Jace Albright vs. Jasin Smith

XWA has seen its share of breakout stars this year, but few have shone as bright as Jace Albright. After winning the One to Watch Piledriver Award, the Starlight lived up to that moniker multiple times over, racking up a six-month unbeaten streak over some of the biggest names in the BattleZone and rocketing to the #1 spot on the Top Ten contendership rankings twice in a row. But one loss in the opening round of the 2019 Lord of the Ring tournament was all it took to send him sliding down the rankings again. Now, this beloved young star seeks to build his way back up and restate his case for a shot at Supremacy to the office, and to do that, he'll need to overcome the first man he ever faced in XWA, Jasin Smith.

Will Jace prove how far he's come since he started? Or will Jasin be able to score that big win he's been hunting for? Either way, these two New Yorkers will be hungry to prove themselves, and it could make for a classic confrontation...

Re: XWA Massacre: Gold Up North: Jace Albright vs. Jasin Smith

The arena goes to pitch black as the beginning of “Did My Time” by Korn plays. The guitar kicks in as the lights flash on this action continues until the drumline kicks in, once it does so, Jasin Smith emerges out from the curtain, standing there for a moment before heading towards the ring.

Hana Ramierez:
"The following contest is scheduled for one fall! First, making his way to the ring... from Brooklyn, New York, weighing in at two-hundred and twenty-five pounds… He is… JASIN!!! SMITH!!!"

Tempest:
"And here we've got a very interesting match to keep things rolling on episode 50!"

Mark Sanction:
"Indeed we do, Tempest. We haven't seen Jace Albright since he was knocked out of the Lord of the Ring Tournament by Kaelan Laughlin. And here he is, a month shy of a year after his debut, making his return against the SAME man he debuted against: That man right there, Jasin Smith."

He stops at the front of the ring, closing his eyes taking the energy of the crowd in for the time being. He walks to right side of the ring, running onto the apron, leaning on the ropes. He enters the ring barely because he soon exits to acknowledge the crowd. Entering the ring entirely, he walks to a turnbuckle of his choice, he stands tall, staring around at the crowd. He hops down but stays in that exact corner, sitting on the third turnbuckle awaiting the start of the match.

Tempest:
"Jace didn't really pick up momentum until that match at XWA Legends last year. Yeah, he beat Jasin Smith, but then he lost consecutive matches to Kryptops and Smith Jones. Jasin hasn't wrestled the version that went undefeated for seven months against the likes of Joey Miles, A.J. Morales, and the current XWA Supreme Champion, Albion Gale."

Mark Sanction:
"He might not be wrestling that Jace tonight, either, Tempest. We have no idea what kind of game plan Jace Albright has after being taken out of the tournament early. Jasin Smith took Albright to the limit in his debut. Can he do it all again, and maybe even more tonight?"

WE OWN THE SKY, YOU AND I
WE OWN THE SKY, YOU AND I
TAKE IT TONIGHT, FLY FOR YOUR LIFE
FLY FOR YOUR LIFE, FLY FOR YOUR LIFE

Following the introductory vocals of Alex Westaway and Stella Le Page, the song shifts to a slow, dark, electronic groove with a slow, yet booming beat.

Tempest:
"This is certainly a different mood!"

The camera shifts from Jasin Smith as we see Jace Albright already standing center stage, body turned toward stage right, head facing the ring. Is it Jace Albright? Gone is the glitter and glamour of attires past. The only evidence of his one-time outfit from his match with Kaelan is the pair of red and white combat shoes he wore for that match. Albright looks to be blending in with his competition significantly more now, sporting matte red trunks, black knee pads, black elbow pads, and white wrist tape. He also looks to have been hitting the gym during his time away, cutting a much more defined outline.

Mark Sanction:
"Wow, this is already a verrrry different Jace Albright. No pomp, no circumstance, no flair. All business, and he looks to be in great shape! Maybe in the best shape we've ever seen him!"

Tempest:
"I don't know about all business, what about that hair?! That ragged mane makes mine look like a crew cut by comparison!"

Mark Sanction:
-Laughs-

With a look of proud determination, Jace raises his right arm from his hip, then points at the ring with a closed fist before raising that arm high above his head. Jace holds it out for several seconds, as if waiting for a fist bump, then brings it back home to his hip with a single, powerful fist pump. A look of determination hooks into a confident smirk, as the New York City native turns and begins a determined walk toward the ring.

Hana Ramierez:
"Making his way to the ring, from New York City... weighing in at one-hundred and eighty-three pounds... "Shining" Jaaaaace Albriiiight!"

Tempest:
"I don't know what it is, but something about this theme makes me want to spell words with a space in between every letter."

Mark Sanction:
"Oh god, please don't."

