya, ya-yaya!"

Mark Sanction:
“Good lord! If Jace wanted the attention of Dave O'Connor, I think he just got it! He got the attention of the fans too. I... think?”

Matt Steel:
“Brits are weird, Sanction. Drunk Brits are even weirder. Don't look too deep into it.”

Inside the ring, Jace stares down at the two O'Connors, then leans down and taps on his shin, revealing a kick-pad. "What did I tell you I was gonna do?" Jace shouts, again, alluding to his previous tweets about "kicking everyone right in the fucking mouth". He doesn't spend too much time trash-talking, however, quickly lifting his gaze to meet that of the Supreme Champion, still on the apron. Bowing his head, Jace takes several steps back and holds his hands up, letting Albion re-enter the ring unmolested, prompting some applause from the crowd, who appreciate the mutual respect. Though she's reluctant at first, "The Duality of Woman" climbs back into the ring. She casts a quick glance down at Dave, then up at Jace, and mouths a single, impressed word. "Nice."

Matt Steel:
“Look at this fucking goof, trying to pander to the champion. Does he think she's gonna help in in a match for her title?”

Mark Sanction:
“No pandering as far as I can tell, Steel. Albion's respected him from day one. She called him out over Twitter for him thinking she was overlooking him. I think Jace just wants to wrestle, but with the blood feud between Albion and Dave, I don't think he's gonna get what he wants.”

Matt Steel:
“You're right! He's gonna get himself killed.”

In response, Jace laughs, then offers the Supreme Champion a handshake. Of his two opponents, Albright knew full-well Albion would not be looking past him. Given the recent change in attitude of the "One to Watch", Albion is understandably hesitant all over again. Realizing Dave will be back in the ring sooner rather than later, however, the Supreme Champion tentatively agrees, and returns the gesture of respect, shaking Jace's hand in the center of the ring. Once again, there's a round of applause, accented by the tenor of appreciative cheering from the Manchester crowd. With that out of the way, the two begin circling like vultures over a fresh kill, preparing to lock up in the center of the ring with a collar-and-elbow tie-up. Albion lunges, and that's Albright's cue; tucking his shoulder, Jace throws himself to the canvas, executing a crisp forward roll to put himself out of harm's way. Carrying his momentum through, Jace rolls right back to his feet and takes off into the far ropes; as he rebounds toward Albion, the Supreme Champion is thinking just as quickly as one of her challengers is moving, and side-steps "Starlight", placing both hands on his back to shove him into the opposite set of ropes with increased momentum, but contrary to expectation, Albright is able to take advantage of the extra speed, rebounding off of the ropes a second time. Gale's not quite able to keep pace this time, and braces for impact, only to be taken aback as Jace throws himself into a collar-and-elbow tie-up with the Supreme Champion, transfering that newly-granted momentum into powering Albion across the ring! Though surprised, it doesn't take her long to realize what Jace is doing, and instead of trying to counter that momentum with sheer power, she turns it around on her challenger, pivoting on a dime to transfer that momentum right back to Albright, who she begins to muscle towards the corner of the ring. And again, Jace has a plan B; allowing Gale to push him into the corner, Albright executes a "Shining" maneuver as he places his foot on the bottom turnbuckle, then, quickly, scurries up the corner and plants off of the Champion's shoulder in a one-armed hand-stand; the arm previously braced on the soft part of Albion's elbow snakes around to hook her arm, and as Jace drops out of orbit, he tosses her to the mat with a unique Arm Drag!

Mark Sanction:
“And a hand-plant into the Arm Drag there by Jace Albright! That's as unique a maneuver as I've ever seen!”

Matt Steel:
“The 'hand-plant'! You been trying to re-live the leg years with some old Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, Sanction? Besides, it's a fuckin' arm drag. He's not gonna win any awards for it. He's DEFINITELY not gonna win any matches with it!”

Jace can only grin as he pops back up to his feet. Albion rolls through with the momentum of the Arm Drag and quickly finds her own vertical base all over again as she rises to meet Jace with a much more serious expression. In the center of the ring, Champion and Challenger lock up a second time; Jace uses his quickness to pivot his body to one side, wrapping an arm around the neck of the Indiana native to apply a standing side headlock; with a pop of his hips, Jace wrestles her down with a Headlock Takeover, maintaining control of the Headlock as he joins her on the canvas. It's an age-old move with an age-old counter, and the experienced Gale is quick to go to it, pulling her long legs back towards her own head, then wrapping them around her opponent's, cinching in a headscissors on the "One to Watch". Something shakes the canvas; the sound of footsteps. Jace leans back on his hands, and with a burst of athleticism, kips up out of Albion's hold, only to find the favour returned by Dave O'Connor, whose boot sole slams into the side of his head! A Bicycle Kick from an angry "Maniac" drops Albright like a gunshot! Albion quickly rolls into a position where she can see Dave and spring back to her feet if need be, but it seems that her other challenger isn't quite done letting Jace know how he feels. Clenching his jaw, Dave reaches down and grabs a handful of Jace's endless brown-locks- all legal in this triple threat match with very minimal rules- and yanks the "One to Watch" back to his feet, placing one hand on the back of Jace's head, and the other on his shoulder. From the outside, Alissa screams furiously at the 'third wheel' of the Supreme Championship match: "Stay the fuck outta our business, ya no-name fuckin skid!" With that, Dave lets out a mighty heave, stepping through and launching Jace clear across the ring- nearly corner to corner- with a tremendous Biel Toss that sees Jace land flat on his back, bounce up to a seated position, then flop onto his side, where he dazedly rolls out of the ring, landing on the floor with a dull thud.

Mark Sanction:
“Jesus!”

Matt Steel:
“See ya later, Jace! Don't forget to collect your Air Miles!”

On the outside, Alissa circles around the ring, laughing heartily at the victimized "One to Watch" as he tries to get to all fours, gasping for breath. The "Red-Haired Goddess" vindictively drives the toe of her boot into Jace's soft mid-section; Jace responds with an uncomfortable heaving sound before collapsing onto his side, clutching his ribs, struggling to breathe. Ethan comes around from the opposite side of the ring to check on Jace as Alissa walks away nonchalantly.

Matt Steel:
*Laughing*

Mark Sanction:
“Oh, look at that. Alissa O'Connor with a cheap shot to Jace Albright. Never seen that before...”

Back on her feet in the ring, Albion Gale confronts Dave O'Connor, walking right up to stand nose-to-nose with the Maniac, letting him know just how she feels about him, in a lot of words. Most of them expletives. From the outside, Seiji shouts at Albion to calm down, despite very much wanting to do the same. Dave seems amused by this trash-talk, and remains calm and cocky in the face of the Supreme Champion's choice words. "How about you shut the fuck up and wrestle me, Champ?" O'Connor retorts, backing up and raising his gloved fists in... what appears to be a motion for a lockup?

Mark Sanction:
“Uh... is Dave O'Connor inviting Albion Gale... to lock up? I don’t think I’ve ever seen Dave do this.”

Matt Steel:
“That’s because he doesn’t do this. He’s not a wrestler, he’s a fighter. Something's up, Sanction. Just watch.”

After everything he's put them through- up to and including throwing her and Seiji off a god damn boat- NOW he wants to wrestle? So be it. Gale's all too eager to accept Dave's challenge, and she meets him in the center of the ring with a collar-and-elbow tie-up. As suspected, it turns out to be a ruse; Dave immediately tries to throw a clinched knee, but Albion’s too quick for him, and "The Duality of Woman" is able to pivot her body, grabbing a tight Side Headlock on her devious opponent as she dodges out of the way of the strike. The challenger quickly powers the the Champion off of her feat, lifting her up for a Belly-to-Back Suplex, but Albion lets go and rolls backwards over Dave's shoulder, landing on both feet. Immediately, Gale wraps both arms around the stomach of "The Maniac" and clasps her hands to cinch in a Rear Waistlock, but her grip proves to be fallible as Dave pulls her hands apart and reverses the position with a standing switch into a Waistlock of his own. Belly to back, Dave lets go of the hold, much to Albion's surprise, and turns to grab her head in a neckbreaker position, back-to-back, then twists Albion's body around as he turns to lock in a tight Front Facelock. Dave begins wrenching on the hold, yanking on Gale's head, just underneath her jaw. He begins circling around the ring, muscling the Supreme Champion around with a simple, but painful hold as he begins trying to lift her off her feet solely by her neck. A twist on a traditional wrestling throw, but far more vindictive. This prompts a grunt of pain, as well as shouts of anger from Seiji on the outside, who knows exactly what Dave is doing- mocking Kaji Fireson's neck injury by targeting Albion's neck and head right out of the gate. But Albion's mind isn't on Seiji's half-brother and her mentor. It's on Dave O'Connor, getting her revenge, and retaining the XWA Supreme Championship. As such, Gale doesn't fall for the head-games. Like a seasoned veteran, she sandbags, sprawling to the mat to avoid being overpowered by the disgraced Mixed Martial Artist. Unfortunately for the “Duality of Woman", as wise a move as that is, it's a move Dave O'Connor is ultimately prepared for, as he drops low himself, and begins assaulting the Champion with punishing knee strikes to the crown of her head, as well as each shoulder, interchangeably; whatever Dave can land a hit on, while Alissa laughs on the outside, earning jeers of pure spite from this capacity crowd at the Ethiad Stadium.

Mark Sanction:
“And Dave O'Connor is just working over Albion Gale with those knees! He's got the Supreme Champion grounded!”

Matt Steel:
"Yeah, baby! This is why he's walking out of Legends with the Championship! This man is a BEAST!"

It becomes clear that Albion isn't getting out of his predicament of her own volition, as she takes unprotected knee after unprotected knee to the skull, and Dave knows it. Looking to continue the punishment, he begins muscling the Supreme Champion back to her feet with a cocky smile plastered across his lips. Transitioning out of the front Facelock, and into a Muay Thai clinch, the knees start coming and they don't stop coming- at least not until he says so- which is about seven-or-eight knee strikes deep. With Gale all but dead weight, O'Connor changes position again; one hand on the back of her head, one on her shoulder, and just like Albright before her, Dave sends her hurtling across the ring with a mighty Biel Toss, earning a few cheers for getting some impressive height, but ultimately getting a disdainful reaction from the Manchester crowd for his brutalising of the Supreme Champion. Raising his gloved fists up to face height, "The Maniac" strikes his signature pose- a fighting stance- and dares the "Duality of Woman" to 'come on'. To her credit, Albion gets her bearings with surprising quickness. As Gale rises to her feet, the blood streaming out of her nose becomes uncomfortably apparent, but it doesn't look like that's going to slow her down for a second as the Supreme Champion mirrors Dave's combative stance and begins circling around the ring all over again. This isn't a wrestling match anymore; it's a fight. And that puts it even more firmly in O'Connor's wheelhouse.

Mark Sanction:
“I don't think Albion wants to... oh, God. She's bleeding quite heavily from the nose. She could have a broken nose from those Muay Thai knees!”

Matt Steel:
"I don't think it's a broken nose, or we'd see her gulping air right now. But Dave is absolutely fucking her night up!"

As Champion and Challenger circle the ring, they slowly spiral toward its center, and upon reaching that point, begin an exchange of strikes. Jabs from Dave are promptly blocked and parried by Albion, who mixes it up with "The Maniac", throwing a couple jabs of her own. Outside the ring, Seiji Shimuzu protests Albion's decision, but ultimately, goes ignored. Alissa O'Connor, on the other hand, couldn't be more thrilled, egging her husband on: "Rough her up, babe! Take that fuckin pontsa's belt!" Albion is the first to land a strike- a round kick to Dave's inside leg- but that distinction is quickly invalidated as Albion's hands drop as part of the follow-through, and Dave lands a trio of alternating jabs to Gale's exposed visage. A kick to the body follows, prompting Gale to wince as she feels her organs bashed against the inside of her ribcage, but it doesn't stop her from countering back with a body kick of her own, as her calf wraps around the body of O'Connor, and the point of her boot digs into his lower back. Dave lurches forward, allowing Gale to land a short left jab, but "The Maniac" is quick to reach into Gale's guard and press the palm of his right hand against her cheek, pie-facing the champion and shoving her back. Gale lands another kick- this one impacting just under his left shoulder. She carries her momentum through, pirouetting before landing back in her fighting stance.

Mark Sanction:
“Give credit where credit is due, folks, Albion is playing Dave O'Connor's game with a lot more success than I think just about anybody would expect of her, but I still think it's incredibly unwise for her to continue to stand and strike with 'The Maniac'.”

Matt Steel:
"It's incredibly unwise, but keep your voice down! I wanna see more of this!"

This time. the "Duality of Woman" goes for a high roundhouse, but it's promptly ducked by the challenger; as Gale continues the momentum of the missed kick, Dave crouches down into a three-point-stance, and as Albion comes 'round, he charges forward, setting his shoulder into her midsection and powering the champion across the ring! O'Connor plows his opponent across the ring like the freshly fallen snow back home in Boston, but before he can drive her into the turnbuckles, Gale, like a true force of nature- unpredictable- stamps her heel into the mat and uses Dave's own momentum to drive him into the corner instead! Dave tries to cover up, but instead, gets his lower back driven in between the top and middle buckles, and Albion is quick to take advantage of this position, clubbing the back of Dave's head and neck with overhand forearm shots. Despite getting his bell rung- or more accurately because of it- the Bostonian tries to shoot for Albion's leg, but Albion shoots back, giving Dave all of that leg as she drives the butt of her knee into O'Connor's forehead, crumpling the challenger in the corner. Dave sinks low- literally and figuratively- mustering the last counter he can think of, throwing a short uppercut that lands flush between Albion's legs and sends pain radiating upward throughout her entire body. As Albion doubles over in response to the unexpected cheap shot- which, despite being perfectly legal in the very loose confines of the stipulation, still garners well-deserved and HEAVY boos from this English crowd- the Supreme Champion quickly finds herself being spun into the corner by O'Connor, then, shortly thereafter, peppered with heavy body shots of all shapes and sizes. Jabs, hooks, short uppercuts! You name it, O'Connor's throwing it.

Mark Sanction:
“Jesus Christ! Dave O'Connor is going to town on Albion Gale like her stomach is a speedbag!”

Matt Steel:
"Yes! Yes he is!"

All of a sudden, the Etihad faithful begin to cheer. And it should click with Dave exactly why, but it doesn't. He's feeling the fury, Albion's reeling, and Alissa's cheering him on from the outside. All is right in the world. Until it isn't. Dave hears the footsteps getting faster from across the ring; by the time he registers it, they've stopped; O'Connor's head begins to turn around just in time to see Jace Albright flying through the air! The "Dark Horse of XWA" plants both feet firmly against the spine of Dave O'Connor to deliver a heavy Corner Dropkick with "Maximum Thrust", sandwiching Dave and Albion in the corner of the ring, and inadvertently causing the two to butt heads! Jace scurries away on all fours, and the crowd explodes in an excited frenzy as a dazed O'Connor collapses onto his back, and Albion stumbles out of the corner, clutching at her forehead, not quite tripping over Dave's prone form. Jace has got one shot to turn this thing back into a triple threat; he'd better make it count. He lunges back to his feet like he's just heard the blast of a starting gun, and sprints back toward the now-empty corner of the ring; springing up onto the second rope, Jace leaps blindly, yet, somehow, with pin-point accuracy, and twists in mid-air, grabbing Albion's head in a three-quarter Facelock as he floats over, bringing her jaw down on his shoulder, kicking his feet out underneath him and simultaneously delivering a Stunner to Albion and a Diving Leg Drop to Dave! Albion's head snaps back as Jace delivers the modified version of Different Frequencies- or, as this crowd recognizes it on the 1-year anniversary of Emery Layton's final match, the Prikasa- he's on her before she even fully hits the mat, hooking the leg as he cinches in a deep cover! Jack Tickles emerges from just out of frame to count the first pin attempt of the match, and it's a doozy! "One! Two!" No! Albion Gale with an emphatic kickout! Albright is undeterred, as he dives straight onto O'Connor's chest with a Splash into the Lateral Press! Jack is still in position to count: "One!" No! Dave kicks out hard and fast, showing he's got plenty of gas in the tank!

Matt Steel:
"Stubborn little fucker!"

Mark Sanction:
“Jace with the Prikasa, and I'd say somewhere Emery Layton is smiling, but I don't think she's ever stopped.”

Matt Steel:
"I wouldn't be if I were her. He didn't win with it!"

Like Ethan Cross the year before him- who stands at ringside, applauding his protege and shouting advice- Jace moves like this is his last opportunity; grabbing "The Maniac" by the head, Jace yanks him into a doubled-over position and quickly grabs a hold of both of Dave's arms in a double underhook. With a gravelly roar, Jace musters all of his strength to lift and throw Dave over his head, returning the favour for that ungodly Biel earlier by delivering a Release Butterfly Suplex that sends O'Connor crashing to the canvas again! Dave lands hard, but remains stalwart, quickly rising to all-fours. Jace takes off into the ropes, when Alissa's voice rings out from the other side of the ring: "He's comin' from ya left!" Dave looks up and sees Albright on the rebound; thinking quickly, Dave tucks his head, avoiding an oncoming kick from "The One to Watch", and reaches out to sweep the balancing leg of Albright, knocking him down onto his back! Dave pushes himself up to his feet, staring down at Albright with cold contempt, but now it's Albion bursting into action as she rises to her feet behind her challenger and lunges at him, leaping up onto Dave's back, as, with an arm and a leg, she hooks the same arms Dave was just thrown by into a Crucifix and pulls "The Maniac" backwards, dragging him down onto his shoulders in a pinning predicament! And again, Jack is at the ready, counting: "One! Tw-" Kickout! Albion recovers to her knees, but not as quickly as Dave recovers to his feet, and she's struck across the chest- CRACK- by a debilitating round kick from Dave O'Connor! As Albion's body absorbs the shock, Dave turns his cold, Irish eyes to the other challenger, Jace Albright, who is also on his knees. A cold, sadistic smile comes across Dave's face, as he kicks Jace right in the center of his stupid vest, watching it cave in around the point of impact with a sense of satisfaction. He turns, and blisters Albion with another round kick, then turns and waylays Albright with another.

Matt Steel:
"I think we might witness the first ever spontaneous human implosion tonight on live Pay-Per-View."

Mark Sanction:
“Dave O'Connor is laying waste to both of his opponents here with vicious kicks!”

Back and forth "The Maniac" goes, kicking Jace Albright and Albion Gale in rapid succession, lighting up both of his opponents' chests with scintillating round kicks until one of them can take no more; Jace ducks down, and O'Connor's foot flies astray; with a burst of furious adrenaline, "Starlight" rises from the depths of discomfort, throwing himself into a spin and unloading with a solebutt, burying his boot into Dave's breadbasket (or mid-section, for those of you who complained). Jace clutches at his chest with a single, clawing hand, hissing in pain, as Dave begins to right himself. Jace follows with a second solebutt, and this one doubles the Bostonian over. Catching the gaze of the Supreme Champion, there's a brief moment of silent communication and agreement. Albion gives him the nod, then fights to her feet. With both Gale and Albright staring down a heaving O'Connor, it's easy to presume what comes next, but that doesn't make it hurt any less. Champion and Challenger reach out, each grabbing a hold of one of Dave's wrists, then reel him in, hooking those arms around the back of their necks, and, together, hoisting O'Connor up and delivering him to the mat with a mighty Vertical Suplex! CRASH! Dave sits up as he writhes in pain from being driven into the mat by the might of both of his opponents, while Alissa curses up a storm on the outside. Seiji, for the first time, seems to be happy with this turn of events, as he applauds the double team maneuver; perhaps just satisfied with seeing Dave get his. Another look, and a nod between Albion and Jace, and the two are off into opposite ropes. Champion and Challenger rebound simultaneously; closing in on "The Maniac", the two look to deliver stereo PK's, sandwiching O'Connor, but Dave has other plans, and quickly lays back down, causing both Jace and Albion to accidentally kick each other's shins with a sickening [/b]CRACK. Albion quickly drops, catching herself on the middle rope with one hand while the other clutches at her ankle; Jace also hisses in pain, but the kickpad hiding underneath his pant leg has clearly offered "Starlight" a bit more protection here. Dave rolls to the side and begins climbing back to his feet with the assistance of the ropes in the corner, while Alissa laughs and applauds. Jace keeps his footing, and moves in to meet the recovering O'Connor, lighting up Dave's chest with a fierce Knife-edged Chop. Another CRACK! The crowd WOOs in response. Meanwhile, unnoticed by Jace, Gale rolls to the outside to catch her breath. This fight is only just beginning.

Mark Sanction:
“And wisely, the champ rolls... rolls to the outside as Albright catches Dave O'Connor with a stinger!”

Matt Steel:
"Something tells me a chop to the chest isn't gonna cut it against "The Maniac", Sanction."

Mark Sanction:
“Think again! O'Connor's on the move!”

Dave stumbles away from Albright, startled by the sharp impact of his smaller opponent's strike; Jace pursues him to dish out a second one, which echoes throughout the Etihad Stadium with a sharp SMACK! O'Connor turns toward Jace this time, who lays in a third chop (and a woo from the crowd!) for good measure, then grabs "The Maniac" by the wrist, wrenching it and attempting to send him off into the ropes with an Irish Whip, but Dave plants his heel into the ground, reverses the momentum, and yanks Albright back toward him, slamming his own head into his opponent's cranium with a heavy THUNK. Jace nearly collapses on the spot, but Dave maintains wrist control and yanks the "Dark Horse of XWA" back to his feet, pulling him forward into a front waistlock. With Jace wrapped in his arms, Dave checks over his shoulder once to see Albion rolling back into the ring, and quickly changes direction; he braces, and then throws Albright backwards over his head, directly into Albion with a release Belly-to-Belly Suplex- but Gale sees it coming and catches the airborne Albright, who instinctively wraps his legs around her shoulders; as Gale tries to throw him off, in position for something like a Ganso Bomb, Jace manages to startle both Dave and Albion as he sends her tumbling with a Hurricanrana! Dazed, Albion rolls out to the apron to get her bearings back as Jace rolls back to his feet and rushes in to try and take advantage of Dave's bewilderment. BAM! Only fools rush in. Jace gets clocked by a Spinning Back Elbow, courtesy of the Bostonian, very briefly leaving his opponent out and groggy on his feet. Determined not to be made a fool of again, O'Connor advances on Albright and wraps him up in another waistlock, before dragging him into position; a quick shoulder check later, and Jace is flying through the air again! But this time, there's nobody to catch him on the other side, and Jace's body slams into the corner turnbuckles courtesy of an Overhead Release Belly-to-Belly Suplex from Dave O'Connor! Jace's body drops as his momentum is killed by the turnbuckle pads, and the New York City boy lands on his neck with an uncomfortable THUD. There are some gasps of bewilderment as Jace gets tossed, then promptly lands like a ragdoll, followed by a steady stream of boos from the crowd as Dave holds both arms out at his sides for a moment, taking it in.

Matt Steel:
"Okay, even I found that a little bit uncomfortable."

Mark Sanction:
“Dave O'Connor could have broken Jace Albright's neck! Jesus Christ”

While Alissa cheers and applauds her husband from the outside, Dave makes his way into the corner where Jace's body lay upside down and crumpled, and he begins stomping the defenseless Albright making sure the third man in the match is a non-factor in his war with the Supreme Champion for the time being. Stomps turn into chokes, as Dave presses his boot sole against the soft, exposed throat of Albright, pushing him into an even more awkward angle as his head passes under the bottom rope. Like an inevitable cockroach in a New York City apartment, Alissa scuttles into frame, winding up; as Dave releases Albright's head, Alissa absolutely blindsides him with backhanded forearm strike, also known as the Pistol Whip! Jace's head snaps to one side, and with a final shove from Dave's boot soles, he collapses to the floor in a pained heap. Alissa begins laying in some more forearm shots to Jace on the floor, but then, just as quickly high-tails it out of the way as Ethan Cross comes hurtling around the ring with a silent, expressionless fury. Again, he stops to check on Jace, rather than pursue Alissa, though that decision may well be for his own personal well-being, by not getting on Dave's bad side any more than he already has by just being his opponent's cornerman. Back in the ring, or rather, just now exiting the ring from the opposite side, we see Dave O'Connor making his way out onto the apron, trying to sneak up behind "The Duality of Woman". Wrapping his arms around her mid-section with a Waistlock, "The Maniac" looks like he's about to attempt a German Suplex either onto, or off of the Apron, but Albion fights him off with a desperate back elbow strike. A second, and then a third follow, forcing O'Connor to give up his grip, and the Indiana native promptly whips around and blisters him with a forearm strike across the cheekbone! Dave answers back with one of his own, and thus begins a back and forth on the apron! Forearm after forearm, one for Albion, one for Dave! Realizing she may need to take a risk to beat Dave in a straight up striking battle, Albion takes a risk and lets go of the top rope to swing for the fences with both hands; forearms transition into punches, and Dave follows suit, as the two carry on absolutely hammering on each other, all while teetering inches from a significant drop to the floor below!

Mark Sanction:
“Albion and Dave are bangin' away on the apron, and something's got to give! One of these two may have a very unpleasant fall in the near future!”

Matt Steel:
"Bangin' away? Mark, I know we're on pay-per-view, but we're not on that kind of pay-per-view!"

At any other time, in any other environment, Dave O'Connor would be, and frankly, should be dominating a striking mixup like this, but his inexperience in battling on the apron coupled with an inability to mix in footwork proves to be his downfall here, as Albion begins hitting shot after shot with diminishing returns from the former MMA fighter! Albion finally throws out one more forearm for good measure, nearly knocking O'Connor off of the apron, before grabbing him by the head, hooking his arm around her neck, and hoisting "The Maniac" up off of his feet... over her head... and down, as the two plummet through the air, the Vertical Suplex ending on the thinly-padded ring floor with a sickening SPLAT! Albion and Dave both lay on the floor, writhing- it's hard to say who got the worst of that exchange. One thing is for sure, however, and that's that this is the first time in the match that all three competitors have been down. With Jace on the opposite side of the ring, being tended to by Ethan, and Albion and Dave laying in an entangled pile of bodily pain, with Seiji and Alissa staring burning holes in the other any time either of them try to tend to the other... we're at the first stalemate since the match began. Because of the triple threat stipulation, there are no count-outs to be had, meaning the capacity crowd in Manchester England are going to have to either wait, or do their best to rouse the combatants to their feet. So, that they do... beginning a... rather... unique triple-chant of: "Starlight! Alby! Fuck Dave! WHOOP-WHOOP!"

Mark Sanction:
“Good God! Albion Gale and Dave O'Connor just crashed to the floor, I don't know who got the worst of that one!”

Matt Steel:
“Jace Albright, by not being involved, because Dave O'Connor killed him several minutes ago during this broadcast.”

That chant carries on for a good minute or so, dying down as Albion and Dave begin to rouse at roughly the same time. As each competitor- Champion and Challenger- begin to rise up to all fours, Alissa and Seiji shout encouragement to their respective clients from their accepted distance. The "Duality of Woman" takes notice of Dave's proximity, as "The Maniac" does hers, the bitter rivals closing the distance as they crawl over to one another and engage in- essentially- a clinch from a kneeling position, trading slow, measured shots, almost like a hockey fight at half-speed as they fight their way to their feet against one another. Dave stares into his opponent's eyes with cold, callous anger, while Albion, with now-dried blood flowing from her nose, down her mouth and chin, stares into Dave's eyes with a contrasting, burning hatred. Both continue punishing one another with short haymakers.

Mark Sanction:
“Back and forth, these two hate each other!”

"LOOK OUT!" Seiji's voice snaps both competitors out of their hateful daze; they look up just in time to see Jace Albright- who's just rolled in and run across the ring- springing up onto the middle rope, and launching himself over the adjacent top rope as he bears down toward the pair with a Triangle Plancha- BAM! In a sight never witnessed before, and likely never to be witnessed again, Dave and Albion, at once, turn their attention to the airborne "Dark Horse of XWA" and simultaneously drill him out of mid-air with stereo, desperation superkicks! Jace's body crumples once more as he's temporarily relieved of his consciousness courtesy of Dave O'Connor and Albion Gale! The crowd forgets themselves for a moment and gives the counter a HUGE POP, but the accompanying chorus of "HOLY SHIT" goes utterly ignored by O'Connor and Gale alike, as, the moment the threat of Albright is dealt with, the Champion and Challenger go right back to pummeling one another, resuming that collar and elbow tie to deliver rapid-fire, full-force haymakers into the other's skull! Shot after shot after shot... but it's not to Gale's advantage, anymore. With his feet firmly underneath him, and without a limited range of mobility... Dave O'Connor's extensive striking background slowly but surely begins to overshadow the Supreme Champion's pure tenacity and audacity. A gloved fist careens across Gale's jaw, knocking her back and out of their tie-up. Albion returns one with equal fervor, but it's met with another, and another, and another... until, finally, Albion swings and misses, collapsing to all-fours. Dave clutches at his head for a moment; he's sure he's going to have a minimum of one black eye in the morning... but it'll be worth it with that Supreme Championship around his waist. With that end goal in mind, Dave wastes no time in taking the fight to Albion and keeping the pace going, lifting the Champion back to her feet and scooping her up into a Tombstone position. Things go from looking bad to looking a lot worse as he swims one arm between her legs and clasps his hands together, looking to deliver a Cradle Tombstone on the floor, but Albion begins to fight back, kicking her legs in desperation, trying to throw her body weight to the side... and it works, as Albion effectively cartwheels, switching positions with Dave as she lands on her feet, holding him up for a Tombstone! But that isn't what she has in mind. Currently, that's Dave O'Connor's knees, as, out of desperation, he lands a knee to the head to try and escape this situation, but it's not enough; Albion turns toward the outside corner of the ring then takes off running, driving Dave's back into the steel post on the outside! Dave drops from Albion's shoulders and lands in a heap of limbs on the ring floor; Seiji manages to keep Alissa at bay as Albion lays a few hard stomps into the face and chest of the wounded O'Connor for good measure.