Jace keeps pace with his plodding entrance music as he strides down the length of the ramp, focused solely on his opponent in the ring. As he reaches the end, "Starlight" comes to a stop at the end of the ramp, taking a long look at all 19,000 fans in attendance here at the Rogers Center. As the chorus kicks in, Jace puts on a burst of speed and slides into the ring feet-first, before rising to his feet in one, single, smooth motion, then turning on a dime to approach a nearby corner of the ring. Climbing up to the second rope, Jace raises both of his fists up high, nodding his head in time to his theme music. One fist lowers, then the other, before the New Yorker turns and hops down from the middle rope, landing on his feet. Still nodding his head to "Fly For Your Life", Jace begins to stretch out his arms as he stares across the ring at Smith while his entrance music fades out.

Mark Sanction:
"Here we go! Jace Albright, Jasin Smith! Singles action up north!"

Tempest:
"Can Jace Albright make a statement here tonight, or will Jasin Smith pick up the biggest win of his career?"

Mark Sanction:
"Those questions and more get answered right now, as Jack Tickles calls for the bell!"

------------------

The shrill din of the ring bell signifies the beginning of the match, though it doesn't resonate for long, the echo getting lost among the noises of excitement from this amped up British Columbia crowd! Immediately, both men begin circling around the ring, giving themselves a wide berth. Each watching the movements of the opponent for any subtle signs of muscle weakness or injury. It doesn't last long as Jasin, captivated by the crowd's excitement for this match (even if it is almost entirely to do with his opponent), stops in a corner of of the ring, and then hops up to the second rope, turning his back on Albrght as he holds his arms out to soak in the atmosphere!

Tempest:
"I promise you're not the Jason they're cheering for."

Mark Sanction:
"It's hard to blame the guy, Tempest. This Vancouver crowd is bringing the excitement here tonight! They're not leaving anything at the door!"

From all the way across the ring, a look of frustration surprisingly appears on the face of the returning "Starlight", who drops into a low stance, observing Smith carefully from across the ring. Normally, he's the one executing these sorts of antics, but on the night of his return, as he reaffirms his game plan, it appears that the "One to Watch" has no patience for pandering. As Smith hops down, Albright takes off at a dead run, corner to corner; Jasin whirls around just in time to see Jace leap, sailing through the air toward him feet first! CRASH! Albright's soles slam into Smith's chest with a Dropkick at Maximum Thrust! Smith crumbles to a seated position in the corner. Jace, on the other hand, manages to land on his feet, and quickly takes off running, back towards the corner he started from. As the "One to Watch" reaches the opposite side of the ring, he steps up onto the middle turnbuckle and pops up, spinning in mid-fall to hit the ground running! As Smith groggily pulls himself back to a standing base, Jace clears the ring again, and BAM! "5✡" drives his feet through Smith's chest with a second Corner Dropkick that knocks the Brookyln native down to a seated position yet again! Jace rises to his feet and lets out a roar, and the crowd roars back!

Mark Sanction:
"Maximum Thrust plus one!"

Tempest:
"God damn, I think Jasin Smith had pecs when the match started! Jace just erased them!"

Mark Sanction:
"I think he also erased any hopes Jasin Smith may have had about this following the mold of a traditional wrestling contest."

Clearly not ready for the position he finds himself in, Smith crawls to get away from his opponent, clawing his way across the ring. Before Smith can coerce any air into his lungs, the sole of a boot again makes contact, sending a wave of pain up his spine; on the opposite side of this attack is Jace Albright, who slams the flat his foot directly into Jasin's tailbone with a Front Thrust Kick, almost a low Teep Kick. Jasin lets out a pained yelp that turns into a low heave as he clutches his stomach in both hands and falls forward onto his face, as a large number of the fans in attendance visibly and audibly wince with sympathetic pain.

Tempest:
"Jesus! Jace literally just kicked his ass."

Mark Sanction:
"He delivered that front thrust kick straight into the base of the tailbone! That's got to shooting all the way up his spine!"

The lancing pain, accompanied by waves of nausea would certainly be enough to keep Smith down for a moment if it weren't for Albright yanking him back to his feet against his will. Now it's the face of Smith that the New York City boy is striking, slamming the hardened flat of his forearm right against the cheek of Smith with an uncomfortable CRACK! Jasin stumbles toward the ropes, but Jace doesn't let go. A second shot keeps Smith dazed, and a third nearly takes the Brookyln boy off his feet, but Albright grabs a hold of his opponent's arm and keeps him upright. Maintaining wrist control, "Starlight" takes his time wrenching Jasin's arm, before fixing to send Albright into the ropes with an Irish Whip! Somehow, though, Smith manages to wrest control from his opponent for a split second, and stamps his heel down, halting the momentum as he turns on a dime and uses the momentum to rocket Albright into the ropes instead! Albright never hits the ropes, though; instead, they're close enough that the #RockSolid athlete is able to leap straight onto the middle rope, twisting his body as he leaps backwards to somersault over the head of Smith, grabbing his head in a modified cravate on the way down to slam Smith's neck into the canvas with a modification of Different Frequencies! The crowd comes alive for Jace Albright! And the Corckscrew Blockbuster causes Jasin's head to snap forward, while the rest of his body comes to a painful halt, but Jace's momentum carries on as he rolls straight back onto his feet!