Mark Sanction:
“I don't know how, but somehow, Gale avoided certain doom just now.”

Matt Steel:
“By knowing her enemy and knowing exactly how to get out of that situation. I'll give her credit, that counter was well-timed, and just as a brutal as anything Dave's done to either her or Jace in this match.”

Mark Sanction:
“I don't know if anything either of them do to Jace for the rest of this match will be as brutal as that double Superkick. Jace hasn't moved.”

Matt Steel:
“Wait a minute... what's...”

What happens next is widely considered to be very unlike the Supreme Champion, but after enduring the O'Connors' constant torment, it's seen as more of an inevitability; with Dave and Jace both down, and her rival in a pile at her feet, Albion ducks down, pulls the ring skirt aside, and begins to search for plunder. It doesn't take her long to find some; from under the ring, the "Duality of Woman" emerges with a steel chair in hand. Turning her furious, burning gaze upon "The Maniac", Albion watches as Dave climbs up to to one knee, bracing off of the ringpost he'd just been driven into in an attempt to get his wits about him. And while Seiji and Ethan manage to passively keep Alissa from rushing the Supreme Champion, the one thing they aren't able to keep her is quiet: "Watch out, she's got a damn chair!" "The Maniac" looks up just as Gale takes aim, managing to roll out of the way as Albion swings the chair, hard as she can, right into the place where her challenger's head had been, instead, slamming it directly into the ring post! The clash of metal-on-metal in her bare hands is enough to send a small amount of shock through Gale, and it takes a moment for her to get righted; when she turns around, O'Connor is ready, and he lunges at the Indiana Native looking for a Spear, only to get a steel chair wrapped around his head as he charges forward! Albion decks him with the side-on swing, blasting O'Connor right on the top of the skull; the chair leaves her hands as it makes contact, striking Dave on the top of the head and partially unfolding, leaving it hanging around his neck in between the seat and the back as Dave collapses to the floor. For the second time in a few short minutes, the crowd is left chorusing two words in utter disbelief: "HOLY SHIT!"

Matt Steel:
“We now have two participants guilty of attempted murder.”

Mark Sanction:
“Jesus Christ, Albion!”

Any other time, this would be the exact moment Albion would choose to toss Dave O'Connor in the ring and bring it home. Either with White Noise, or with Purple Rain from the top rope. But this match has an X-factor. That third participant. And while Jace Albright may have been decimated earlier with a synchronized Blazing Kick, that was then, and this is now. And right now... Jace is still down on the ground, albeit, up to all fours, and looking like he might actually know where he is at this moment in time. That's enough reason to pump the brakes on finishing Dave, and see to it that the "Dark Horse of XWA" is out of the picture long enough for Albion to have her revenge. Then, and only then, can she set her sights fully on retaining the Supreme Championship. Trudging over to the 2019 "One to Watch", Albion reaches through her challenger's mile-long mane to grab a firm hold of his head, and begins lifting the New York City boy to his feet.... only to get a blast of something BLINDINGLY orange straight into the eyes! Albion whips around, eyes clearly burning as she tries to wipe the orange liquid out of them. From behind the nearby ring steps, Ethan Cross slowly rises up, as if ascending in an elevator while holding an open can of Irn Bru. Evidently, what Albright just sprayed into the champion's face. Jace doesn't waste any time following up on the surprise attack, laying in a couple of forearms to the lower back before spinning Albion around and grabbing her in a front facelock. Albright frantically looks around, spots the steel steps, and then leaps up, stepping up off of them and whirling around his opponent's body, finally plummeting to the floor below, spiking Gale on her head with a Tornado DDT! And what a Glorious Dawn it would be for Albright to wake up as Champion after that maneuver! Hurriedly, Albright lifts Gale by her head- rapidly becoming sticky between the blood and soda- and tosses her into the ring under the bottom rope. Dragging her to the ring's center, Jace checks to make sure there's no Alissa to grab his feet- Ethan's made sure of that on the outside-, then runs the ropes looking to hit something big... and he does, but not to Gale; as Dave O'Connor attempts to get back into the ring, Jace Albright meets him where he stands, diving through the middle rope and using his own body as a projectile to take down "The Maniac" with a blistering Tope Suicida!

Matt Steel:
“Holy fuck, Jace just turned his body into a human missile!”

Mark Sanction:
“That was one hell of a Suicide Dive by Albright, and he got all of it!”

Matt Steel:
“I've never seen someone go from a perfect zero to a perfect ten this quickly!”

Albright scrambles back to his feet and rushes into the ring, running the ropes again as Albion manages to sit up, glassy-eyed. Seiji shouts for her to duck, but nothing gets through except the boot of Albright- WHAM- as Jace nails the "Duality of Woman" with a Penalty Kick, knocking her flat on her back! As his momentum comes to a halt, Jace turns ninety degrees, catapulting himself into a backflip as he crashes down across the chest of Albion with a Standing Moonsault! Albright lands in perfect position for a cover, and for the first time in god knows how long, Jack Tickles makes his presence known as he slides gracefully into frame and begins a count: "One! Two..."

Mark Sanction:
“Moonsault, into the cover!”

And a ... kickout by the Champion! Jace pauses just long enough to confirm the count with the official, before popping back up to his feet and going straight back to the attack. With Dave O'Connor down for an indefinite, but most-likely-short period of time, all Jace can do is throw everything he has at Albion. He was able to surprise her before with a never-before-seen finishing move, but things have changed since then, and she's almost sure to have that move scouted. Onto something else. Jace grabs Albion by the head, lifting her to her feet as the cheering crowd fuels his adrenaline. Albright knows what’ll really get them cheering, as he promptly bends Gale backwards, spine-first, over his knee. Quick as a flash, Jace swims his arm around the back of the Supreme Champion’s head, applying a low angle front facelock, then snaps her up... and brings her right back down again, yanking her violently out of that vertical base and dropping her skull-first with a DDT! The Starlight Drive, to be exact! "Starlight" himself floats gracefully over, rolling into a cover as Jack Tickles drops to count the pin! "One! Tw-"

Mark Sanction:
“STARLIGHT DRIVE!”

Matt Steel:
“Wait a minute!”

The pin is broken up rather suddenly, as, from the outside, Dave O'Connor grabs the leg of Albion and hurls her from the ring! Albion lands on the thinly-padded floor with a dull thud It takes several seconds for Jace to register what exactly just happened, but once he does, the "One to Watch" looks absolutely furious. Dave shouts from outside the ring: "She's mine, asshole! You don't get to fuckin’ pin her!"

Mark Sanction:
“Did... did Dave O'Connor just save Albion Gale!?”

Matt Steel:
“He doesn't want to let Jace pin her! He wants her all for himself!”

On the other side of the ring, silent as a shadow, Alissa O'Connor creeps up onto the ring apron behind Jace as the New York City boy turns to face Dave, at the same time that the referee slides out of the ring to check on Gale, making sure she hasn't landed on her head or otherwise been injured. From his vantage point on the floor, Dave begins challenging Albright to come at him. "You lookin at this moment I've been workin for for months? Come and take it, you schiesty fuckin no-good-ass gump!" Clenching his fists, Jace rises to his feet and begins talking some smack of his own, only to realize he doesn't see someone. Alissa. That's when he hears the first footstep, and quickly glances over his shoulder. Without hesitation, Jace vaults up high, splitting his legs in mid-air as he leapfrogs over the oncoming "Red-Haired Goddess" and lands on his feet; instinctively, Alissa ducks under the leapfrog by Albright, only to have picked up so much speed she's unable to straighten up to hit the ropes, and instead dives straight through to the outside, where, thankfully, she's caught by a stunned Dave O'Connor! Jace's eyes widen as he watches Ethan Cross come barreling around the corner of the ring, clearly fed up with the O'Connors' cheating tactics, and it's unfortunate for Cross that that's where Albright's vision goes, because by following it, both Dave and Alissa are able to see "The Cutting Edge" coming; Alissa quickly scatters out of the way as Dave lunges forward and catches Ethan square on the jaw with a right cross that drops him to the floor like a sack of potatoes, earning himself a heavy chorus of boos.

Matt Steel:
“Thanks for coming, Ethan! You can go back to Canada now!”

Mark Sanction:
“But did he buy Jace Albright time?”

From the opposite corner, Seiji warily backs off as Alissa locks eyes with him again, evidently considering doing the same right up until the moment Ethan's carcass hit the floor. Jace can't focus on that now, and he isn't; courtesy of Ethan's distraction, the "Dark Horse of XWA" begins to run the ropes, until Dave and Alissa both turn to face him and promptly part like the red sea, looking to take the water out of the pool for Jace's second attempt at a Tope Suicida, but the joke's on them as Albright puts his hands on the top rope and promptly stops the momentum! As the two reconvene, Jace promptly squats down, and, again, vaults into the air, this time with the assistance of the ropes, but, once more, both O'Connors duck out of the way to avoid the perceived Plancha. Once more, it's a fakeout, as Jace vaults over the top rope, only to land on his feet on the apron. As Dave and Alissa scatter to opposite corners of the ring on the outside, Jace doesn't see Alissa sliding the steel chair across the floor that Albion had used to batter Dave earlier. As Jace gets a good run off of the apron, the "One to Watch" dives from his elevated platform, throwing caution to the wind as he descends upon Dave with a Crossbody, only to get swatted out of the air like an insect as Dave puts his full body behind a swinging motion, smashing Jace in mid-air with the steel chair! The crowd briefly forget themselves and begin to cheer for the insane chairshot, but quickly return to booing once they remember who was on the delivering end, and who was on the receiving end.

Mark Sanction:
“Ohmygod!”

Matt Steel:
“I think some of him just landed on me!”

Jace's body collapses to the floor yet again as the O'Connors stand tall over his aching form. But this time, there's no laughing. Instead, Dave drops the chair to the floor, and squats down into a lunge position. Preparing for an explosive charge, as, shaking and shuddering, a pain-wracked Albright begins to climb to his feet, Dave puts all of the pressure on his back leg. As soon as Albright makes it even halfway to his feet, "The Maniac" pushes off, sprinting toward his oblivious adversary. This would be Jace's final chance; if Albright chose to get in the way of Dave's fight with Albion again, it would be his undoing. Jace turns around, dazed and confused, and it doesn't look as if that's going to change any time soon; there's no time to react, only absorb, as O'Connor demolishes that vertical base with a running knee to the head! The concussive strike floors Albright, who spins before falling to the floor in a heap, not even able to break his fall with his hands. The thud of flesh on vinyl is dull and uncomfortable, but Dave isn't done with him. Dropping to a knee, the Bostonian lifts Albright by the hair into a seated position, and braces the back of his bright-eyed, bushy-haired against the butt of his knee. Still holding Jace by the hair with one clawed hand, O'Connor raises his other arm above his head, crooks his arm, then slams the point of his elbow down onto Jace's forehead. Bludgeoning the young up-and-comer with a 12-6 elbow! Up, and then down again. Up, and then down. Raised, and then dropped; Dave slams elbow after elbow into the forehead of Albright, slowly, but surely digging at the flesh until it tears open, and blood begins to seep down in between Jace's eyes, around his nose, and into his mouth. Only then does O'Connor relent, dropping the bleeding, twitching, supposed "One to Watch" to the floor while Alissa cheers him on from behind.

Mark Sanction:
“Enough is enough, Dave! Albright could have a concussion, or worse!”

Matt Steel:
“That's what happens when you get in between Dave O'Connor and Albion Gale.”

Mark Sanction:
“That does not justify what we just witnessed!”

Matt Steel:
“I never said I liked it, Sanction! That's a human being!”

With Albright disposed of, the title-chasing, moment-ruining, Boston-born, Irish fighting machine turns his eyes to the one thing he's been laser focused on since two months before the bell rang at the beginning of this match. Albion Gale, who, with Seiji Shimuzu's assistance, and the help of the ring post, is steadily making her way to her feet, becoming aware of the situation at hand. She's at the opposite corner of the ring from where Dave stands, but the Bostonian doesn't plan on leaving it that way for long. Directing Alissa- that's a change of pace- pointing to the steel chair, and then to Albright. "If he moves, fuck him up," Dave directs, before beginning to walk, then jog, then finally sprint around the ring towards Gale! Just as Seiji turns to walk away, Dave comes whipping around the corner, pushes off of one foot, cocks his fist back, aaaaaand.... no! the Supreme Champion catches the incoming Superman punch! As soon as Dave touches earth, Albion's wrenching that arm, twisting her body, and then... [/b]BAM! A backwards hook kick connects... but not with Dave's face; instead, Albion's heel slams directly into the ring post! Having ducked just in the nick of time, Dave lifts his head back up, reaches down to grab her extended leg by the ankle, yanking it backwards, then promptly tugs the arm Albion has control of to pull her own wrist through her legs, pumphandle style! Albion yells in pain as she's caught in Dave's nameless, impromptu submission hold, but she doesn't stay there long. Desperate, quite possibly to a fault, the "Duality of Woman" begins swinging her head, slamming the back of her skull into O'Connor's chest with hard headbutts. These don't have much of an effect, but then enable her to yank her arm free, and when she does, Albion straightens up and tosses her head back one more time with a rear headbutt that catches her challenger right on the chin! The strike dazes the Supreme Champion, but it also dazes her opponent, who drops her leg. With both feet under her- though not firmly- it doesn't take much for Albion to find the wherewithal to backpedal, shoving Dave spine-first into the edge of the ring! The unmistakeable thud of flesh and bone colliding with pine boards fills the air as O'Connor's lumbar meets the hardest part of the ring. Both Gale, and "The Maniac" promptly drop to the floor; Dave lands on all fours, though it quickly becomes three-fourths as he cradles his lower back, while Gale manages to keep from falling any lower than her knees.

Mark Sanction:
“Gale managing to escape the unique predicament O'Connor just put her in, there."

Matt Steel:
“Yeah, by introducing Dave to XWA's discount Chiropractor.”

Re: XWA Legends XX MAIN EVENT: Gale vs. Albright vs. O'Connor - SUPREME XWA CHAMPIONSHIP! 3-WAY ELIMINATION MATCH!

Postby Rob Chapman » Thu Dec 12, 2019 2:58 am

Seeing her husband in trouble, Alissa comes barreling around the ring with a steel chair in hand, taking aim at Gale just as she reaches her feet, but the Evansville, Indiana native manages to duck the incoming shot; the result is the steel chair striking the bottom rope and bouncing back, directly into the face of "The Madman's Wife"! Alissa is stunned as the attack backfires- quite literally- and she drops the chair, struggling to maintain her equilibrium. As an annoyed Albion ascends to her feet, that struggle becomes an outright failure, as, finally in a position to do something about the woman behind her harasser, Albion shouts, then unloads on Alissa with a Blazing hot Superkick that catches Alissa flush across the jaw! Albion musters a smile in spite of the pain her entire body is in from what has been an extremely chaotic contest, feeling immensely gratified by that act of furious catharsis. With Alissa out of the way, Albion goes to hop up onto the apron to get back in the ring, only for her leg to falter. Gale lets out a startled yell, which brings Seiji back to the forefront, rushing over to check on his tag team partner, or rather- in tonight's case- client. Shimuzu's words, however, ring hollow in her ears; she nods where appropriate, but turns her eyes to her opponents to see if anybody involved in this match has spotted her predicament; while it looks like the coast is clear, she spots Dave O'Connor already recovering to his feet, albeit with his back turned. Albion takes another look around, realizing Jace is nowhere to be seen. She'll worry about that in a moment. Hopping down from the apron, Albion clubs her rising rival across the back several times, slowing his ascent, though, ultimately, not stopping it, as the brash Bostonian fires back at Albion with frantic elbows, his focus entirely on survival at this point! Dave gets off one more elbow strike, and it lands flush between the eyes of Gale, who stumbles backwards toward the ring. Having seen enough, Seiji steps in to confront O'Connor... who hears approaching footsteps and turns, instinctively ducking out of the way just as Ethan Cross comes running at him a second time, narrowly avoiding a Dropkick that accidentally lays out Seiji! Neither Dave, nor Albion hear the shuffling of... metal? Nor do they hear the footsteps as someone enters the ring. As Cross and Shimuzu fall to the floor, Dave begins taking turns stomping on each of them. This rapidly gets the attenion of Gale, who lays into O'Connor with a hard Roundhouse Kick to the ribs, only for Dave to fire on Albion with a Back Kick! The challenger's foot buries itself in the abdomen of the Champion, who gets launched backwards into the apron and promptly drops to the floor. Just as Dave turns to face her, however, he sees something else entirely coming at him; it's Jace Albright, and he's diving out of the ring with something wrapped around his arm- WHAM! Steel meets flesh as Albright's forearm, wrapped in a steel chain, collides with Dave's face courtesy of a FURIOUS Elbow Suicida! Both men crash to the floor, and quite literally EVERYONE involved in this match, either as a wrestler, or a cornerman, is now down outside the ring!

Matt Steel:
“Holy SHIT!”

Mark Sanction:
“Good god! Jace Albright with an Elbow Suicida... and is that a steel chain!?”

Matt Steel:
“That was fucking AWESOME!”

Jace doesn't stay down long, as, despite being in an overwhelming amount of pain, the "Dark Horse of XWA" is, at this point, furious, and, more than anything, sick and tired of being overlooked and disregarded by Dave O'Connor in the main event of XWA Legends. Rising to his knees, Albright scuttles over to Dave, and... with a chain still wrapped all around his elbow, his forearm, and his closed fist, begins to rain steel-reinforced punches down across the rattled skull of his opponent! Painful shot after painful shot, Jace is paying Dave back in spades for those brutal elbow strikes, earlier in the match, that have left his face a bloody mess! It doesn't take nearly as many shots from Albright- thanks in no small part to that chain- to bust open O'Connor just above his eye, drawing blood from the third and final combatant in what has been a chaotic, visceral, and in some cases, highly personal war, going above and beyond the XWA Supreme Championship. But for Albright- who still hasn't stopped throwing punches- it's not about more than the title. It's about that title, exactly. About the honour of holding it, about the year of work he's put in to get to this point, and about the respect that carrying the title of XWA Supremacy commands. While he’s earned the respect of his fellow competitors, and of the XWA faithful, from the Battlezone all the way to Manchester, England, here and now, it’s respect he's been flat out denied by management, and by some of the legends of this business; Mark Storey, Danny Diamond, Sean Young, and even one of his trainers, Rob Chapman, to name a few. It’s that respect that he intends to earn. By force, if necessary. And, tonight, it has been necessary. The realization has dawned on young Albright that while his win over Albion Gale at XWA On A Pole may not have been a fluke, that "1:57" pinfall time he's been touting was. With one more, very measured knuckle arrow in between the eyes of Dave O'Connor, with blood seeping through his gritted teeth, the "Dark Horse of XWA" picks O'Connor up by the head and throws him aggressively into the ring under the bottom rope. Sliding in after "The Maniac", Albright runs the ropes and rebounds back, promptly delivering a chain-assisted Elbow Drop to the sternum of the Bostonian. Jace looks around and spots Jack Tickles on the outside, before promptly shouting at him to get back in the ring. With a tight hook of the leg, Jace covers O'Connor, back-to-belly, and waits for the referee to count. XWA's senior official slides into the ring and very hastily gets to counting: "One! Two! T-" No! Dave manages to kick free of Jace's grasp and get the shoulder up with a very punch-drunk, instinctive kickout! The crowd boos, but quickly returns to cheering for the underdog, Albright, as he continues taking it to O’Connor!

Mark Sanction:
“And a kickout! That was a near-fall for Jace Albright, ”

Matt Steel:
“That was fucking AWESOME!”

Unlike earlier, Jace doesn't check with the official to confirm that count. If it was two, then it was two, and Jace needs to do more. Grabbing Dave by the head once more, Jace pulls Dave O'Connor to his feet- to where he can look directly into the eyes of "The Maniac"- and then strike him hard and fast; the unchained hand wraps around the back of Dave's head, holding him close, as, with his othe hand, Jace begins unloading with even more punches! Rapid body shots- short uppercuts to be exact- are accented with that unforgiving steel chain as Albright absolutely lays into O'Connor, letting out all of the frustration built up over the last eight months in a single, violent display of merciless anger. This is the Jace Albright we saw hints of against Jasin Smith and the Coven. Who thanked Smith Jones for helping him to unlock his mean streak. Who called out Danny Diamond. This is the man who's innocence has been lost, and Dave O'Connor is the man on the receiving end of the resulting beating. One more shot to the ribs leaves the Bostonian in perfect position for Jace to hook his own head under his opponent's arm, and apply a Front Waistlock. Given the punches he's been dishing out, what comes next is a bit of a surprise, as he throws his heavier opponent over his head, holding on tight to deliver them with a Northern Lights Suplex, bridging into a pin! Dave's feet are near the ropes, but they're not kicking anymore. Not after having his guts pureed by Albright's fist. Jack Tickles is in place, and drops to count the pin...

Mark Sanction:
“Northern Lights Suplex, into the bridge!”

Matt Steel:
“Wait a minute!”

On the outside, Alissa O'Connor, having somewhat recovered from Albion nearly sending her head into the cheap seats with a Blazing Kick, makes a dive toward the ring, trying to pull her husband out of his pinning predicament, but just as she's about to leap, she's grabbed by both Ethan Cross and Seiji Shimuzu! Jack counts: "One! Two! Thr-" No! At the last second, Dave musters up the energy to kick out! With Dave still in the match, Seiji promptly returns to Albion's side, checking on the Supreme Champion whilst her opponents battle it out in the ring. Meanwhile, Ethan Cross gets into a battle of his own, as he and Alissa begin exchanging hands in a brawl that takes them all around the ringside area!

Matt Steel:
"Look at that! Dave kicks out, unassisted!”

Mark Sanction:
“It's almost like you were worried for a minute, if I didn't know better.”

Matt Steel:
"But you do know better.”

This is it. Jace's chance to take care of Dave O'Connor. With Albion out of the ring, and Alyssa distracted by his cornerman, Jace has to shoot his shot. Pulling "The Maniac" to the center of the ring, Jace wraps both arms around his midsection in a Rear Waistlock, and lets out an exhausted yelp as he somehow deadlifts the two-hundred-eighteen-pounder right back up to his feet! Wrapping one of Dave's arms around the back of his head, Jace reaches down and hooks Dave's inside leg. With a mighty heave followed by another gravelly roar, Jace powers the Bostonian up and throws him clear over his head, flipping O'Connor onto his stomach with an Inverted Exploder Suplex! Dave hits the canvas with a loud CRASH, followed by a wheeze, as the impact knocks the breath out of his body. And Jace Albright, at one-hundred-eighty-three pounds of aching, exhausted, pure heart, once again fights back to his feet, and gets in position behind his opponent, squatting down low as he looks for the move he believes will put O'Connor away for good. The Shining. Dave begins to amble up to his feet, barely aware of where he is or what's happening. It's time.

Mark Sanction:
“And Jace, looking to finish off O'Connor with The Shining!”

Matt Steel:
"Oh fuck no, FUCK NO!”

... until it isn't. The sound of footsteps entering the ring pulls Jace out of his zone; "Starlight" turns his head to see Albion Gale re-entering the fray, but he doesn't have time to turn his whole body around before the "Duality of Woman" grabs him in a Rear Waistlock; as he's hoisted up, the New Yorker wisely kicks his legs back, hooking them under Albion's arms, then throws his weight forward, rolling Albion onto her back with a Cazadora, or Victory Roll! Jace doesn't go for the pin, however; instead, popping straight up to his feet to meet a risen Dave O'Connor, leaping into the air, then driving both feet into the battered chest of his opponent with a Dropkick; as "The Maniac" is knocked backwards into the ropes, Dave carries his momentum through straight into a backflip, landing across the chest of Gale in a Moonsault! Albright hooks the leg as Jack Tickles drops down to count the cover: "One! Two!" And a WHAM! The pin is broken up as the boot of the rebounding Dave O'Connor slams into Jace's cheek, knocking him onto his back! Jace rolls like he's just been ragdolled, though, notably, Albion's shoulder is now up, as well. Did O'Connor save her from being pinned, or would the Champion still have had the wherewithal to kick out? It's a safe bet she would have, but there's no doubt the O'Connors would hold it over her in the event of a victory. And upon realizing who's standing over her, Albion rolls to her side and quickly gets her feet underneath her again.

Mark Sanction:
“Albion knows exactly where she is, and who's standing over her.”

Matt Steel:
"Yeah, because she knows he's gonna beat her and take the title!”

Mark Sanction:
“You're assuming a lot.”

Dave smirks, satisfied that he’s finally getting what he wants out of this Supreme Title match. Him and Albion, one-on-one. Albright down, and out of the picture. Raising his gloved fists, he beckons for the Champion to come at him. Albion raises her fist in kind; time to put away this thorn in her side and move on with her reign, and with her life. The two circle the ring, like water swirling down a drain-hole, each waiting for the other to make the first move, doing everything in their power to ignore the aching all over. The rapidly-forming welts and bruises, and the blood streaming down their face. Albion, from the nose, and Dave from above his left eye. The scene resembling the final, climactic battle of a 90’s action flick. Just then, Dave’s back leg twitches; the Bostonian fakes low, then swings his foot high; Albion, misreading the kick, goes for a high roundhouse of her own, and the two kicks clash with one another! Flesh and bone meets flesh and bone with a nasty SMACK, and the two quickly retreat, neither wanting to give the other a chance to shoot. They circle around the ring again; Albion hobbling somewhat and favouring the left leg over the right. Dave notices. They begin to circle again; Dave throws a low roundhouse at her right leg, but the “Duality of Woman” checks the kick with a low kick of her own, effectively blocking it. Pain lances up her right leg, but save for a grimace, the Supreme Champion ignores it, and throws a Haymaker at O’Connor to try and keep him from slipping out of her grasp again. Dave sways and dodges the punch instinctively like a well-practiced boxer, but as he leans back in, Albion tries to catch him off guard with a blunt toe kick to the abdomen. The martially trained “Maniac” is able to see it coming, but, unable to back off in time, decides instead to catch the outstretched foot of Gale, holding it in place. He smirks, but that smirk is promptly wiped off his face, as Albion leaps and swings her other foot through the air, catching O’Connor across the back of the head with the toe of her boot! The Enzuigiri connects! Dave stumbles forward as he drops Albion’s foot; he manages not to hit the canvas, but just barely, landing on a knee and catching himself with both hands. Sensing blood in the water, the Supreme Champion rises to her feet and promptly swings her foot into the backside of O’Connor, again and again, to the back, hips, and legs, leading her challenger around the ring in a circle with vicious round kicks!

Mark Sanction:
“And Albion, now! The Supreme Champion just unloading with kicks to whatever part of O'Connor she can hit!”

Matt Steel:
"Fuck, this isn't good!”

A round kick to the back finally succeeds in knocking Dave onto all fours, and still, Albion pursues. A low Teep kick, directly in between the cheeks almost drops Dave flat onto his stomach again, but, still, he manages to keep from going flat on the canvas. Albion’s had enough of Dave O’Connor, and she’s beaten him at his own game. Now it’s time to bet him at hers, too. Grabbing Dave by the back of the head, the Indiana native continues to lay into her challenger, landing some more clubbing blows across the back of his neck to soften him up, before going for his wrist, wrenching it, and sending Dave off into the corner of the ring with an Irish Whip. Dave can only turn to keep from striking the turnbuckle chest first; he spreads his arms wide to hook the ropes as he lands in the corner, trying to spread out the impact as best he can, but like Dave to her over the past several months- peaking at On A Boat- Albion allows him no respite, charging into the corner after him and burying her foot into his chest cavity with an angry Roundhouse Kick, knocking the breath out of her opponent once more. Dave wheezes for breath as Albion continues peppering him with kicks to the chest. Alissa- now free of her brawl with Ethan Cross, who stands alongside Seiji on the outside- shouts at Albion to stop, but the Lord of the Ring-turned-Supreme Champion refuses. That is not how Supremacy is gained, nor is that how it’s retained. After months of abuse, this isn’t just about proving she’s the better wrestler, or even about maintaining Supremacy; this is equally about revenge and catharsis for the man who’s made her life hell. The man who threw she and Seiji into International Waters- attempted murder in any other walk of life- and turned up to work the next week to gloat about it. This is about putting a firm end to the O’Connors’ reign of terror. Kick, after kick after kick, straight to the already-abused chest and stomach of “The Maniac” takes breath after breath out of the Bostonian. It’s at this point that Dave reverts to pure survival instinct, and begins throwing desperate, frantic punches to Albion’s body; rights and lefts, overhand and underhand, straights, jabs, and shovel hooks- BAM- all shut down by one final Roundhouse from the Supreme Champion, clocking her challenger in the head and knocking him down into a seated position. Gale pauses for a brief instant, favouring her aching shin.

Mark Sanction:
“I can't tell if the storm has passed, or if Dave O'Connor's just in the eye of it now.”

Matt Steel:
"I'd say the storm is gimped after throwing all those kicks. There's a reason so many guys wear kick pads, now!”

At this point, Albion’s ready to finish it. She’s dished out all the rapid-fire abuse she can in a short period of time, and bodily exhaustion is beginning to set in. She’s still got Jace Albright to contend with- eventually- and a pinfall over Dave O’Connor may well be academic, but it’s still going to take a big enough move to cover the ex-MMA fighter and counteract those fighting instincts of his. With one last shot to Dave- a straight downward punch to the top of the head, sending a shock through O’Connor’s entire system- Albion picks the two-hundred eighteen-pounder up, first standing him up, then, straight up hoisting him up onto the second rope with a burst of much-needed adrenaline. Dave takes a seat on the top rope, as the “Duality of Woman” throws another shot into the jaw of her opponent- a satisfying Haymaker- that nearly knocks the Bostonian off the top rope, but Albion makes sure he stays put, catching O’Connor’s dead weight and sitting him back up. Albion begins to climb. At this point, Seiji, who, much like her former mentor (and his brother) Kaji, has spent the bulk of this match advising Albion away from high risk moves, and from trying to stand toe-to-toe with Dave in a battle of strikes. But having watched Albion survive the onslaught, and overcome everything Dave O’Connor’s thrown at her from the first ring of the bell, and having watched, often from the background as those high risk moves have carried her from the bottom to the top of the XWA in just two years, Seiji finds himself cheering for Albion. Egging Gale on as she climbs to the top rope, stands, and looks around at the capacity crowd. Everyone familiar with Albion Gale- and really, the last twenty years of wrestling in general- knows what this is a setup to. The Supreme Champion is looking for an Avalanche Frankensteiner.