Mark Sanction:
"Thinking on his feet is Jace Albright, connecting with a variation of Different Frequencies on Jasin Smith!"

Tempest:
"And look at the way he rolled through right to his feet. I would guess that Jace has been working on finding ways to adapt his repertoire to different situations. But it remains to be seen whether or not he's added anything else to his arsenal."

Before Sanction can even finish his sentence, Jace has already taken off into the opposite ropes, not stopping his momentum for so much as a second. Smith clutches at his neck as Albright rebounds off of the ropes. The "One to Watch" comes back with a vengeance and slides down, dropping his leg across the throat of his opponent, then, immediately picking himself up and scrambling back into the same set of ropes to come hurdling back toward Smith, and Albright delivers a second Leg Drop! "5✡" swings his legs around and sprawls into a pinning predicament across the chest of Jasin Smith!

Tempest:
"Cover!"

"One! Tw-"

Kickout by Jasin!

Mark Sanction:
"A one count for Jace Albright, and it looks like he's making a point of targeting the neck, and maybe the back of Jasin Smith. I don't know if that's the strategy he came in with, or if he's adapting, but either way, it seems to be serving him well here in this return match."

Albright wastes no time in getting back to his feet, but an attempt to bring Smith with him is quickly thwarted by way of a Drop Toe Hold, planting Jace face-first. Simple and elegant, save for the landing. Smith shakes his head, finally managing to buy himself a few seconds of breathing time. Untangling his legs from those of "Starlight", Smith pushes himself up to his feet with a foul look on his face, like someone who's just walked into a public bathroom to discover a landmine, secure in the knowledge there's no other bathrooms for miles. Noticeably limping, Smith makes up for his injury by bending the rules around it, "helping" his opponent the rest of the way back to his feet by grabbing a handful of his opponent's waterfall of curls and yanking Albright towards him. Jace's gut makes contact with the butt of Smith's knee, doubling him over. By the time Jack Tickles is admonishing Jasin for the hair pull, Smith's moved past it, hooking the arm of Albright around his neck to deliver a crisp Snap Suplex! As the New York City native crashes onto his back, Smith sits up (bad move), then quickly rolls over, clutching at his low back as he rises up to his feet again. Hobbling at first, Jasin takes off into the nearest set of ropes, and comes back looking for an Elbow Drop. CRACK! Nobody home; the point of Smith's elbow spikes the canvas as Albright rolls out of the way! Leaning back onto his hands, Jace nips up to his feet, earning himself a nice little POP from the capacity crowd! "Come on!"

Tempest:
"There's some of that flash everybody loves him for!"

Mark Sanction:
"Just as quickly as Jasin Smith was able to turn things around, the tides have turned in favour of Jace Albright again! Momentum shifts back and forth!"

Tempest:
"And if I were Jace Albright, I would go on an all out attack. Don't let the momentum shift again, we've seen before from his previous match with Jace that Jasin can withstand a fair amount of punishment. Give him that and then some, and do it quick!"

After allowing himself the briefest of moments to take in the crowd's reaction, Jace makes his way over to the supine Smith and grabs a hold of the Brooklyn native's head, steadily hauling him up. He gets Jasin as high as a single knee before the frustrated Brookylnite hammers him in the stomach with a less-than-legal closed fist, followed by a second, then a third. A fourth and final shot glances off the jaw of Albright who somewhat succeeds in parrying the blow while simultaneously answering with another Forearm shot that rattles Albright to his core! Powering through the pain, Jace takes off into the ropes like he's been shot out of a cannon, but, surprisingly, Smith's ready. As the "One to Watch" rebounds, Smith leaves his feet, leap frogging the oncoming Albright, who carries his momentum onward into the opposite set of ropes. As he lands on his feet, Smith whirls around and sprawls to the canvas, avoiding Jace as he rebounds for the second time, forcing his opponent to hop over him. Jace keeps going, and Jasin pops back to his feet only to leave them again, leaping up high as he throws his legs out for a Shotgun Dropkick, but there's nobody home for Smith, as Jace hooks the ropes with both arms to stop himself! Smith plummets onto his own back, and previously-injured tailbone, with nothing to break his fall! CRASH! The Brookylnite cries out in pain as he lands hard, then instinctively sits up to get eyes on his opponent. Albright shocks Smith and the fans alike as he puts on a burst of speed and swings his foot recklessly through the air, absolutely pounding his opponent's chest in with a vicious Penalty Kick! CRACK! Jasin Smith drops like he's been shot as Jace stands over his opponent, back turned. Senior Official Jack Tickles is quick to check on Albright's opponent, making sure Smith is even conscious, let alone able to continue. This nets Jace a mixed reaction- some cheering, and some even laughing in shock at the brutality, while others gasp in shock. A few boo the "unnecessary" force of the kick. The mixture seems to phase him less than it has in the past.