Matt Steel:
"This is... a very bad position for O'Connor!”

Mark Sanction:
“Yes, yes it is! Albion's gonna take him off the top-”

Dave O’Connor’s in no man’s land- battered, beaten, bruised, and bloodied. Seiji nods his approval. He’s so focused on Albion beating Dave that he doesn’t see the third man in the ring climbing to his feet. Not until it’s too late. As Albion delivers just one more shot to the top of Dave’s head, balancing into position, the rejuvenated “Dark Horse of XWA” kicks things into overdrive, taking off at a dead run. Albright performs an unprecedented vertical leap toward the top rope, all the way up to Albion’s shoulders; there’s no room left on the ropes for him to land on, and that’s fine. He has no intention of it. Drawing both knees up to his chest, Jace grabs the shoulders of Albion, latches on, and pulls back with his entire body weight. Jace and Albion plummet to the canvas below, Jace landing on his back as his knees are driven into Albion’s lumbar! The Supreme Champion lets out a scream that ends as abruptly as it started as she’s drilled with an Avalanche version of the Point of Controversy! As Albion bounces off of his knees and collapses to the canvas in a heap, Jace pulls himself to his feet. He should go for the pin here- Dave O’Connor isn’t familiar with the top rope, and isn’t likely to come flying off of it, but instinct overrides this rookie's knowledge of his opponent. He ignores his conscious in favour of his subconscious, and makes a beeline for the opposite corner; putting on another burst of speed, the “One to Watch” cuts across the ring like a buzzsaw and leaps up to the top again, looking for the Frankensteiner Albion set up for… and finds only hands of stone, as Dave O’Connor, somehow, finds it in himself to cock back and unload with a right hook, plowing right through Albright’s orbital bone and dropping him back into the ring. The freshly-battered Albright lands in the ring on all-fours, trying to remember where he is, and quite possibly who he is, for a brief, head-spinning moment.

Matt Steel:
"That was entirely too close!”

Mark Sanction:
“Jace Albright technically just saved your boy, O'Connor.”

Matt Steel:
"You say that like he didn't try the same thing immediately after taking out the Champion!”

Jace crawls across the ring, going through a mental checklist. Hands working? He flexes his fingers. Check. Feet working? He curls his toes inside of his boots. Check. Crowd cheering? Not particularly. Opponent? Right. Dave O’Connor. That’s why they’re not cheering. Albright groans as he clambers to his feet; oblivious to Dave hopping down from the corner to land standing in the ring. Grabbing the top rope to stay steady, Dave measures the rising Albright. He gave Jace one last opportunity to get out of his way, and he just had to stick his nose in. He just had do. The Cinderella story would end here. Dave’s muscles tighten as he prepares to end the night of “Starlight”... and as Jace turns, Dave takes off at a dead run, clearing the ring in second! Dave, as he does for one move and one move alone, leaves his feet, throwing out that signature Flying Knee! A move that’s awarded him nearly every title in the XWA… but not this one! Thinking Flash-fast, Jace catches the incoming with both hands and throws himself backwards, pancaking his oncoming opponent with a Flapjack! The Bostonian immediately begins clutching at his ribs letting out a breathless groan as a bewildered Jace rises back to his feet. Albion’s still down from that Point of Controversy. He begins to regret not going for the pin, but there’s no time for that now. As Dave climbs to his feet with the aid of the ropes, Jace knows exactly what to do. It’s the maneuver that secured him the pin over Albion Gale in 1:57. A move he’s broken out only once before. Jace takes off into the ropes opposite O’Connor, returning from the ring with all the momentum in the world as he hooks his arm under Dave’s and catapults himself up into a graceful, well-practiced backflip… but as Jace tries to hook the head of “The Maniac” mid-flight, Dave proves that he’s earned that moniker; with a furious scream, O’Connor shoves the vertically-oriented Albright off of him. Jace yelps as he comes out of his backflip, only to land stomach-first across the top rope and bounce right back up; he tries to grab the top rope to protect himself, only to flip right over the ropes like the handlebars of a bike when the brakes have been hit too suddenly! Jace lands spine-first on the apron with a thunderous CRASH, before landing on his knees on the floor and falling down onto his stomach, motionless. Alissa O’Connor can be heard laughing hysterically; Dave himself musters up a satisfied little smirk as he turns around to face Albion, who’s still down on her back. Perhaps he should be thanking the whelp on the outside… nah.

Matt Steel:
"Bye-bye for now, Jace. Learn to mind your business.”

Mark Sanction:
“Oh, will you give it a rest? It's a Triple Threat match!”

Matt Steel:
"Try telling that to Dave O'Connor.”

It’s time for Dave to put Gale away. He could pin her now, but then these idiots would give all the credit to Jace Albright for hitting that spine-shattering move from the top rope. No, he’s going to do it, and he’s going to do it in the most barbaric way he knows. Alissa knows, too, as she shouts into the ring for Dave to “Give her a god damn Southie Beating, Dave! You got this!” And he does; grabbing one of Albion’s wrists, Dave drags her from corner-to-center, then steps around to position himself in front of her. Maintaining wrist control, Dave reaches down for the other wrist, only for Albion to show signs of life, swatting at Dave’s gloved hand! The first stomp comes with only one arm hooked, as Dave slams the sole of his boot across Albion’s cheek, halting her attempts at resistance for the moment. Take two. This time, he’s able to grab the other wrist of Gale. With both arms in his grasp, and the Champion’s head unprotected, “The Maniac” begins to administer that previously aforementioned beating, delivering vicious, disgusting stomps to the face of Albion Gale! The crowd boos furiously as Dave outright abuses Albion when he could have very-well pinned her, until something utterly unexpected begins taking place. Albion begins to sit up. In pure spite of Dave’s repeated kicks and stomps to the face, Albion begins to sit up, cursing at Dave and screaming at him: ”IS THAT ALL YOU’VE GOT?!” The crowd comes alive, with a chorus of “LET’S GO ALBY”, and the Supreme Champion rises up even further, getting onto her knees, continuing to stare defiantly into the eyes of the man who’s made the past several months of her career a living hell.

Mark Sanction:
“ALBION GALE IS UTTERLY DEFIANT!”

Matt Steel:
"Holy shit!”

Dave’s seen everything at this point; nothing else that can happen in this match is going to shock him. He’s had enough of Albion Gale. Instead of freaking out, like her, and all of these chanting, chavvy morons are expecting, Dave takes a different route. One that shuts down that chant as promptly as it started, as, with control of Albion’s wrists, O’Connor throws a savage knee strike straight into the head of the “Duality of Woman”, and watches as she drops to the canvas in a heap. Done. Finished. Over. Dave goes for the cover, ignoring the absolutely relentless booing from the crowd at the Ethiad and taking that penultimate step towards Supremacy.

Mark Sanction:
“KAMIGOYE! That might be the end of Albion's night!”

Matt Steel:
"I was terrified for a moment there! I've never seen anything like that!”

Mark Sanction:
“Albion doesn't go down without a hell of a fight, Matt!”

XWA’s senior official ins in position to count, but just like half-a-dozen times before, Dave doesn’t have his eye on the third man, as instead, he's hyper-focused on ending the reign of the woman he’s been hounding for half a year. On taking every title and every moment of accomplishment away from her. On being better than Albion Gale. By the time Alissa sees it, it’s too late; she screams her husband’s name, but that isn’t enough to alert him. “One! Two…” And BAM! The pin is broken up as Jace launches himself back into the ring with his signature Tight Rope Elbow drop, purely to spite O’Connor! ”YEAH! DOESN’T FEEL SO FUCKIN’ GOOD, DOES IT DAVEY?” Jace lauds. O’Connor sees red. In an instant he’s on his feet, walloping Albright with punches in a blind rage, but Jace is ready; he weathers the first few blows, putting his hands up to protect his head as best he can, until Dave makes a mistake. And in his anger, Dave makes a mistake. The “One to Watch” catches one of those oncoming fists, and in an act of pure audacity, takes O’Connor to the mat with a Fujiwara Armbar, before tucking the arm in between his legs, clasping his hands together, and securing them right under the Bostonian’s nose, cranking back on his head with a LeBell Lock! Also known as…

Mark Sanction:
“The Silencer! Oh my God! Jace has Dave O'Connor in the Silencer!”

Matt Steel:
"How many fuckin' hornets nests can this guy stir up in one night?!”

Jace has the Silencer applied to Dave O’Connor, right in the center of the ring! The finishing hold of the former Supreme Champion, and the man who claimed Jace Albright wasn’t worth his time… Danny Diamond. But is another man’s finishing hold going to be enough to put away Dave O’Connor? Is Jace practiced enough and proficient enough to keep the hold locked in? The Manchester crowd certainly seem to think so, cheering and chorusing the words “MAKE HIM TAP!” Jace has certainly got the best position he could ask for, dead center of the ring, with the arm of “The Maniac” pinned underneath his full-body weight in a hammerlock. Dave lets out a scream that’s equal parts frustration and pain as Jace cranks back on his neck and head, pulling up on the bridge of his nose with his gloved hands. Dave begins trying to claw across the ring with one hand, but that one hand isn’t enough… he gets only a few feet before running out of strength in that arm. Dave’s eyes begin to frantically scan around the ring for anyone or anything that can help… The steel chain? It’s across the ring. Alissa? No… instead, he sees Albion Gale, who’s just made it to all fours, staring right at him. There’s something in her eyes. Is it satisfaction? She certainly seems content watching him struggle and suffer in the grasp of Albright… but there’s something else there. And “The Maniac” knows exactly what it is. O’Connor begins to relax, knowing what’s coming, in spite of the excruciating pain. This isn’t just a title defense for Gale, and she isn’t going to let Albright take her revenge away from her. There’s a disturbing smile on the face of O’Connor as the “Duality of Woman” rises to her feet… and promptly blasts the “Dark Horse of XWA” directly in the face with a low-angle Blazing Kick, breaking the hold! There’s a collective gasp of unified shock as Jace collapses onto his back, and Dave lays his head down on the mat in satisfaction, knowing he’s that far in Albion’s head.

Mark Sanction:
“Will somebody tell these people this is a god damn elimination match?!”

Matt Steel:
"I think it’s too personal to Albion and Dave for either of them to care, at this point. One of them has to be the one to end the other. And you know where I stand on that.”

With both of her opponents down, and immobile, Albion knows what she needs to do, and she plans on doing it as quickly as humanly possible. Maybe even quicker. Quickly grabbing Dave by the wrist, Gale ignores the tempting thought of returning the favour for Dave’s “Southie Beating” and proceeds forward with her plan, dragging the Bostonian into position, adjacent to a corner of the ring. The crowd begins to cheer in knowing anticipation. And as she lays Dave down to rest, that anticipation only grows hotter as she follows up by dragging Jace in the same direction, laying the “One to Watch” on top of O’Connor’s motionless body! She casts a quick glance to the outside, and sees that Seiji and Ethan alike are now brawling with Alissa, unaware of the situation unfolding in the ring. This is it. This is the moment. There’s never been a better moment for Gale to embrace the storm, and cast herself into it. The Supreme Champion hastily makes her way out to the apron, and begins her ascent to the top rope! The forecast predicts Purple Rain is about to fall inside Ethiad Stadium!

Matt Steel:
"Shit. SHIT. SHIT!”

Mark Sanction:
“Albion Gale is gonna look for Purple Rain!”

Matt Steel:
"DAVE GET THE FUCK OUT OF THE WAY!”

Mark Sanction:
“He's pinned under Jace!”

Gale reaches the top rope, and stands up tall. There’s a flicker of hesitation; Albion’s knee threatens to buckle, but Gale gives it a quick slap then squats down, clenching all of the muscles in her lower body. The Champion leaps, and with absolute grace, catapults herself forwards into a backflip; descending on both Jace and Dave with a Shooting Star Press! Albion soars and falls… only to crash into the bent knees of Jace Albright, stomach-first! Jace and Dave are still crushed under the weight of the Champion- particularly Dave- but Albion is forced to throw herself forward, heaving and gasping for breath after feeling the sting of Jace’s pointed knees for a second time! Once more, all three competitors are down as Jace rolls down from the prone body of Dave O’Connor, but the quiet period doesn’t last long.

Mark Sanction:
“OH GOD! Jace got the knees up!”

Somehow, out of everybody involved, it’s “The Maniac” who finds his footing first. It’s wobbly, and every nerve in his body is screaming at him to stop by now, but the burning hatred for Albion Gale won’t let him! Albion is up next; Dave throws himself to the ropes, and as he comes back, leaves his feet to deliver a Flying Knee that catches Albion Gale square in the jaw, but, succumbing to exhaustion, Dave crashes to the mat back-first, and once again, all three participants are down! As much contempt as there is throughout this building for Dave O’Connor, nobody can deny how much of an absolute war this main event is and has been, and three words begin to shake the foundation of the Ethiad Stadium, from the floor to the rafters: “THIS IS AWESOME!”

Matt Steel:
"FLYING KNEE! PIN HER!”

Mark Sanction:
“Everybody's down!”

As the words echo throughout the arena, passing through- quite possibly straight through- the ears of the three combatants strewn across the canvas, all they can do is wait, as the referee has no authority to administer a ten counter under the rules of a triple threat. It’s a solid thirty seconds before anybody begins to stir- ample time for replays- and when it finally happens, it’s not one… not two… but all three XWA superstars who begin to make the slow, agonizing climb to their feet. Albion Gale and Dave O’Connor begin rising to all fours on pure grit and determination alone. Jace Albright, for all his heart, has to resort to the assistance of the ropes, but as it turns out, that’s to his benefit. Reaching his feet first, “Starlight” stares down the proverbial barrel at his two kneeling opponents, trying to decide who to fire on first. It doesn’t take long for him to make that decision. With a wail of sound and fury, Jace dashes across the ring toward Dave O’Connor, stepping up off the knee of “The Maniac” and delivering a knee to the head to drop him with a Shining Wizard- or to be more exact (at least in the eyes of the XWA fans), a Shining Dragon, to a massive roar of approval from the Manchester Crowd! Dave falls flat on his back as Albright pushes himself back to his feet, then once again, aims down the barrel at the Supreme Champion, still on her knees, and calls back to Danny Diamond yet again, as he swings his leg out and delivers a Super Kick straight into the throat of Albion Gale, dropping her with a variation of Danny Diamond’s “Sudden Death”! With both of them down, Jace practically dives on top of O’Connor, hooking his leg in a lateral press! Jack Tickles slides into frame to count! “One! Two! Thr-” No! Dave kicks out! Jace dives from target to target, going for the pin on Albion instead! “One! Two! Three-” Kickout!

Matt Steel:
"Holy fuck I thought that was it!”

Mark Sanction:
“Jace is shouting out everybody tonight! Emery Layton! Smith Jones! Danny Diamond! And now, Kaida Kagome!”

Matt Steel:
"Something tells me he's not 'shouting out' Danny Diamond, Sanction.”

Jace Albright is in shock at his inability to put away either of his opponents. What more does he have to do? What more can he do? The “Dark Horse of XWA” looks as if he’s about ready to burst into tears- ready to admit that his detractors are right- but it’s just then that something happens in the arena to bring Albright right back around. A chorus, from the capacity Manchester crowd. A familiar, inspiring chorus. “LET’S GO STARLIGHT *clap* *clap* *clap-clap-clap*”

Mark Sanction:
“Regardless, he very nearly put away both Dave O'Connor AND Albion Gale just now! The 55,000 strong in Manchester are behind Jace Albright, and I think they're starting to believe! I think HE'S starting to believe!”

Clenching his fists and teeth alike, the bloody, exhausted, and determined Albright begins to rise to his feet, shaking with newly found, but traditionally sourced adrenaline. Seeing Dave rising into a seated position next to Albion, he knows exactly what he wants to do. What he needs to do. He may very well not be able to pin Albion Gale again. But Dave can. Jace swings his foot into the small of O’Connor’s back, connecting with a punt-style kick that elicits both a loud CRACK, and a gasp from the capacity Manchester crowd. There’s no football chant this time; just pure anticipation, as Jace hooks the arms of Dave O’Connor and begins pulling him up to his feet. The crack of steel-on-flesh from outside of the ring echoes through the arena as both Ethan Cross and Seiji Shimuza are laid out with chair shots, but they go ignored, both by the crowd, and be Albright himself. With a quick side-step to get into his desired position, Jace twists his body, turning “The Maniac” over, suspending him in position for his finishing Unprettier! “Starlight” lets out a furious yell as he drops down, driving his opponent’s face into the canvas, and his opponent’s body directly into the chest of Albion Gale! With “The Shining” delivered, the official quickly realizes that Dave technically has Albion in a body-on-body cover; and Albright throws his full body weight on top of Dave’s! Jack Tickles drops to count the fall as Albion Gale is pinned under a combined total of four hundred-and-one pounds! “One! Two! Three!” Albion gets the shoulder up, but it’s a second too late as she succumbs to combination of Dave O’Connor’s dead weight and Jace’s downward force!

Mark Sanction:
“Oh my god! OH MY GOD!”

Matt Steel:
"Holy shit!”

Hana Ramierez:
“Albion Gale has been eliminated!”

Mark Sanction:
“Albion Gale has been eliminated first!”

Matt Steel:
"Do you know what this means, Sanction?!”

Mark Sanction:
“No matter what happens, we're going to crown a new Supreme Champion now!”

As Albright rolls off of both of his opponents, he’s overcome with the urge to celebrate, but he knows he can’t afford to waste any time with Dave O’Connor. He needs to pin him and he needs to do it now. As the official turns to check on Albion, trying to explain to her what’s happened, Alissa slides into the ring, unbeknownst to Jace Albright, who spreads his arms wide, just as he did earlier, signaling for The Shining all over again! Unaware he’s made himself a bigger target in the process. Jack helps Albion out of the ring just as “The Red-Haired Goddess” strikes, charging at the man responsible for eliminating Gale and leveling him with a one-footed Dropkick to the back of the head! Boos rain down onto the ring as Alissa rises to her feet, cackling and smiling malevolently. Holding her arms out at both of her sides, she admires her handiwork, and then watches as a stunned Albright rises to all fours. With a wicked grin, “The Wife of a Madman” takes off into the ropes; she doesn’t see Jace scoop up that steel chain from earlier, and very promptly wrap it around his arm; as Alissa comes back off of the ropes, she steps off of the back of Jace, propelling herself upwards as she looks to bring her heel down on the base of his skull with a night-ending Curb Stomp… only for Jace to stand up as Alissa is in mid-fall, and launch his crooked arm upward, driving the chain-wrapped appendage into the lower jaw of Alissa O’Connor with a European Uppercut! The crowd explodes into a frenzy as the mouthpiece of the O’Connors is finally silenced, and, as Alissa crashes to the mat, promptly rolling to the outside, the Manchester crowd, for a third time this evening, pipes up, a chorus of voices flooding the stadium from arena to halls: “HOLY SHIT!”

Matt Steel:
"What the fuck?!”

Mark Sanction:
“And Jace Albright finally gets payback on Alissa O'Connor, for all the times she's saved her man in this match!”

Matt Steel:
"Oh, bullshit, Sanction! Bullshit!”

But, now... there’s an O’Connor standing. And he’s pissed. As Jace turns around, with the chain-wrapped arm raised high, the exact thing that Jace Albright doesn’t want is coming straight at him, from across the ring, and he takes it right on the chin as Dave soars through the air to lay him out with a Flying Knee! Jace drops like he’s been shot, and “The Maniac” promptly tackles him to the floor, hooking Jace’s leg for a lateral press! This is it! Jack Tickles dives back into the ring to count the pin, legs hanging over the edge of the apron: “One! Two! Three-” No! Jace Albright kicks out, and Dave O’Connor is in bug-eyed shock! The crowd can’t believe it, and they cheer wildly, caught up in the excitement of this action-packed championship bout!

Matt Steel:
"WHAT?!”

Mark Sanction:
“Jace Albright somehow kicks out of the flying knee from Dave O'Connor! Good God!”

Shaking with pain, fury, and disbelief, Dave turns his wide eyes to Jack Tickles, who holds up a two count. “THAT WAS THREE,” Dave roars! Still, the referee holds up two. “THAT WAS FUCKING THREE!” O’Connor is incensed as he turns around and begins hammering away at the bloody visage of Jace Albright! “YOU STOLE THIS FROM ME, AND NOW I’M GONNA END YOUR FUCKING LIFE!”

Matt Steel:
"Close your eyes Mark, otherwise I think you may witness an actual murder!”

Mark Sanction:
“Dave O'Connor is inconsolable!”

Just then, Ethan Cross slides into the ring, intent on stopping the beating and saving his protege, but it may well be the worst decision of his life. As O’Connor sees the aviator-clad cornerman out of his peripheral vision, he explodes to his feet in a ball of seething fury and immediately takes out “The Cutting Edge” with a Roundhouse kick that sends Ethan’s glasses flying into the first row! Cross drops in a lifeless heap, but Dave isn’t finished with him yet; Inconsolable, “The Maniac” stomps toward Ethan and picks up his lifeless form, deadlifting him with a crushing Bearhug, and dragging him across the ring before backing into the ropes. Tightening that waistlock, Dave squats down to tighten the muscles in his lower body, before throwing Ethan overhead, clearing the top rope with a Belly-to-Belly Suplex! Ethan somersaults in mid-air, crashing face-first on the ring floor with a sickening SPLAT, earning another blatantly ignored chorus of boos, which quickly morph into a chant it’s a wonder hasn't happened sooner: “MASSHOLE! MASSHOLE!”

Mark Sanction:
“OH GOD!”

Matt Steel:
"Something tells me we won't be seeing Ethan Cross again for the rest of this match, after that. I think Dave just broke his everything.”

Dave begins to stalk Albright, who’s on his knees, favouring the wound on his forehead, re-opened by Dave O’Connor’s flying knee. Just as Dave is about to grab hold of Jace to put the hurt on him, Albright explodes back to his feet and cracks O’Connor with a deafening Knife Edged Chop that leaves a bright red streak of Albright’s own blood smeared across his chest! Dave’s entire upper body twitches as he doubles over, clutching at his pectoral in both pain and shock. Desperately, Jace tries to follow up with a boot to the gut, but O’Connor manages to catch the kick. Just as desperately, Jace leaves his feet, throwing out an Enzuigiri, but “The Maniac” isn’t going to get caught with that twice; he ducks his head and lets “Starlight” crash into the canvas face-first. Albright tries to escape with a dive, but O’Connor, still with a firm hold on Jace’s ankle, yanks the New Yorker back toward the center of the ring, dropping him on the canvas.

Matt Steel:
"There's no getting away from this, Jace. May God have mercy on your soul.”

Mark Sanction:
“Dave O'Connor isn't letting Jace Albright get away from him again, not after that near fall... and Jace is bleeding again!”

Grabbing the 2019 “One to Watch” by his now-matted curls, Dave rips his opponent from the canvas, wrenches his arm, and promptly launches him into the corner with an Irish Whip, but, out of instinct, Jace throws his body into a somersault, rolling right over the corner turnbuckle to drop down onto the apron feet-first! Bewildered, Jace grabs a hold of the top rope to keep his balance as Dave follows in hot pursuit. Jace Albright is on the defensive, but there’s no defense like a good offense; he frantically ducks an incoming Haymaker from the Bostonian and quickly propels his upper body through the middle rope, burying his shoulder into Dave’s abused abdomen! The shoulder thrust doubles O’Connor over; running on fumes- jet fumes, but still fumes- “Starlight” grasps the top rope and vaults straight up, twisting in mid-air to re-enter the ring with a barrel roll down the back of his opponent! Landing on his feet, Jace quickly hooks the Dave’s arms in search of The Shining, only to have his knee mule-kicked out from under him by an equally desperate Dave O’Connor. Jace stumbles forward, landing on one knee as “The Maniac” scurries just out of his grasp. Dave’s got Supremacy in his sights, and Albright in perfect position for one more Flying Knee. That’s all he needs. One more knee.

Mark Sanction:
“Jace nearly caught him with the Shining, but Dave O'Connor figured out a way out! Now he's looking for one more Flying Knee to end it, and bring the gold back to South Boston!”

Matt Steel:
"There's gonna be a hell of a party at the Garden tonight!”

Taking off into the adjacent ropes, Dave comes back, a whirlwind of fury and testosterone, launching himself at the temple of Albright like a dagger; Jace turns ninety degrees, just in time to see Dave flying at him… and from seemingly nowhere, bends his entire body backwards into a bridge, catching himself with his hands as he avoids “The Maniac’s” flying knee with a Matrix Bridge! In a single, fluid motion, Jace turns himself around to be on hands and knees as O’Connor lands on both feet, catching himself with the ring ropes. Teeth gritted and fists clenched, Dave whirls around and comes at Albright a second time going straight for another Flying Knee, but Jace steps to the side as his opponent sails past him, mere inches from a knockout blow! Running on pure instinct, Jace grabs and hooks the arms of Dave O’Connor, and as quickly as he possibly can, snaps to the side, twisting “The Maniac” into position… only to keep twisting… leave his feet… and keep twisting! BAM! Jace twists Dave O’Connor into the mat like a screw with a never-before-seen Spinning Unprettier! Dave’s face makes contact with the canvas and the Maniac ceases moving. Jace’s eyes are wide and his dreams are within reach as he uses his head to roll his opponent’s sagging, dead weight over, flipping Dave onto his back, and burying his body weight against the chest of Dave O’Connor with every ounce of energy he has left! Jack Tickles is there, and ready to make the count!

“One!”

Mark Sanction:
“OH MY GOD! Jace, hook the leg!”

As if listening to Mark Sanction, Jace hurriedly reaches for and hooks Dave’s leg to tighten up the lateral press!

“Two!”

Matt Steel:
"Oh no! Oh fuck!”

Jace shuts his eyes tight and silently prays, clenching every muscle in his body as hard as he possibly can. What comes next causes the crowd to absolutely explode in disbelief...

“Three!”

… and celebration!

Mark Sanction:
“Oh my God, Jace Albright has done it! Jace Albright is the XWA Supreme Champion! With a Spinning Unprettier to Dave O'Connor!”

Matt Steel:
"God damnit, but what a war!”

Jace’s eyes shoot open, wide, as Jack Tickles counts three! His mouth falls open in slack-jawed awe as Gunship’s “Fly For Your Life” begins to play over the P.A. system. He’s done it. He’s actually done it. After a year of fighting just to get in the title picture… a year of being overlooked time and time again… a year of validating wins over his contemporaries, and equally crushing defeats over foreign competitors… a year of being mocked and belittled by wrestling legends for having the audacity to call them out… a year of having to tell himself every day that he just has to keep trying. A year’s worth of self-imposed pressure, in this exact moment, bursts above his head like an overfilled balloon, and the weight of the world falls from Jace Albright’s shoulders. Jace closes his eyes again as the referee crouches down beside him, letting tears of pain and relief stream down his cheeks, washing away the old, dried blood. This is it. The top of the mountain. We cut briefly to ringside where Alissa O’Connor is still laid out, and Ethan Cross is being helped to his feet by medical staff.

Hana Ramierez:
“Ladies and gentlemen! Your winner… and NEEEEEEWWWWW X W A SUPREME CHAMPION… SHINING! JACE! ALBRIIIIIIIGHT!”

In that moment, the injured Ethan breaks away from the doctors and rushes into the ring, sliding underneath the bottom rope, just as the referee manages to get Jace Albright on his feet, raising his hand high above the ring. Still visibly sobbing, Jace lets out a wounded, but victorious shout. The second the referee drops his arm, Jace moves to help Ethan to his feet, and immediately pulls his friend and trainer into a hug, mirroring the scene from last year’s Legends show. How things have changed. Jack Tickles heads across the ring- we see Alissa O’Connor finally climb to her feet using the apron for assistance- only to be blocked from getting into the ring by the official, but that’s not why he’s there. Reaching out, Jack accepts something from the timekeeper. It’s the Supreme Championship belt. Stepping aside, he allows Alissa to enter the ring to check on Dave, before walking across the ring to offer the hard-earned belt to the new champion. As Jace steps back from his hug with Ethan, he sees Jack Tickles offering him the belt. Jace still looks like he can’t believe any of this is happening. He reaches out to take the belt, and stares at it in his hands for a long time.

Mark Sanction:
“So much emotion on the face of Jace Albright right now... it's not hard to imagine what he's feeling, because you can see it, right there. From opening this show, last year, with that man, Ethan Cross... to main eventing Legends only a year later, with a win that I don't think anybody expected-”

Matt Steel:
"One person knew, Sanction. It wasn't either of us, it wasn't Dave O'Connor, and it wasn't Albion Gale. It was Jace Albright. He came back to XWA like a house of fire after getting knocked out of the Lord of the Ring tournament in the first round. I didn't expect the world out of him- not yet- and certainly not tonight, but here he is. Jace Albright is the XWA Supreme Champion because he believed, and even I don't have it my heart to hate the man for that.”

It was a long, hard climb to get to the top of the mountain. It might be even harder staying here. No, it would be harder staying here. But if he’d made it this far, anything was possible. With a final nod, Jace throws both of his arms up high, holding the Supreme Championship up for all to see, right in front of the hard-cam. There’s blood and tears running down his face, but there’s also look of fulfillment. He lowers the belt. After the war he’s just been through, it’s too much weight. Ethan says something to Jace, prompting him to look up. ”Try it on.” Jace nods, then hands the belt to Jack, who begins to fasten it around his waist. The crowd begins to chorus something, or maybe they’ve already been chanting it. He’s not sure. But he can hear it now. “YOU DESERVE IT!”