Tempest:
"Holy shit! I know what I said a minute ago, but jesus!"

Mark Sanction:
"Penalty Kick! Jace Albright just floored Jasin Smith!"

Tempest:
"I definitely didn't expect to see that out of Jace tonight."

Jace's look of grim determination is unexpected, given the situation. While this focus has come out of him in short bursts, during moments of desperation against the likes of Gale and Morales, it seems that Albright's finally figured out how to tap into that intensity at will. A prospect that is both dangerous and exciting! Jace turns around, and, after getting the okay from the referee, falls to his knees, flattening out the crumpled arrangement of Jasin Smith's limbs to cover him with a proper Lateral Press. Hook of the leg, aaaaand...

Mark Sanction:
"Albright with the cover!"

"One! Two!"

No!Another kickout from Jasin Smith!

Tempest:
"Smith kicks out of two, and I think that was purely on instinct. Jasin looks like me waking up in the middle of my nap at three A.M. on the flight up here."

Still wearing that look of grim determination, "Starlight" takes his time peeling Smith off of the mat, working him up to a vertical base. Reaching out, Albright grasps both of the Brooklynite's wrists, and begins slowly turning in place, spinning Jasin around so that he can deliver that crushing Unprettier he calls The Shining! Just as he gets Smith in position for the move, however, Smith turns the tables on Albright, letting out an impassioned roar as he continues turning! The "One to Watch" doesn't have a chance to stop his momentum, allowing a desperate Smith to completely reverse the position on Jace, and instead, set him up for his namesake Shining!

Tempest:
"No way!"

Mark Sanction:
"Jasin Smith is gonna hit The Shining!"

It's a good thing for Jace that he sees it coming. Ripping his arms free, Albright straightens up and leaps straight up. There's a Smith on Albright's mind, but it's not Jasin Smith. The New Yorker lifts both knees up, positioning them expertly as he wraps his arms around the shoulders of his opponent, pulling him off balance. In the blink of an eye, both men are falling; there's a CRASH as Albright's back collides with the mat, and the points of both knees stab directly into Jasin Smith's heart! Pain wracks his body, and as the Brooklynite topples off of his opponent, it becomes clear exactly which 'Smith' is on Jace's mind.

Tempest:
"Whoa!"

Mark Sanction:
"Th-that's... that's Smith Jones' old finisher! The Point of Controversy!"

Point of Controversy. Pin.

"One! Two! Three!"

Tempest:
"Jace recently thanked his old rival on Twitter for giving him some advice. I'd say Jace has taken more than just Smith's advice!"

Mark Sanction:
"And Jace gets the three count with the Point of Controversy!"

The bell rings as the match comes to a close, and "Fly For Your Life" by Gunship hits the P.A. system. As Albright rises to his feet, Jack Tickles raises the winner's arm up high before moving to tend to a glassy-eyed Jasin Smith. Albright doesn't stay in the middle of the ring long, migrating to a corner as he climbs up and raises both arms high above his head, letting out an empowered shout that gets the "One to Watch" some of his fanfare back.

Mark Sanction:
"Jace Albright's back, and he just made a statement!"

Tempest:
"I think he's tired of feeling overlooked, Sanction. Few people get into this business without having some kind of a mean streak, and I think Jace Albright just tapped into his. If he keeps winning matches like that, it's gonna be a lot harder for anyone to deny Jace his shot at Supremacy."

Mark Sanction:
"Truer words may not have been spoken, Tempest. Don't go away folks, we've gotta take a quick break, but it's main event action up next! The new Television Champion Hanako Takeuchi is gonna take on the Hardcore Champion, Dave O'Connor! Winner takes all, and it's next on Massacre!"

With that exciting proclamation from Mark Sanction, the scene fades to an advertisement for XWA's upcoming SuperShow, Gold Rush!
(OOC: I know the spacing is fucked up. Not my fault. Site's ignoring whatever I put for spacing. It's been brought up to staff. I decided to space the pins and kickouts away from the rest of the action based on the suggestion of someone who voted on one of my last matches before my break, and I was going to ask for feedback on whether or not y'all think it works better or worse but the spacing being all screwed up might make that difficult to discern.)