Jace Albright. XWA Supreme Champion.

With the Championship belt secured around his waist, Jace makes his way over to the corner of the ring, and throws both of his fists up high, looking skyward, earning a loud hook of cheers. He soon hops down and makes his way to the ropes, which Ethan holds open for him. He casts one last look back at the O’Connors, and merely nods at Alissa. Grateful for the lack of a post-match assault. As much disdain as he has for their tactics, there’s now an equal quantity of begrudging respect. At least from his end. Jace climbs out of the ring, and begins the long walk up the entrance ramp. As he begins to come down from the adrenaline, one thing becomes crystal clear: everything hurts.

Mark Sanction:
“We just witnessed an absolute war, ladies and gentlemen. We knew it was going to be intense, and we knew it was going to be a match to remember... but I don't think any of us knew going in quite how much of a bloody war it was going to be.”

Matt Steel:
"We certainly didn't, Sanction, and I can't think of a better match to cap of 2019 than that one. What an absolutely incredible performance from everyone involved.”

Mark Sanction:
“We'd like to thank you for inviting us into your homes, ladies and gentlemen... that was XWA Legends, 2019, and to all... wait a moment, is that Seiji Shimuzu?”

Just as Jace and Ethan reach the top of the ramp, the new Supreme Champion and his cornerman are joined by somebody coming out from behind the curtain. Jace grimaces, then manages as a smile as Seiji returns to the stage, though, no sign of Albion Gale. Jace's smile momentarily turns to a look of confusion as Seiji comes out to congratulate him; he's about to ask where Albion is when it dawns on him that she's probably not ready to see anyone yet, much less the person wearing the championship she worked her ass off to win and retain. Silently, he understands. This moment he's experiencing right now was Albion's moment not that long ago. Losing that has to be painful, just as it will inevitably be in his own future. Thanking Seiji, Jace shakes hands with the former champion's cornerman, then whispers something in Seiji's ear. Seiji nods. Turning back towards the crowd, Jace walks to the center of the stage, and begins to unfasten his belt. Dropping to a single knee, Jace lays the title face up on the entrance ramp, and stares at it with his head down for several seconds. With a deep breath, Jace erupts back to his feet, raising the championship high above his head as pyro goes off all around the stage, and the fans roar with appreciation. A joyful scene to close the show as the XWA logo appears in the corner of the screen, for those watching at home, and the scene fades to black.

Re: XWA Legends XX MAIN EVENT: Gale vs. Albright vs. O'Connor - SUPREME XWA CHAMPIONSHIP! 3-WAY ELIMINATION MATCH!

DING DING DING

The very instant that the bell rings, Gale and Dave charge at each other. Jace looks like he is going to get involved, but on the other hand, Dave and Gale are punching each other furiously with one hand while holding the other close with the other hand behind their opponent’s neck, so he just lets them work out their issues for a bit. Dave, having four inches and more than fifty pounds on Gale, was always going to be the one to win this exchange, and soon Gale’s grip on him falters and she’s reeling back toward the ropes. Dave charges at her, trying to spear her through the middle ropes, but she’s not that far gone yet and dives out of the way. Dave catches himself on the middle rope but gets a punt kick to the chest for his trouble, and he stands up, waving his arms to keep from falling back. Gale goes for a spinning wheel kick, but Dave catches her! He then heaves her over his head, slamming her with a single leg suplex! The crowd boos with a bit of cringe added in, seeing as he was holding her higher than you normally do with that throw, so she landed hard on her back, possibly clipping the back of her head on the mat as well. Dave moves to mount Gale and start pummeling her, but as he moves in, Jace comes flying off the turnbuckle he springboarded up to, leaping over Dave and pulling him down with a Blockbuster! The crowd pops as the big guns are getting pulled out early, but Dave rolls out of the ring before he can be pinned. Alissa is quick to rush to her husband's side, which puts Jace off pursuing him at first. Gale feels no such compunction and rushes the opposite ropes for momentum, then comes bounding over the top rope and crashes directly into both Alissa and Dave! Jace furrows his brow, as though not sure how he likes getting Alissa involved, but Gale and Dave are both in a pile, so even as Seiji comes over to check on Gale, Jace rushes the ropes and launches himself over the top one, twisting slightly in midair as he crashes down onto Gale and Dave in a huge crossbody! The crowd is cheering loudly and stomping the ground, making all sorts of noise for the match that is already off to an explosive start. Jace rolls back into the ring and does some grandstanding for the audience's benefit, soaking up more cheers and support as Seiji and Alissa both try to extract their respective wrestler from the heap they fell in. It doesn't take too long for them to do so, even with Alissa trying to take errant swipes at Seiji, clearly still remembering how he treated her at Gold Rush months ago.

Sanction: I would say they’re pulling out all the stops, but we’ve only just begun, so I think there aren’t any to take.

Steel: Both Jace and Albion know they will have to do everything they can to keep Dave down. They may be inferior, but they’re not totally hopeless.

Gale and Dave start trading blows immediately once they realize where they are, but Dave takes Gale by the golden locks and slams her face into the apron. He takes this chance to listen to his wife's (and Seiji's, to Gale) insistences that they get back in the ring, as they can't win the match outside of it. Jace rushes forward, but rather than hit Gale, he hits a low running dropkick to knock Dave back from the ring just as he's trying to slide into it. This gives Gale the chance to start getting up, and when she reaches her feet, she sees Jace standing across the ring from her. She sets herself, clearly remembering On a Pole, and starts a quick circle around the ring as Jace circles with her. They don't go for long, each conscious of the threat on the outside, and after they finish, they come forward as though to lock-up. Jace ducks under Gale's arms, though, and grabs one from behind. He is clearly going for Out of the Black Sea, the move that got him the surprise pinfall that led to victory in the ten-minute Ironman, and Gale knows this as well, because the instant Jace's boots leave the mat, she throws herself roughly to the mat, pulling Jace down in a heap with her in something resembling a sloppy, high-angled side slam. She rolls away slightly, favoring her arm which was very much not braced or properly holding Jace as she went down. This is clearly a mistake, as Dave slides back into the ring now and starts stalking Gale, eyes wide as he thinks about tearing her arm off with a Kimura or some other similarly gruesome fate. But Gale sees, or at least feels him coming, and the instant he drops down to lock her in an armlock, she springs up. Dave still has a grip on one of her wrists, but she twists and swings her hips, doing a sort of arm drag to Dave to get him off of her. Dave rolls through it and gets to his feet, but by then, Gale is back on her feet as well, shaking that arm out. Dave charges with a an elbow out in front of him, clearly intending to knock Gale's head off her shoulders if it will go. Gale ducks the attempt and charges the ropes, springboarding off of them and twisting in midair to hit a turning Dave with a springboard clothesline. She goes to follow up, but Jace swoops in with a full head of steam, timing his high angle drop kick well and knocking Gale down as well!

Sanction: Albright nailing the John Woo Dropkick to close out a strong exchange, and he once again has the high ground!

Steel: I’m glad he’s getting his moment to Shine, but he should realize that this is going to go badly for him very quickly.

Gale has an arm draped in the ropes as she tries to pull herself up, but that doesn't protect her in a triple threat match. Still, Jace moves to Dave as he's getting up. Dave has his back to Jace as he pushes to his feet, but Jace uses that positioning to leap up, latching his legs around one arm and his arm through the other to pull Dave down into a Crucifix pin! Tickles rushes in to count the match's first pin attempt.

1...

Dave quickly kicks out, shoving Jace off roughly. He rolls up to his feet, anger clear on his face, and while Jace is no stranger to emotion and knows what Dave is capable of, this is the first time that hateful gaze has fallen on him directly. He backs off a step as Dave closes in, but when Dave reaches out to decapitate Jace with a spinning backfist, Jace ducks under it, grabbing Dave from behind and using his momentum to help heave him over in a big German suplex! The crowd pops again as Jace pulls out another move he doesn't use often, then they cheer harder when Jace bridges, then rolls over to fold Dave up in a rolling prawn hold!

1...

2...

Dave kicks out just after two, kicking out hard enough to send Jace sailing into the air, hitting the middle rope on his way down to the canvas. Jace wraps an arm around the rope by instinct, so he’s already part of the way to his feet even before he lands. It’s still not enough to avoid Dave’s wrath, and the Maniac rushes over, grabs Jace from behind with a waistlock, and launches him in a big release German suplex! Dave roars, both at Jace and at the crowd, but then he yelps as Gale surprises him, wrapping her arms around him and with visible effort on her face, yanks Dave over her head in a German suplex as well! She does not bridge, but she is quick to scramble over to cover her hated foe.

1...

2...

Dave kicks out at two again, but a little less emphatically this time.

Sanction: I guess German suplexes are in vogue right now. Everyone has gotten theirs in, with Dave feeling the brunt of them for once.

Steel: I like how our Supreme Champion can’t even do a simple rolling bridge pin and is getting upstaged by the second best wrestler in this match.

Sanction: You say that, but I’d love to see you embarrass yourself trying to bridge out of a German suplex. Or at all.

Steel: I attend the Dave O’Connor school. Beat the piss out of the opponent until they can’t move anymore.

Gale furrows her brow, not surprised but still wishing that had done it. She quickly moves on, slightly lifting Dave’s head so she can wrap her legs around his neck in a Figure Four necklock, and as soon as it’s in, she starts wrenching on it as hard as she can. Alissa is quick to move as close to her husband as she can get while outside the ring. She moves to slip into the ring to break things up, but Seiji is at hand, and she thinks better of it. Instead she shouts at Dave to break out, which he is clearly wanting to do, as his face is starting to turn red. Still, after a bit of struggling to break her surprisingly strong leglock, he switches tacts and shifts his weight. Gale is able to stop him from moving for a little bit, but soon he has built up enough momentum to flip himself onto his stomach, and Gale onto hers. She reaches for the ropes to try and add some leverage, but even as she does, Dave is starting to push himself to his feet, and as she’s still trying to wrench the necklock, she is lifted up into the air as well! She hunches over as Dave gets vertical, punching at his head and trying to break free. It starts looking like she’s going to succeed, but just as Dave’s grip is loosening, Jace flies up out of nowhere, leaping over the hunched Gale, hooking his heels under her arms and flipping forward, driving Gale to the mat from Dave’s shoulders in a super sunset flip powerbomb! Jace sticks the Shinespark landing and Tickles rushes in to count.

1...

2...

Dave then kicks Jace in the side of the head with a low roundhouse, toppling the One to Watch and breaking up the pin!

Sanction: Dave has always been unhinged, but I didn’t think he was this far gone.

Steel: I don’t see that he’s that far gone at all. This is supposed to be the night he gets revenge on Albion for embarrassing him at Gold Rush. Jace is in the way.

Jace seems to be on Mark’s side as he looks up at Dave with a WTF? expression, but Dave just responds by full on soccer kicking Jace in the face, causing Jace to recoil with a yelp, clutching his jaw. Dave turns his attention to Gale, who is still on the ground recovering from the super Shinespark. As she is starting to get up to her feet, he lets out a quick straight kick to her thigh to put her off balance. She dodges most of the Oblique Kick, but that puts her on the defensive with Dave, which lets him swoop in and start blasting her with a full barrage of boxing punches from all directions. Gale tries to cover up against the hooks, jabs, crosses, and uppercuts, but more blows get through than not, and she is pushed back and back and back until she’s in the corner getting pelted. With her in the corner, Dave commences with a fresh battery, this time of left and right punches to the stomach that drill Gale back into the buckles with grunts and groans.

After about twenty full seconds of striking, Dave backs up a few steps, letting Gale teeter forward slightly. This proves to be to Gale’s accidental benefit, as Dave charges forward, trying to blast her with his flying knee, but Gale dodges by simply collapsing to the mat, leaving Dave to keep flying forward, catching himself in the turnbuckles. He starts to extract himself from the corner, but suddenly Jace is there, fire in his eyes as he springboards off the top rope and curls himself around Dave, grabbing him on the way down and planting him with a Halo DDT! Gale gets clipped by Jace’s legs on the way down, prompting her to roll out of the ring and get a pep talk from Seiji.

Jace doesn’t bother going for the cover this time, knowing Dave is going to need a lot to bring him down. He instead moves to Dave’s legs and tries to start weakening his power base, first hitting an elbow drop to the inside of the knee before lifting the leg again, and after a few seconds of struggling, flipping Dave around into a half crab! The Canadian Maple Leaf--or “Critical Hit” as he prefers to call it--is locked in and Dave is growling and snarling as he tries to break out of the hold.

Sanction: It’s a shame Jace didn’t go for a submission in the same place as Albion, because that combo damage could be just what they need to make this go to a one-on-one match between them.

Steel: If that’s even how this match is destined to go. It could as easily, or more easily, be a final showdown between self-proclaimed hero and misunderstood villain.

Sanction: ...I don’t think you’re allowed to torture a family for weeks and then claim the “misundersood” card.

Regardless, Dave starts pulling himself along toward the ropes. They are not a safe haven, but the extra leverage will help get him out of the hold. As he gets to the bottom rope, Seiji is there with a smug grin as he pulls the rope out of Dave’s reach! The crowd cheers as the red-faced Maniac swears and threatens Seiji, but the Phoenix only pulls the rope back further. But this only lasts a few seconds before Alissa comes over and low-blows Phoenix, causing raucous boos as Seiji clutches his balls, necessitating letting go of the rope. Dave immediately grabs the bottom rope, then reaches up and grabs the second rope as well. Jace has been clinging to the half crab, but he loses his leverage and stumbles forward. Alissa repeats her insistence from the beginning of the match, yelling from ringside.

Alissa: Rough them up!

She moves to where Dave is holding onto the ropes and hands him a baseball bat. The crowd howls with boos as Dave turns to face Jace threateningly. Dave feints with the bat and makes Jace duck it, hitting the ropes, but as he does, Dave pulls back and does a reverse swing, catching Jace in the ribs with a loud CRACK. More boos rain down as Dave smashes the bat across the back of Jace as he lies facedown on the mat. Jace arches his back in agony as Dave throws the now heavily splintered bat outside the ring. Alissa smirks as she hands up a steel chair, but rather than play it or smash Jace again, he unfolds it and slips Jace's leg through, up to the knee. The crowd starts booing louder and louder as Dave tests the security of his trap by pressing his foot on it, causing Jace to groan in pain, trying to pull free. Alissa cackles as Dave bends his knees to jump, but as he leaves the mat, Alissa's cackles turn to screams and the crowd's boos turn to cheers as Gale, having recovered while Dave was setting up, quickly rushed into the ring in time to spear him out of the way! Her leg clips Jace, but not the Pillman'ed leg, which he quickly extracts from the chair as Gale, overcome with rage at what Dave was about to do, just starts wailing on him with grounded punches. The crowd cheers as Dave initially turtles, just taking the assault, but Gale is not as good at striking as Dave, and soon he is able to find an opening. He blocks a punch, then twists his hips to reverse the mount. The crowd boos as Dave starts wailing away. Gale is flailing, trying and largely failing to dodge the blows. Dave hunkers down to start coming down with full on forearm shivers to the pinned Gale, but even as the cut in her forehead starts to get widened by the heavy blows, the crowd cheers again, this time for Jace who comes barreling out of the corner, timing Dave coming up for air with a brutal Penalty Kick that sends him careening backwards across the ring! As Tickles kneels down to check on Gale to see if she is still able to compete, Jace mouths “We’re even” before turning back to Dave. He doesn’t have as much anger in his eyes as Gale has had, but he DID just try to deliberately injure him. That can’t go unanswered.

Sanction: As much as Dave loves violence, I think he’ll regret lighting this fire under Jace Albright. Not that he needed any more fuel.

Steel: Maybe he did it on purpose. The harder Jace fights, the sweeter it will be when Dave puts the fucker down. What I don’t get is why Jace is bearing down on him instead of taking advantage of the clearly battered Albion.

Sanction: Well, if nothing else, Jace returned the favor of that savage kick from Dave earlier in the match? That’s what I’m going with.

Dave is getting up, but with his back turned. Jace sees an opening and starts stalking Dave until he’s fully upright. He jumps up, grabbing Dave by the chin to pull him down in a lungblower, but Alissa is the one to make the save this time, as she leaps up and grabs Dave’s arms as they extend out, and by hooking herself in the ropes, prevents Dave from falling back, and when Dave’s body doesn’t go as far as Jace was bracing for, Jace falls unceremoniously to the canvas to hold his head. Dave quickly pounces on Jace--once his wife lets him go, of course--nailing a few forearm strikes on him as well before twisting his body around, laying atop Jace but parallel instead of perpendicular, an arm wrapped around and under his neck as he tries to choke him out in a reverse guillotine choke (or a North South choke, for those who know). Alissa moves around the ring quickly, mainly to keep Gale from interfering, but even as Alissa mouths off inaudibly to Gale, even going so far as to dig her claw-like nails into the cuts on Gale’s forehead, Ethan Cross strolls casually over to where Dave’s legs are splayed out on the mat for maximum leverage. He reaches in and doesn’t yank Dave off violently, but he does drag him toward the ropes. Dave doesn’t break the hold, just keeps wrenching on it, and after several seconds of trying to break out, Jace can’t find the window and he taps out! The crowd boos, but then cheers as Ethan calls the ref over to show him Dave’s feet, which are under the bottom rope. Even as Dave lets go and Alissa celebrates his getting closer to victory, Tickles quickly crosses his arms in front of him, rushing over to say something quietly to Hana, who then announces it to the arena at large.

Ramirez: Ladies and gentlemen, I have been informed that because Dave O’Connor’s body was not fully inside the bounds of the ring at the time of Jace Albright’s submission, the fall is not valid!

Predictably, Alissa absolutely loses her shit and rushes over to Ethan, but even as she rushes over to attack the former wrestler who hasn’t seen the ring in a year, Seiji sidesteps into her path, eyes wide with the dare. She screeches and protests as Dave looks wide-eyed at Tickles. He threatens him with bodily harm, but then he crumples to the mat as Gale takes the chair that had almost ended Jace’s career and blasts Dave over the head with it! The crowd roars with approval as Gale drops the chair, rage clear on her face as she wipes freely flowing blood out of her eyes. Even as she tosses some down to the mat, a cut appears on Dave’s forehead where she hit him, leaving Jace the only one not sporting the proverbial crimson mask. She stares down at Dave for a few seconds in a way that reminds a few of her mentor’s fans of something from his past and most XWA fans of maybe other stares but possibly nothing, but then she yells at the back row of the stadium and hunkers down in the corner. She whips her head back to get her hair (and some blood) out of her face before dramatically raising one foot up and slamming it down on the canvas with a resounding thunk. Then she does it a second time. Then she leans out of the corner to shout at Dave.

Gale: Get up and face the music you son of a bitch!

She stomps the canvas several more times, but Jace is the one who gets up first. Gale tries to adjust her trajectory and launch the Blazing Kick at him, but Jace ducks out of the way, and as Gale tries to reset herself, her back is to him and he quickly grabs her arms in a double chicken wing, twisting her around for The Shining. He pauses briefly to make sure he has her securely held, and that is his undoing, as the bloodied Dave flies through the air, blasting him in the face with a flying knee! He loses his grip on Gale, but still falls on top of her, just not the controlled way he wanted. Dave rolls Jace off of Gale and pins him, pulling both his legs up and holding him as tight as he can. Tickles drops to count, eyes clearly full of fear and resignation.

3! Gale rolls toward Dave in a half-hearted, half-aware attempt to interfere, but she couldn’t recover in time. The crowd is full of boos.

Ramirez: Ladies and gentlemen, Jace Albright has been eliminated!

Sanction: Jace dodged a bullet the first time, but Dave surprised him and got him out of the way, and now it’s down to the champ and the Maniac.

Steel: Jace put up a hell of a fight, but it was never meant to be. If you got Albion one-on-one, maybe things would be different, but he is no match for the rightful Supreme Champion.

Dave smirks as he roughly kicks Jace out of the ring in a clear attempt at humiliation. Gale is trying to pull herself to her feet, glaring up at Dave through her bloody face. Dave chuckles, then leans down to lift her up roughly. He tries to grab an arm, but she quickly clasps her hands together in the “Master Lock” grip, so Dave struggles for a few seconds to break the grip. He eventually does, but in the moment her arms separate, Gale charges forward, driving Dave into the corner turnbuckles. This drives the air out of him and gives Gale the opening to drive her shoulder repeatedly into his stomach. After a few thrusts, Dave lifts a knee to catch Gale in the jaw, and as she jolts upright, Dave shoves her backwards, and when he has the appropriate distance, he charges. Gale lifts her arms, anticipating his flying knee, so when he goes for a Bicycle Kick, she is wide open and flies backward as she gets kicked square in the chest. Then Dave roars as she rolls clear out of the ring, making her unpinnable.

Sanction: Dave hit a big kick there, obviously looking for a quick double play, but whether intentional or not, Gale might have saved her title there.

Steel: She’s just putting off the inevitable, Mark. There’s no one to throw between her and annihilation.

Seiji has lifted Gale up and is trying to give her a pep talk. He has a nitrile glove on (as does Tickles, now that we’re thinking about that) as he dabs at Gale’s face, but as he does, Dave rolls out of the ring and roughly shoves him away. Seiji tries to push back, but Dave just blasts him with a backfist that sends him careening into the barricade. Gale responds by doing another shoulder block, charging Dave backfirst into the apron. He recoils briefly, but then he clubs Gale in the back, knocking her down. She starts to crawl away, trying to create separation, but Dave just puts his foot in the small of her back. She yelps, then cries out in pain when he leaps as high as he can go and brings his full weight down on her back. Seiji, who is still on the barricade but upright enough to see, shouts at Dave from across the arena.

Seiji: Aren’t there enough broken backs!?

The O’Connors turn, as one, to Seiji’s pleading face, both wearing various degrees of sinister grin. Alissa responds with no remorse in her eyes.

Alissa: I think we’re one short. Babe?

Dave nods and looks down at Gale, who is still crawling but with only one arm now as the other one is actively favoring her back, no matter how useless the motion is. Dave’s lips curl up as he stalks over to her, putting a foot on her back as Alissa digs under the ring for something appropriately lethal. She likes saps, but they are not appropriate for this job. After a second, she pulls a sledgehammer out. The crowd gasps as one as she hefts it over her shoulder. Seiji tries to charge, but she threatens him with it, so he backs off before he gets blasted. She then delivers the hammer to Dave, who takes it in his hands. It’s a little heavier than his usual kit, but no one can pretend it isn’t Xtreme. He stalks over to Gale, who is only about a foot from being able to pull herself up. As she starts to pull herself up, Dave sets up for the killing blow. Before he drops the hammer, literally, Seiji roared and charged across the floor, blowing past Alissa. Dave whirls around, hammer brandished, and swings the hammer for maximum damage. Seiji was fast enough to get inside the arc of the hammer’s head, but he gets clocked in the side of the head by the shaft of the hammer, causing an arena-wide gasp as he sprawls, careening several feet before coming to rest in the narrow walkway between the entrance ramp and the barricade.

Sanction: Oh my god! I knew they were vicious, but this is a new low!

Steel: If the Phoenix had stayed out of their business, this wouldn’t have happened. There only has to be one casualty tonight.

Sanction: I know they are doing their whole campaign to make the place more extreme, but there has to be limits!

Steel: Do there? This is a no-DQ match, Mark. The only rules are win in the ring by pin or submission. Everything else is fair game.

Mark just makes several guttural, strangled noises in his throat, having no coherent response. Gale has pulled herself up as she heard what happened. She turns slowly, and it might have been a trick of the light or a post-production effect, but for a split-second, it seemed like her eyes shone gold before returning to her normal, rage-filled blue.

Alissa: Alright, babe, now go get your gold from--

Alissa can’t finish her thought before Gale roars and charges Dave with a full head of steam, bloody-face and all, and she ducks Dave swinging for the fences to tackle him to the ground. She gets up and looks to where he dropped the hammer, seeing Alissa making moves for it. Her lips curl up in a manic grin as she beats Alissa to the punch. Alissa goes wide-eyed as Gale adjusts her grip, backing up so she doesn’t get brained. Gale does a slow turn to face the recovering Dave, raising the hammer above her head.

Then she flips it around, holding it with her hands around the heavy metal head, and slams the wooden shaft across Dave’s back with all her might, cracking the handle and making Dave cry out in pain. She throws the hammer over into the steps, several feet from anyone it could accidentally hit, and she staggers, forgetting the match for a moment as she checks on Seiji.

Seiji is moving, but he is bleeding profusely from his temple. Gale shouts as she signals for someone, anyone to come down and help him. It doesn’t take long for EMTs to follow her lead. When she’s sure Seiji will get the attention he needs, she staggers back toward Dave, but between her and him is his wife. She has wide eyes as well and is brandishing the steel chair with her husband’s skull’s indentation in it. Gale dares her to do it and Alissa steels herself for a second before winding back to swing, but Gale launches a Blazing Kick to the chair as it swings forward, knocking it back into Alissa’s face, and the crowd roars again as the Madman’s Wife takes the big hit, the chair flying out of her grip.

Sanction: How does that feel, huh?

Steel: You know it’s not a good indicator of character to take joy in other people’s pain, Mark.

Sanction: Fuck off, Matt. Alissa has been torturing people for months and now she’s had some comeuppance!

Steel: You don’t think the abuse she suffered at Seiji’s hands at Gold Rush was enough?

Sanction: It was...until she advocated for her husband to literally break another person’s back!

Dave has been stirring all the while, and when Gale puts her attention back to him, he is clawing his way up the apron and into the ring. As he slides in, Gale staggers toward the apron herself. As she pulls herself up, Dave gets to his feet and charges the ropes, trying to knock her off with a knee strike, but she dodges and lifts a leg up to kick him in the face, sending him staggering back. He has not bled as freely as she has, but there is dried blood on his face, and he feels at his forehead for it as he staggers in the middle of the ring. As he turns toward Gale, she springboards up to the top rope, then leaps over him as he rushes the ropes, trying to crotch her there. As she hits the mat, she jolts a bit, then rushes the ropes, bouncing back toward the slowly turning Dave and slipping up and around him, twisting and tilt-a-whirling around him for several rotations before finally throwing herself into the big Tilt-a-Whirl DDT! Dave’s forehead hits the mat in the spot he was lacerated, and blood starts seeping out again as he sluggishly flips over onto his back. Gale’s eyes go wide, both with lingering rage and anticipation. She moves to the turnbuckles, but rather than slip out onto the apron, she pauses, then starts climbing the turnbuckles from inside the ring. She peeks backward as she has one foot on the top rope and one on the second, seeing Dave still prone. She moves to heave herself up the last step, but Alissa rushes toward her at the last second, steel chair in hand. Gale drops to the second rope and grabs the ropes with one hand and swats at Alissa with the other. She blocks the chair swing sloppily, and while she still got jolted with the chair, it’s not enough to knock her off. Alissa screeches and swings again, but this time Gale catches the edge of the chair with the good hand. Alissa goes wide-eyed, but has no time to plead or demand before Gale kicks her in the face, knocking her off the apron. Gale drops to the mat, sees Dave stirring, and smashes him in the back with the chair. His back arches, giving her the opening to flip him back over and plop the chair on his chest. The crowd’s cheers start to build to the well-known crescendo as she climbs up the turnbuckles again, and as soon as she’s on the top rope, she wipes some blood off of her face, wipes it on her upper chest, and leaps backward, corkscrewing in midair as she lands a Phoenix Splash directly on the chair! The crescendo crests and the cheers crash down through the arena as Gale clutches her abdomen desperately with one hand and throws the chair aside with the other. She scrambles into a cover and Tickles dives into position with gusto.

3!!! More cheers as the bell rings and “Invidia” starts playing over the speakers.

Ramirez: Dave O’Connor has been eliminated! Your winner, and STILL XWA Supreme Champion....ALBION GALE!!!

Sanction: Whew. I was afraid for a lot of souls for the last few minutes there. I thought you’d be more excited for this, you finally got your bloodbath.

Steel: I did, but it didn’t end the way it should have! And she straight up assaulted Alissa, how is that fair!?

Sanction: Good question, Matt. Counter question, how has it been fair for her to interfere in matches for the better part of a year? How fair was it for the O’Connors to literally torture an entire family? How fair was it to destroy company property?

Steel: They were just doing what needed to be done to bring this company back to its roots, Mark!

Sanction: Well Albion was just doing what she had to do to fucking survive, and she did just that. I have no updates on Seiji’s condition at this time, but you can follow XWA on Twitter, and also our defending champ for any developments there.

Gale has been stood up by Jack Tickles and received her title from the timekeeper. As she has it clasped around her waist by the official, a load of fireworks erupt from the open roof of the stadium, lighting up the night with explosive congratulations. It takes about fifteen seconds for the firework barrage to end, and the final explosion coincides with four charges erupting from the turnbuckles, giving those close to the ring a light show as well. Gale staggers a bit after the fireworks are done, clearly weakened from her blood loss, but her lips are curled up in a weak smile as she leans on the top rope.

Sanction: XWA has had a rough year, overall, but a constant has been the competitive nature and perseverance of that woman right there. I know I don’t speak for Matt, but I am glad to have her lead XWA into 2020.

Matt Steel says something that is too low and rambling to be coherent, but the word Demon is audible.

Sanction: Now before Matt says something else he regrets, it’s time to sign off. Join us in the new year for our annual presentation of the Piledriver Awards!

Steel: We almost saw some actual piles driven tonight, it could have been literal!

Sanction: I don’t think you know what pile driving is, Matt.

The announcers continue to bicker as more fireworks go off and the stream fades to black on Albion kneeling, partly out of emotion, partly out of exhaustion, in the ring with her title.
